Quote:It is amusing. I normally block any moving avatars from within my browser because they distract me when I read, but I had to think twice with that one.I don't know why, Rylas, but....I just spent 5 minutes watching your avatar. It's hilarious!

Wow, learn something new every day! Genuinely interesting, thank you.

Quote:Oh I see, so having three of those means you're getting a pretty huge recovery increase. Thanks, I didn't understand how that worked.+End IOs in a passive have a 20% chance to fill 10% of your max Endurance roughly every 10 seconds.
So for someone with 100 EndMax, (20% chance X 10% of endurance X 100 end)/10 sec = 0.20 end/sec. Which isn't small.
This scales upwards if you have accolades, set bonuses, or powers that increase it, of course, and those can start to add up if you have one in Stamina, one in Physical Perfection and one in Superior Conditioning.
EDIT:
The cast for Darkest Night is over three seconds. By the time that's even cast, a non-Darkest Night casting TWer will have reduced a significant amount of the mobs' health, so with softcap versus S/L/E/N, 50% resistance to almost everything, a 9s recharge full heal (with some minor +endurance), and a DoT with -res, why bother with Darkest Night at all? -
Quote:I'm running a very similar TW/DA build, and the +end IOs carry it. I still don't really understand how they work, because they don't seem to impact the endurance pool, and yet they seem to create staggering amounts of endurance recovery.About the TW/DarkArmor.
I cannot judge without playing it but I have the slight feeling that this build wouldnt be solo sustainable even with T4 Ageless (mostly on the sacond half of the duration) without buff. Of course I cannot see the impatc of x3 perf shifter procs. -
Yeah. Rage really makes Burn an absolutely ludicrously powerful mess of damage. It turns it into over 600ish damage every 6 seconds. It's already very powerful though, so I see no reason why it couldn't be done with TW.
EDIT:
Quote:i was not at all saying that FA doesn't have its uses, its an "offensive" shield, but the OP said all around, meaning jack of all trades, and you don't see too many FA brutes tanking particularly well, there are exceptions to this of course, as with everything. if you took a percentage of the amount of survivable invul brutes VS the amount of survivable FA brutes, i think you know the answer. if your staying with FA, that's fine (as if you need my approval) it's your choice, i was just giving my opinion
Part of the mentality of successfully playing /Fire is 'offense is a good defense' or 'kill it before it kills me'. The huge offensive tools it offers (including a second Build Up in Fiery Embrace, a PbAoE DoT and, of course, Burn) make this a real possibility for most mobs. -
Quote:Fire isn't sub-par. I, and others, have solod the ITF (and more) with /Fire broots. What fire is, is essentially a second source of DPS. Burn is a giant heap of damage, better than almost all primary DPS powers and it's up perma on a good build. What fire isn't, is a particularly good source of mitigation. It relies very heavily upon its heal keeping it standing. That said, getting it to 32.5% defense v positions makes it fairly tough.may i ask why you went fire? it is usually sub-par to other brute secondaries.
i would look at you builds but i keep getting an error when i try.
EDIT:
Sorry OP, I realise I didn't really solve your issue much! -
Quote:Seems to be StJ at a sub 2 minute time.I thought MA was winning Pylon lately, has no AoE but quite impressive ST chain.
OP: I'm playing StJ/Ice and it's pretty awesome. It feels like an ST version of SS/FA, but slightly more survivable. -
To be honest, it could have been implemented as a pseudoforum and it would have served its purpose. It could just have been a set of links to the correct AT forums with newbie-friendly names, i.e. we could still have had a subforum called 'builds', so newbies could find the -- supposedly illusive -- build forum and just have contained within it a link to every AT subforum with an appropriate heading e.g. 'Brute builds'. This would have served the purpose of showing newer players where to post their builds for their given AT without creating a totally unnecessary and player-base-splitting subforum.
The vets could go on posting as they always had, and new players could be quickly pointed to where the vets post. Now we just have a situation where no-one's sure where they should really be posting, and most vets just ignore this subforum. -
Quote:It seems quite hit and miss for me, as the catalysed version in Foot Stomp, but I do seem to leap halfway up the fury bar earlier on in fights, and reach 100% at least occasionally (versus never, with the proc out of that power). So it seems the proc is worthless now I don't seem to be going any higher on the fury bar then without the proc. Can anyone tell me if the superior version is any better. It is slotted in burn was getting me to full before maybe I should slot into a different power now idk.

Hiya, here's my vague attempt at putting a Psy/Fire/Mu together. I don't really play blasters, so I went for >32% S/L/E/N defense (i.e. one small purple inspiration to softcap defenses) and close to perma-hasten. My rationale for going for S/L/E/N rather than ranged is that /Fire is a melee set for blasters, so typed defenses against the most common types seemed to be more damage mitigating than just ranged defense. I assume that's close to what a Psy/Fire blapper aims for, but I really have no idea whether it's good or not; perhaps a more experienced blaster could revise the build?

Nooo!
Well, best of luck to you. I hope you enjoyed that final CC. -
Quote:Correct, yes.Ah. Thanks for the explanation.
I've gone Rogue with all my characters over level 20 until now, as I find that the Villain side has much less activity, and I can then also join some stuff on the Hero side. I understand that that means I can't get the Alignment Merits you talk about? You need to be a Hero or a Villain if I read the Paragon Wiki correctly?
I'd personally try to go Hero if I were you. Unless you particularly like redside, it's basically a dead zone on every server I've played on. -
There's a recipe/Invention Origin called 'Luck of the Gambler'. It's a defense set, and one of its member IOs is a +global recharge/defense IO. It goes for an awful lot of money (since global recharge basically affects the recharge of all of your powers). If you do the Signature Story Arcs, and you're aligned to either Hero or Villain morality, then you're given the choice to choose an Alignment Merit, two of which can be traded for Luck of the Gambler: Global Recharge/Defense (commonly referred to as 'lotg +rech'). Alternatively, running 10 tip missions for your alignment and then running a morality mission will also grant you one Alignment Merit (this can get a bit confusing, because A Merit also means 'Astral Merit', which is something totally different -- yeah, the game has too many currencies, and the developers have already agreed that's a problem).
For bluesiders (Heroes and Vigilantes), Fort Trident in Atlas Park is where you trade your Alignment Merits. I'm not sure where it is on redside (Villains and Rogues), but I'm sure PW or some other game wiki says. -
Quote:Yeah, SS just basically overpowers everything in terms of damage, but as others have said, it's not that SS itself is good, but that rage adds 160% damage bonus when double stacked. At a steady 80% fury (which isn't too hard to achieve on SS/FA), an SS/FA will be permanently at 320% damage.So....
Super Strength is doing more damage than fire, while ALSO adding more survivability? How is that fair to fire melee?
Isn't fire supposed to do more damage? Because it's "the best at damage"? And it pays for having the best damage by losing its mitigation?
And yet, super strength beats it handily?
Fire needs a buff.
Fire armor already had to be heavily buffed to get it in front of shield defense, it sounds like fire melee needs another look at too.
Hello? Devs? Why is fire melee eclipsed IN DAMAGE by a heavy-mitigation set like super strength, or street justice?
But SS does have its extreme downside: endurance. It's a heinously endurance heavy powerset. I'm talking full bar to nothing in 8 seconds at 50 with an SS/FA, if you go all out. It really requires T4 Ageless to be worth having, otherwise it just isn't possible to get the benefits I previously mentioned (because it forces you to ignore survivability and build solely for recharge; if you don't have T4 Ageless, you need Consume to be popping up continuously).
There's already a downside built in to SS. Yeah, it has much better damage than everything else, but it has far nastier endurance issues. Really, pick what you're willing to put up with. If you're willing to put up with lower damage in a trade for steadier endurance, then go fire. If you want the absolute highest damage for absolutely retarded endurance consumption (Knockout Blow alone takes one fifth of your blue bar per activation -- same with Foot Stomp), then go SS.
SS isn't a heavy mitigation set, it's a heavy damage set with a little bit of mitigation (good luck using a low level KD in Foot Stomp to mitigate AVs or even most bosses...), but that nice package comes at the cost of endurance consumption that's unmanageable without either gimping one's build or going for Ageless.
EDIT:
Quote:Aneurysmo - Obviously, I could PL my toon, but since I've never used Superstrength powerset before, that would make me a pretty inept player, not knowing if I need to slot more for end recovery or accuracy. Besides, even if I got my toon level bumped, I still need to get my toon the accolades. Even a speed synapse tf is gonna take 40 minutes. The formation of the tfs takes time, in forming of iTrials on my server takes almost as much as the trial itself except on weekend evenings. One thing I don't need to do is powerlevel. If I miss all the agony of leveling up, I could easily forget to choose one power sooner over another.
If you're just looking for us to talk you into making a decision you've already made i.e. to play your SS/FA again, then you don't need our advice. Do whatever you find most enjoyable. If you want us to tell you which is a better farmer, then that's SS/FA, but as I mentioned, for your needs (sporadic farming every week), F/FA is more than good enough. We're not debating MA/FA vs SS/FA farming here: we're debating two very top-notch AoE melee attackers. If you're fine with what you've got, then why change it? -
I find that really, really unlikely. Double rage + fiery embrace makes my knockout blow strike AVs for roughly 1.5k damage. For one hit. Footstomp does around 400-500 and burn's initial burst damage, not even factoring in DoT, is over 600. I'm almost always above 280% damage bonus.
If Fire/Fire does more damage, I'd love to see how. -
I'd say that you're plenty fine as an F/FA broot if all you're interested in is having a moderately fast farming experience and an enjoyable teaming experience, but what I think is being ignored here (and on the forums at large) is just how great a properly built SS/FA is in regular content.
With my SS/FA I've completely solo'd the MoITF, a whole load of pylons, breezed through everything at 2/8 other than Arachnos (they're a pain in the ****, but I'm fine with them if I'm willing to chug inspirations), and can safely tank the majority of things if needed by teams whilst still outputting giant damage. It's a pretty excellent combination for proper team play if built correctly, unfortunately we mainly just see utterly gimped 'farm' builds so people end up thinking that all SS/FA is good for is farming. Built for 32.5% positional defense, it can basically take on everything (other than GMs; we're not ill/rad!). It goes without saying that it's also ludicrous in farms -- less than 2 minutes for a full entrance and ambushes clear in FIRE! -- but that's besides the point I'm trying to make.
I'm coming up on 700hrs just with SS/FA: it's that awesome. But if you're finding your fire/fire good enough for what you want to do, then stick with it. It's still plenty good DPS, so if you're farming fast enough for your current needs then you're farming fast enough.
edit: As a side note, it doesn't take fifty hours to get an SS/FA to 50, it actually took me 6 via self-PLing with AE. -
Quote:The problem is that I can PL a toon (if I so wish; I hate PLing) to 50 in less than 8 hours. Giving any store reward would be an insane idea.I have been playing since Oct 05, I have 2 accounts and 25 lvl 50s accross those accounts and probaly over 200 alts there to. It isn't hard to get to 50, they in fact reduced the requirement to lvl 20 well before Freedom.
By that argument you have therem they would have to give everyone a month for every lvl 50 they had, thats nice, 25 months free VIP time... I think not. Maybe something like a 30 day free IO access deal per 50, now that would be a nice subtle reward they could do for non VIP players.
Doesn't apply to non-VIP players.
For free players, it'd be nice to offer them a week of incarnate content for that single character that just dinged 50 - non-cumulative as an added bonus. -
Quote:Hard? Nope. Boring and irritating? Yep.I never had a problem with it myself. Is it really that hard to run those missions?
I haven't started a new character in roughly 600hrs (I really, really love my all-purpose built SS/FA broot), but I co-lead a somewhat active SG and we all do the ITF every few nights or nightly, so we have to run an obscene amount of Midnighters arcs to get new characters/players into the ITF.
And damn that arc gets boring quickly.

Oh look! There's yet another snarky argument on the forums! I guess it must be a day ending in a 'y'.
With my own snarky jibe thrown out there, here's the built I'm currently using (and it works pretty fantastically for team play; I've had that lovely comment "...Are you sure you're a controller?" when people see me wading into stuff without taking damage):

1) Perma Hasten
2) >10 Mezz protection to almost everything, so you can choose whatever Destiny you feel like choosing
3) Excellent chance to passively confuse enemies (if they're shooting each other, then they're not shooting you!)
4) >32.5% defense to all positions (one small purple to softcap vs everything, in other words, or one Vengeance to fall just shy of softcap vs everything at incarnate levels)
5) >90% heal every two seconds
6) 100% endurance every eight seconds
7) Still retains all the most useful team buffs, including leadership (I left out Increase Density, but if that's a power you like then you could replace World of Confusion for it)
cons:
1) It's still very endurance heavy thanks to the toggles - you might want to go for an ageless Destiny
2) Its resistances are horrid against anything other than S/L
3) Its max HP is also horrid
4) It has no travel power - this isn't really a big deal if you have Ninja Run, because Ninja Run + Siphon Speed = Super Speed
5) It's prohibitively expensive
Hope this helps some! -
