Is it still broken?
Bug in Mission/Code
No matter:
Tip Mission lvl 33: Free the Crey Captives
Second captive I freed told me "[NPC] Crey Captive?: <ErRoR: CaNnOt FiNd PLATITUDESTRING6.TXT, AcCeSsInG NeXt StRiNg> Happy birthday Nicoli Tesla!
[NPC] Scientist: That's company property Nicoli Tesla!" -
Quote:Thats funny. At 49 I took hover on my master mind because I couldn't come up with anything better to take. Thanks, it's great to hear that I don't even need to worry about getting my hands on a constant stream of recipes. =P
Been planning out my MM, and hated feeling like I had to take Hover just in case, so it's a load off knowing I can give the slot to a more relevant power. =) -
Quote:ThanksZep, please pay no attention to the less than helpful people that have responded thus far, all in jest. There was an unschedualed maintaniance today that lasted for almost 6 hours. When the servers did come up, it was appartent that there was a rather far reaching rollback. (Some people have reported loss of items, rewards, ect for events that occured 24-36 hrs ago.)
The servers then went down again, and are still down as I write this. Been a bad day for all involved.
I understand they are frustrated due to not being able to play. Doesnt make it OK, just understandable.
I appreciate the helpful information. I did a little character work last night before bed, I am hoping it hasn't gone *poof* in the night.
A feedback I would take to NCSoft is that key information like this does not show on the launcher. When the launcher is opened and City of Heroes is selected this info should come up. For all the otherwise good points with COH the devs are very slow to make public announcements. Sure, if you go thread searching you can often find some info on patches or whatever, it is not however easily accessible. -
Quote:Thinking about it I am not so sure that the game is restricted to 1.5 gig of ram even in a 32 bit OS. I'll need to check after this extended down time. Most 32-bit programs are able to address up to 2 gig of ram and there are ways to increase that.In addition, City of Heroes will only use about 1.5 GB of memory max, so even if you're on a 64bit operating system, you wouldn't gain much of any benefit by going beyond 4 GB of RAM (although other things might, especially if you run other heavy applications at the same time).
All in all more ram = more system speed including COH. If for no other reason because the OS will do more caching and there is less competition for ram space and less VM access.
This is from microsoft: doesn't format well to the forums. Basically says the default memory available in 32-bit systems is 2 gigs max per process and 3 gigs if a certain library is used with the code.
Memory type Limit in on X86
User-mode virtual address space for each 32-bit process
2 GB
Up to 3 GB with IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE and 4GT -
Quote:You have to play email tag with them to get your items/cash back. Kinda annoying but it is their game. I kept getting asked what server I used at a certain time and date and answers like, "I dont remember" or "It was one of these two" would just get me the same form letter response until I made something up. Then the rep was willing to go look and recover my items from mail. Losing XP and/or a respec would be much more frustrating then the few items I lost in the mail system.I have had this happen twice now but it was my emails that were deleted. I hope you get it fix. I have now lost 8 recipes and 30 million influence and support has not recovered it.
I really hope you have more luck than I did.
Please make sure you havnt missed one of their replies asking some silly question. -
Cant connect server status says down.
Did I miss an announcement that maintenance has changed time?
I dont log on this time of day for the most part.... is this normal? -
Quote:PvP needs something, not sure what, maybe capture the flag? Or something like Wintergrasp. My mistake, I'll put it in there. But to answer your question, I've never bothered with the PvP to be honest. It never really appealed to me, and my brief experience in there has reinforced that initial opinion of it.
BTW, thanks for not being overly condescending....oh wait.
I dont much get into PvP, however WOW was able to tempt me into it from time to time with things like Wintergrasp - zone PvP with a decent reward for wining... access to an instance with decent drops.
Maybe a hazard zone that has mobs with a slightly higher chance to drop shards/threads with a TF available that runs fairly quick and has a higher rate of inf/thread/shard drops that is open only to hero *or* villain based on who won.... sure it would be a little less then original, it would get people to PvP.
For those unfamiliar with WOW/RoTLK: http://www.wowwiki.com/Wintergrasp
I think this would bring more AT's into PvP. Not that the game doesn't need some work and to be rebalanced for PvP. -
Quote:QTF*Security questions are not the same as, as good as, or a suitable replacement for two factor authentication, in fact they weaken security by making it easier for 3rd parties to gain information about how to access your account because facts about you are much easier to find out that what is essentially an entirely arbitrary password</rant>
NCSoft needs to come out with their version of the keychain and/or Ios/Android security key. Anything less can be social engineered or internet data mined. -
Quote:I normally consider registering the product as my proof of ownership.Doesn't everyone keep their codes just in case you might need them, if not the entire box? I thought that was common sense. That's your proof that you have a legit copy of the program.
Really considering the number of games per year, the total number of games for the last ten years alone, most people dont want to save that much stuff.
They sell the game as a licence to use their product not as a physical product. -
Did have the energy (tonight) to read the whole thread.
I would like to see a real office building sometime. You know square or rectangular in shape, every floor, appropriate inner rooms/spaces, and an elevator they has random floor access. If it is tall enough then various elevators that serve certain banks of floors.
I could see the elevator computer being hacked or breakers being tripped or various reasons why one had to get off at each floor and do something before proceeding up. I wonder if the game engine could even be set up to have an elevator bay with multi-floor choices, or more like an up/down button and a special room to be the elevator with buttons.
Can it be done? -
Quote:Ya, the Insp flow really seems to work for my fire/storm controller. Mostly break free and defense. I dont always do well with heavy mez groups, something most tank/brute types dont need to worry about, and missing a sapper in a spawn can go badIf you can survive 1-2 x8 mobs you can survive the whole mission. There seems to be a kill speed breaking point where insps (which can be combined for purples) are flowing in fast enough to become invincible forever. So long as you NEVER. STOP. KILLING. which is a brute specialty.
Grats, btw, you'll love that ability when it comes to gathering incarnate shards.
I'd say the cardiac alpha is what really made things possible, otherwise I would end crash before the spawns were down and have to wait a while between groups. For a brute its all about keeping the rage bar full, right? My only brute is about lvl 8.
Grats on becoming the pain inflicting machine you always wanted to be. My sense of power comes from making people choke on fumes and flinging them one and all all over the map (at least solo - I tone down a lot teaming unless it is an all ranged team).
I even managed to get Dragon (however it is spelled) from the LGTF air-born for a while, that was very amusing.
Curious, for people, what does make you feel like a true POWER in game, like you are awesome and kicking <expletive deleted>? -
Hot Feet is a good damage power and with the tricks of fire control and storm you can make the mobs sit there and take it. Adding imps at 32 only makes things better.
I am starting a fire/storm corrupter to see how that plays, dont know if it will be as powerful and awesome as my controller, should still be fun. Snow Storm + Freezing Rain + Inferno should mean tightly packed groups taking very extreme damage. -
I've noticed the same problem and I updated my screen shot key bind in game after my keyboard change.
I'll have to check out that windows store.
Nope, nothing in the %apps% then again I dont use the default crograms location for the game.
I'll go check and see if screen shots are working again... hmmm, the print screen button took me from 77 to 78 items in the folder guess it is working. Sort by Date made it a lot easier to find. -
Quote:My gtx 280 worked just fine till I upgraded.Much like others in this thread, I was getting the NVidia "driver has encountered an error and will recover" dialog box when I was running with an Nvidia GTX 285. Nothing I did seemed to make any difference... until I swapped video cards.
Yes, it sucks. And it's expensive. But it completely solved the issue for me. Now I'm running an NVidia GTX 480 with the 260.89 drivers and I haven't had a single crash on the same machine that was running the 285 video card. I'm even overclocking my CPU.
I don't know if there are stability issues with the 2xx chipsets or the older card had hardware issues.
If it is the vid card many can be fixed easily (imo) and cheaply by baking them. I can get you a thread if you need more info. It has to do with the solder process used sometimes makes joints that will crack internally after enough heat up/cool down cycles. I've read a lot of posts about dead vid cards fixed this way.
-- Edit --
Are you running the Evga Precision, Riva Tuner or any other utilities for tweaking your vid card? There have been reports of incompatibilities with COx, particularly when opening dialog windows in game.
What is your power supply? Watts and brand. These new vid cards suck a whole lot of juice a stressed PS could be causing problems as well. Do you hear a high pitched whine from the case or anything like that? -
Quote:I was reading up on Open Gl and Nvidia a few weeks back and saw a recommendation to use "compatibility performance mode" rather then single display mode for open gl problems.I've been having this problem too. One thing I tried today was going into the NVIDIA control panel and disabling Multi-GPU mode. Not sure if it's fixed it for sure, but so far I've been logged in several hours (running two instances) without a problem. But that could just be blind luck.
But still, Disabling Multi-GPU mode has worked for me so far. I'll post here if it turns out I'm wrong and it crashes again. But hopefully it won't. -
Quote:Just found this: (for ddr3)I have 6 GB (3 x 2 GB sticks) of RAM; Corsair XMS 3 DDR3.
Timings were manually set to 9-9-9-24. Voltage manually set to 1.65 V. These were the recommended settings.
Since the problem persists after a fresh install, it seems unlikely to me that some extraneous background software could be a factor, but I'll see about posting a HijackThis anyways.
>>>
According to JEDEC[2] the maximum recommended voltage is 1.575 volts and should be considered the absolute maximum when memory stability is the foremost consideration, such as in servers or other mission critical devices. In addition, JEDEC states that memory modules must withstand up to 1.975 volts before incurring permanent damage, although they are not required to function correctly at that level.
<<<
Maybe drop the voltage to 1.575?
I was having a similar problem with WOW a while back, everything else worked, system was fine etc, wow just kept crashing, increasing my ddr2 voltage to 2.05 fixed it. May be another part of the system and not your vid card/cpu that isnt keeping up.
How many dimm sockets do you have and how are they slotted? Does your Bios support various ram timing and interleaving options? If so try backing them down a bit, maybe to the next slower memory speed and try turning off interleaving or at least way down.
On another note, since it is being a pain to find the problem, have you tried clearing your Cmos and setting up bios to defaults? -
Quote:Generally I take fly, my second choice for a travel power is 'port. It depends on the character and build. I will generally dedicate at least two slots. One end redux one range. Two or three ranges can be nice too, if you have the slots to spare.I sort of like the added stealth, and I do use it as a travel power and I do not find it endurance draining to me. Although, I usually travel inside a bubble, but I find that stealth allows me to sometimes assist by detracting aggro from me to get a mass AOE hold.
Ok, so some people do slot it. I just wanted to make sure that I was not wasting slots. Right now this set offers me Range, Stealth and the bonus is regeneration.
On my stalker I have recall friend and 'port both two slotted with Time + Space for the two 8% regin buffs. On a char with no -kb its a good place to put one.
What level, build are you now? I am a little surprised 'port doesn't attack your end bar. Then again you may have no toggles. -
Quote:Thank you. Keep in mind my Alpha slot is giving me 45% end redux on everything. With the leadership toggles the base end is like .4/sec or so. The additional savings from adding a slot are not significant. Think it goes from .21 to .18 /sec. The big huge end hogs for my build are Hot Feet (even with maxed end redux) Lightning Storm, Tornado and Fire Cages (due to spam the -kb will only last 15 sec and is not enhanceable) They are all at 70% or more end redux with my Alpha.Hi Zep
I'm not a min/max'er and probably not the best at critiquing a build - but I took a look and had a couple thoughts:
Your biggest drains seem to be Maneuvers and Tactics. You have no endurance reduction in those. I would at the least add 1 additional slot to each if possible and throw in some endurance reduction.
You have 3 slotted hasten. I think you would be fine with just two.
You have 2 pacing of the turtles in hot feet, including the special. I don't know how much -recharge benefits you, but if you replaced those with 2 pieces from tempered readiness, you'd get the small recovery bonus - and I'd make one of them the accuracy/end red.
In shark skin you have just a resist IO. I'd try to add a 2nd slot, and though it might be pricey, try to put in maybe two from the impervium armor set - you get a small recovery bonus with that, and can put in a resist/end red and the end/end red/recharge, for reduced endurance use from that power, and still maintain the same resistance. Or perhaps put in the resist/end red from both aegis and titanium coating.
I would remove the endurance slot from fly and use that elsewhere slot elsewhere, and try not to use fly during combat, or at least try to rely on hover.
Not sure how much your rely on ring of fire for the immob, but perhaps 2 pieces from thunderstrike for the small recovery bonus. You won't get the same level of accuracy or recharge you currently have, but I believe the power recharges pretty quickly any way.
Hope some of this helps!
Moving a slot out of hasten would take it to what, 84.8% recharge instead of 99.8, might be worth it. I am very tight on slots and would enjoy having about 20 more to add.
I do use ROF frequently, as one of my few single target attack powers. (also to set containment) Thunder Strike might be a good idea there. That would pick me up a little more end/sec. maybe I will make 4end/sec with out buffs.
I havnt decided if I am keeping hover. It makes a nice mule even with one slot, in another month or so I can just drop it though, I am thinking I might take Snow Storm in it's place for AV and other part time use. With 1 end redux it should be to harsh. Then again I may keep hover just to mule the LOTG, I can fit one more into Steam Mist if I really want and have four. With my other priorities I will never make Perma haste, doesnt mean I dont want as much recharge as I can get though. -
Quote:Have you tried defragmenting your VM file? Windows as a rule does not defragment data blocks over a set size. It can be a pain to do this however. Last I checked you need to turn off virtual mem, delete the VM file and then do a complete defragment using command line switches to get it to work on large blocks, then turn VM back on.Thanks for all the info I am running COH on a clean Window 7 install.
Literally nothing installed nothing in the background, MSCONFIG nothing on startup.
All unnessary services are stopped.
Yet the issue still happens everytime I exit the game, to desktop, and then try to play again.
Only way to fix it is with a reboot.
Lowering graphics does not help at all and this issue is ot present in any of my other games.
More ram should help you too, is you VM set to let windows handle it? Or to a specific size? -
Quote:I was surprised the hands were still up as well. At $100 I'll still likely go, specially if it is a 3 day even and not one day like the first hero con. This came up at the Bay Area Meet and Greet. From what I gathered, while we loved the Herocon, it wasn't exactly a money-making venture on their part, and may even been very costly; that was a lot of hotel space. They asked us how much we would pay for a Herocon, and when they noticed that there were still a lot of hands in the air when they said "$100", I think they were surprised.
I think we may see another Herocon, but it'll be more expensive than the last. How much was that one? $40? $50? I don't remember. I'd bet the next one would be two or three times the cost of the last, and they will probably gauge interest before they go that way. -
I have had it on my stalker, when he was a bit lower level and his damage shields were still pretty thin. Now I either gank the tough mob beat down the rest or just plain give them all the beat down. Lightning rod is great for that.
-
I do have the Atlas and Portal End boosts. At least on my biggest end sucking person.
Lets see, his End is 115.85 and his in combat recovery is 3.79 end/second or 3.89 if my Light Fairy is alive at the moment.
My static End consumption is 1.73 / second not counting fly. (this is with a cardiac total core revamp)
From what I have read above I am doing ok, maybe well, however there may be some room for improvement. I didnt previously have a basis for comparison.
Below is my working build if anyone is curious or can give advise. I looked at picking up two pieces of eradication to replace the two cleaving blow in Hot Feet, I dont have the in game cash for what those sell for (I did put in a couple sniper bids though maybe I can get lucky. Another damage proc would be nice)

Quote:Unlock patron pools, it will just take a quick trip to the dark side and back and you can get the Ghost Widow dark pool or one of the others that may work for you.Well, I cant color the Epic fire Purple or what not. But Fireball is definately coming in handy. Primal Forces seemed good, but as a controller I did not see Soul Mastry or anything dark based.
I had Fire, Ice, Stone, Psionic, and primal. I thought I could color the fire.
I think I went fire because I already have knockback and Stone and Primal offer knockback. Psionic, I liked, and it was between that and fire really. But My build lacks any form of AOE options. I just can't color the fire. Or when I go to the tailor it's just not an option.
