i would look at you builds but i keep getting an error when i try.

I must say I disagree that fire is sub par for brutes. Therefore this is what I've come up with.
The build I've posted below DOES have panaceas in Healing Flames because I saw you had them in your build so I was willing to slot them as well. However I checked it and if you slot doctored wounds your recharge on hasten only increases by 0.9s So I would recommend saving yourself the money. With Panaceas hasten recharges in 121.1 without it it's 122.0
Hasten is soo close to perma.. you've got a solid amount of HP, a solid end gap, and soft capped smashing lethal defense.

I also noticed that you took Dark Obliteration. Don't do that. While I love the power and Gloom's awesomeness if your truly looking to min/max your build Fiery Embrace will benefit Fireball WAYY more than Dark Obliteration.

Hmmm I thought I had the newest version of mids, dunno why you guys are getting errors. I'll see if I can fix them.
Fire isn't sub-par. I, and others, have solod the ITF (and more) with /Fire broots. What fire is, is essentially a second source of DPS. Burn is a giant heap of damage, better than almost all primary DPS powers and it's up perma on a good build. What fire isn't, is a particularly good source of mitigation. It relies very heavily upon its heal keeping it standing. That said, getting it to 32.5% defense v positions makes it fairly tough.

Virtue and Freedom
Hi, my name is Northman, and I am an Altoholic. No wait, I'm Lost Nova, no wait, Arc Havoc, no, Dragon Moon, no, Lord Fury......
i was not at all saying that FA doesn't have its uses, its an "offensive" shield, but the OP said all around, meaning jack of all trades, and you don't see too many FA brutes tanking particularly well, there are exceptions to this of course, as with everything. if you took a percentage of the amount of survivable invul brutes VS the amount of survivable FA brutes, i think you know the answer. if your staying with FA, that's fine (as if you need my approval) it's your choice, i was just giving my opinion

Part of the mentality of successfully playing /Fire is 'offense is a good defense' or 'kill it before it kills me'. The huge offensive tools it offers (including a second Build Up in Fiery Embrace, a PbAoE DoT and, of course, Burn) make this a real possibility for most mobs.
If you want a real 'all-rounder' then may I recommend fire/wp/soul. It is...astonishing.
(Looks for build)

One thing I am wondering about as I am working on some builds... I am still unsure of what I want to make and run through Incarnate trials next. I have major altitis in this game and just keep re-rolling over and over... anyway....
What keeps rolling around in my minds is I have read that +recharge is always good, but I am just wondering because trying to get S/L capped or E/N capped on the builds I've been trying with my TW/ELEC or TW/FIRE, recharge just goes down the drain when trying to softcap those defenses. Is there a magic number of +recharge I should be aiming for? I usually try to either perma hasten pre-alpha or if I have to post-alpha, but either way, I just can't decide what number of +recharge do I want to stop at to try to reach soft-caps because like I said it's very hard to soft-cap S/L and stay above 160% recharge without screwing with your damage slots. I think I find myself in Mids more than I do in-game.
So I have come back to the game from almost a year of not playing and started up a new brute. I got a TW/Fire brute to 50 but have been just toying around with it since I haven't really put much into it yet.
I am looking for an all-around character. I did this with my Fire/SS brute as well, for farming and itrials I went around and built the character around 32% def to S/L and went with as much recharge as possible. It's a fun character, but I've been looking for something to replace it as I *hate* the rage crashes. I know that TW has almost basically the same thing with momentum, but it just takes more micromanagement which I'm fine with because SS gets really boring.
So my conundrum starts with I have 3 tentative builds, each one is going to be pretty expensive.
-1st build 32% S/L , 187% recharge
