just a wild guess here, Earth Mastery will only come after Sone Blast comes around
-
Electric Assault plays very well, my only complaint in it, I would've preferred a tier 3 ranged attack, rather than VS (and yes I know VS has its fans).
-
at this point there aren't really any bad dom assault sets.
reasons to be melee as a dom
Some of the hardest hitting dom attacks are melee
dom's getting a higher melee modifier
some powers such as drain psyche are best leveraged in melee range
with their controls, being in melee usually isn't a problem.
With that said,
If I were to make a range only dom, i'd go either fire or energy assault
primary wise, i'd stay away from grav, since it matures late, but other than the other sets are fine, but i'd stay away from specific combo's, i.e. ice/energy might have a problem since your not using AA, and pose a danger of knocking critters off your ice slick, or the fact that plant you really do need a nice cone to leverage seeds the best if your staying in range.
Just for the record, the number one reason why I love plant, isn't seeds, its creepers, its just a fun power to watch in action. -
basically what others said, I wouldn't describe the Psi changes as a nerf
PSW rebalanced to be more in line with the other dominator PBAE powers, it still compares favorably. Formerly it was a mini-nuke with a quick recharge and no crash.
All other Psi attacks had their damage much improved to be consistant with similar powers in other sets. Formerly, they were all weak sauce in the extreme, its no lie that damage wise the only thing this set had was PSW.
Drain Psyche hasn't been changed to my knowledge
that tier 3 melee attack( i forget its name), formerly it was basically a melee range knockback with minimal damage, now its damage is actually decent, although not overpowered. This is actually a huge plus, this is the only attack with non-psi damage in the set.
All doms had their damage increased, but lost the damage boost from domination, but everyone agrees this is a huge plus.
In short, everyone except for farmers like the new Psi Assault.
I myself, am working on a elect/psi dom right now( last issue gave us alternate animations, so you can now project many of your psi attacks via your hands, a huge asthetic improvement for me, i hated the head animations) -
The joke here is on the Kelds, as far as I know Kelds don't get access to patron pools when they cross over

what carnifax said. AE immobilizes for doms, are only useful when used in combination with either a AE confuse or disorient to produce a ghetto hold. Just spamming AE immobilizes will generally only generate a lot of agro aimed at you.
ST immobilizes can come in handy in some cases, especially with Fire/Energy. Its useful if you want to control your knockback, Immobilizes along with Sleeps seem to work better with the Purple Triangles of Doom, if you want to ground a foe, or to produce a ghetto Burn effect by using it with Bonfire. Unless your seeking specific set bonuses, both immobilize powers are low priority in slotting, in that they both have decent durations and recharges, as side note, last time I checked, Purple Immobilize IO's are among the cheaper purples to pick up on the market. -
for the record, as a first time dom, I wouldn't go with Gravity Control, its not a bad primary, but a late blooming one, that may cause some frustration until it matures (which is when you get Wormhole and Sing).
The best description I'd give to dom's, its sort of like playing a blapper with controls, which actually works pretty well, esp. at this point.
You don't have containment, so the immobilizes are a much lower priority than they would if your a controller. They do have some uses, but much more situational( keeping confused/disoriented foes from wondering, or keeping an EB/AV immobilized).
The main issue you might see, is the mez protection issue with EB/AV's, which blasters would face anyway. but note here, dom's with domination are much better able to stack magnitude than controllers can, and i want to say an grav/earth perma-dom, is perhaps the best build for stacking ST holds in the game( granted it would be a tough road until the build matures). -
I have a 50 fire/energy, its a good combo. looks at energy, its main weakness is that its light on AE Damage, with only WH hands to work off. Fire does a pretty good job of covering that hole. And it is possible to stack disorients( btw, I've always found it odd, none of the control sets has a ST disorient power, but that is a different subject).

Quote:Feast of Crows came out in 2005I'm sure he did. I think I read the original target for books was 8. (looks at number of WoT books) Um, yeah. He went a wee bit past that. I remember when I started to get lost in the WoT series, Book 6 maybe. I read reviews about Games of Thrones and it was literally billed as for people tired of the WoT series.
WoT series is going to be so huge I wonder if a credible 8 book series could be made out of it, but I would be curious how it would read. I had never read anything over 1K in pages. For me to read a series with multiple books like that and keep track of everything was an achievement. It just got too much for me when the list of characters grew to where I started losing track of people and somebody who I thought was awesome in one book doesn't show up again until late in the next book and not for long and book 6 wasn't even that part where it really got bad for being long winded either.
I don't think fans of the Game of Thrones series really worry about the quality of the books. They just want them finished. I just went and looked it up. I know a singer/songwriter and author who has put out 3 albums, 2 albums of B-sides, and two novels since A Feast of Crowns came out.
looks at Brandon Sanderson who has done a great job with WoT
Since 2005
two WoT books
the Way of Kings
his three Mistborn books
as well as some other stuff.
I think Martin like Jordan, are/ were great writers who began a project that was bigger than they thought. If his publisher hasn't tried this already, I would find a young writter to help Martin complete his series. At his current rate, I don't think anyone is actually expecting Martin being able to finish. -
Quote:truthfully, if you wanted to emulate weather here, you would need to debuff perception and as well as have a slow debuff. Not to mention snow hiding gears and other critters and slick spots. As far as special NPC's, I could see band of renagade snow plow drivers with a Giant Snow Plow. Trust me it would get old fast, and I'm sure WW knows this, having lived in area that sees its share of snow. As a concept zone, I wouldn't have anything against a cold climate zone.Turns out I did misrepresent WWs statement a bit, as Noble pointed out. It was unintentional, wasn't trying to put words in her mouth. I'll edit the original post to be more accurate. Typing from 2 day old memory fail.
Glad this topic sparked good conversation, though! One thing I'd be absolutely against would be weather having a beneficial or detrimental effect on powers.
One thing she could do to make PC more like RI, is to add more donut shops, its impossible to go more than a mile or so w/o seeing one here( well excluding highway of course, and even then, there is one usually near each exit.) -
Quote:So far has handled GR better than CoV, with CoV there was a huge spike, BUTT it was followed by two eventsNo but compared to CoV which more than doubled sales from the previous quarter from 6412 to 15706 million KWN. It sort of sicks out on the graph.
-the entire ED mess which came to a suprise to many, looking back now, the invention system has more than given back what we lost with ED itself, but it was perhaps one of the most unpopular nerfs ever, and did cost them a lot of subs based on how it was handled, so far WW is good here
-the longest drought in issues( no doubt due to the events going on between NcSoft and Cryptic at the time), with issue 19, WW seems good here, in terms of followup
Looks over at CO, it really doesn't seem like a good sign their going F2P. So round one goes to CoX, next round we'll see CoX vs. DCUO -
And god forbid, with the Dev's sense of humor, they would maybe duplicate the Winter of '78 in PC as a special event for a week or so( incidently to truly capture winter effects, there would also need to be a global slow debuff going on as well)
-
I'm actually fine with her comment, but I should also disclose I live in Rhode Island in RL.
To truly capture RI winters, you would want all of PC looking exactly like that X-mas zone, which would be a pain in the but to play in, it would maybe be popular at first, but I should also add, winter weather here CAN start as early as Oct and your not safe from it until April or so, so the winter effects would get old real quick as it does with RL New Englanders, ( with WW being Canadian I'm sure she understands this, and is perhaps a factor why she is in CA), While it does rain here, you don't actually see a lot of Thunder Storms here, not like when I lived in Atlanta. I know people here, who would be freaked out by the amount of thunder and lightning you see elsewhere.
And just to add something else on a related subject, RI in real life is to huge degree a City-State, that is you have Providence and much if the rest of the state, as well as parts of MA are its subburbs, with only Newport maybe qualifying as a seperate community MAYBE.
My point is, Paragon City would have to be some sort of alternate Providence which started off in a slightly different part of the state. -
I think the previous posters pretty much covered it.
the Rules of the PvP Zones are this
1-When entering, expect to be attacked, no matter what your plans are.
2-If you don't like the climate of the PvP Zone at the time, fill free to leave.
3-Using geometry as stated above, is the only thing in PvP specific that you can do, that is banable to my knowledge.
4-Remember this is just a game, some people forget this and drive themselves in a tizzy, if your forgetting this rule, maybe it is time for you to take a break or something, -
I do think this is due to low ratings from going so far from its roots and lost its core audience. I do no the success of some of the other cable networks does tempt some cable network owners, but the fact is, the market can only support so many USA Networks.
Looks at other channels that I don't watch anymore b/c their not the same as when I first started watching them
-MTV, there really isn't much music left in MTV anymore, I really would like to see how its ratings now compare to what it was 10-15 yrs ago.
-SyFy- I'm watching this less and less these days, as it changes. -
Like others said, this is a major bad idea, granted like all of the other bad Superman ideas it will pass,
Batman is brooding, heck he has been brooding long before Twilight was a twinkle in someone's eye, and it works for him
the only way I could see this working, is maybe if their using Conner instead of Clark -
with snow storm, i am half convinced its the travel suppression that makes it work, and not the actual -slow of the power
-
Quote:its really hard to tell, in that the VAST majority of slow powers, seem to have only a marginal effect in PvP.I'm pretty sure by this point EVERYONE agrees travel suppression needs reworking.
Movement slowing powers should be *slightly* more effective so they are viable, can stack, and aren't too overpowered. I think DR prevents a lot of things from being overpowered. Does DR effect slows too? -
I admit it, If I had super powers, I would become a supervillain
-
Gravity Control would be the big no no for a first time Dom, in large part its primary soft control comes so late in the build( but once you get it, and have Wormhole slotted, things get much better for you).
Ice Control isn't bad, it just works a little different than the other sets
I admit I am one of the few who aren't crazy about Mind Control, but I recognize it is a solid set( I don't know its just not flashy enough for me)
All of the other sets are fine. Although I really do wish they would give Doms Illusion Control, I so want to make an Illusion/Psi Dom -
I'll also add KM's PBAE, when slotted, used from hide, and with build up, can drop most even con minions( with an extra red or so for higher con minions), makes those instances where you have to defeat all, much less of a pain.

I haven't played a MM in PvP, but I have both seen and faced them.
I believe at one point the Dev's mentioned they thought MM's would fill the role of tanks redside in PvE, which isn't precisely how things evolved there.
I mention this because thats sort of how they are in PvP in a way.
With bodyguard mode active they won't go down quickly generally, and PvPers often don't bother with AE's( which are generally weaker in pvp anyway), which is the one thing MM's are vulnerable to. If you catch a MM not in Bodyguard or too far away from their henches their usually toast. What this means often their comparitively slow moving( since their not constantly jumping around), they have an excellent reason to have TP Foe. On the other side, they would be the first ones who would want a TP Protection IO if the dev's ever made one, since that is one tactic that works great with them. -
Quote:I want Illusion for Dom's BADI rarely find that additional mitigation is something my doms require. So on that note I personally find Singy to be nice looking and that's about it.
I like imps because they excel at a singular focus that I desire; additional damage.
I like stoney because he's nearly unstoppable, aggressive, and does good damage
If there was a choice of phantom army they would be my vote.
While not quite a 'pet' I also really like carrion creepers. -
the one bright side here is that enemy stalkers have the same issues seeing you if your at max stealth.
Currently the only AT that can see stalkers to any degree are VEATs, which I am actually fine with them having given some of the issues VEATs face in pvp. I have no idea if EAT's have a similar perception cap( granted it would be tougher for them to get to it, although Warshades would be a better test for this than PB's) -
now that all regens can and often do take hibernate, good luck
