They have no opportunity to prepare for the boss because they didnt see him.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just give Bosses the same Aura Effects that us players get at level 30 and reduce their Awareness range.

why isnt everything solo-able the answer is simple. We want gameplay that encourages the best part of the game: teaming up. Soloing is fine, but a MMP really shines when you meet other people and play alongside them. Ive made many good virtual friends through other MMPs that I simply would not have done if I could solo everything all the time. I admit it: Im anti-social. Its hard to get me to group up with strangers. But after I do it, I always wonder why dont I do this more often I might still be anti-social in real life, but in MMPs Im a social butterfly (I have no doubt that this will appear in sigs for years to come )

2. What is the Vision for CoH?
5. Why did you incorporate a mission slider to make some missions more difficult and increase the boss difficulty level when bosses make up such a large percentage of missions?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't want to sound like the rest of the malcontents, but I think it looks like he intentionally dodged these questions, considering their intent.
And I think it's something that demmands answers too.
ALL of the content that's been added since Issue#1 has been Group Content yet at the same time grouping became less and less popular. And now people are feeling like grouping is being forced on them. Maybe They're even jumping the gun because I've noticed a BUNCH of the missions I just did this week didn't have any bosses in them, and that was in a Duo. 5 missions in a row infact we get to the end and it was always just a named Lt. ...I was pretty dang let down because boss fights are the only thing that get me excited anymore but that's a topic for another thread.
The Issue I'm pointing at here, is major Ambiguity. What is the Vision aplied to US? Like when we're soloing? I think what they were asking for is what changes can we expect to make that other "Vision" enforced. Everyone was kinda blindsided by the Boss Changes since NO ONE was complaining about Boss Difficulty, only the Minion and LTs difficulty(or lack there of)....Infact some of us were even looking forward to the "1 hero = 3 minions" deal that was supposed to be coming because it gave us single target attackers an EXP edge over the AoE'ers. But now in order to make the minion/lt's interesting in their missions' difficulty setting they have to take the Boss with it, spend 5-10 minutes just to beat the boss, and get the same EXP they woulda gotten from 2 Lt's. If Bosses are meant to be for Teams of players, then why are they Statistically more like an impediment instead of a rewarding fight?
For example, yesterday in a Duo, I beat down 2 Lt's in about 30 seconds and got well over 520+ EXP off of both of them. And then a Boss takes 2-3 minutes, can 2-shot me or my sidekick, and actualy give LESS Exp than the 2 Lt's combined, or roughly 1024 EXP. ...And this was RIKTI.... you know, the ones that are supposed to be giving EXTRA EXP along with the DE.
So I think these are the questions that people are looking for answers to about the "Vision":
--Has solo-able content been added? (most bosses replaced with LT's in missions?)
--If not, then when will new Solo content be added?
--Why are Bosses such a PITA and giving such low EXP?
--Why does the mission difficulty menu effect Bosses if bosses are now designed to be an impediment?
--Didn't this "Vision" also include Damage output increases for Defenders and Controllers at all levels? -

I think I liked a suggestion another poster made once.
How about, at 40, characters are allowed to use Firebase Zulu as a transportation hub to deploy to other parts of the city easier. A Portal Corp building in every trial/hazard zone accessible through the Shadow Shard. So, instead of going from Peregrine to Talos to Steel all the way down to the Yellow Line to Atlas, you can go from Peregrine to Zulu to (say) Perez to Atlas. Or Peregrine to Zulu to the Folly to Brickstown or the Crash Site.
I thought it was a pretty good idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah that's an awesome idea.
I mean what the hell are we paying hard earned taxes to fund the Grants for these Portal Corp egghead's if all they're doing is giving us portals to other dimensions? How about THIS DIMENSION? Even if it costs money each trip, I don't see why they couldn't just Port us to the other side of Paragon when we really need it. -

I think I should have defined crafting to mean UO crafting. What you listed does sound entertaining.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, I do stand corrected then. And thank you, I think the subdued nature of "l00t" in this game is one of its most refreshing qualities, so let's both cross our fingers and hope the devs keep it from being an obsessive pursuit or a tedious click-fest better suited for Macro/BOT programs.
Most of us afterall can agree that resources in any game should be readily available to all, versatile yet purposeful, and bring people together -- not segregate them like beggars under an elitist l00t-camping Aristocracy. ...If we didn't, we'd all be playing WoW or EQ right now. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think that crafting or item gathering would ruin this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
And I think that's almost impossible....
I think it's very improbable that content will continue to be added to the game without any of it it ending up being item/crafting.
I also think they WILL keep it as much a utility as the "item/crafting" we already have is. ...which is very simplistic I think.
I think Enhancements are an actual "item" to be collected.
I think a currently minor and potentially enormous economy exists in this game and it's future
I think Combining Enhancements is a kind of crafting already.
I think the slotting of our powers is a form of crafting granting us customization over each individual "skill".
I think that we're gauranteed to see some kind of additional crafting of Temporary Powers or Enhancements as one of the activities in the Non-Combat system....
...I think the Dev's own admission that "This system is going to be more involved than we first expected" points directly to this.
I even think that allowing us to customize our personal Auras, and later, Weapon graphic details, could also be considered crafting because it costs a resource, allows detailed combination, and can even win us more resources in costume contests.
I also think that SG Bases will be another "money sink" and will likely be built and crafted to Spec and could have further effects of their own on the game economy and/or it's distribution of resources.
....so I think, if you think, that "crafting" could ruin this game, then I think I'd pitty you for giving up prematurely on what could be the most interesting additions still to come. -
I think I've ended up on a team with one of them, a player that I'd been playing with for a month or two told me he was making a new character and the next day or so that same exact weird name was on the forums as a newly-registered 'Red-Name'. Later they said it was a fluke with the system or some jazz...but I doubt that since it's never ever happened to any other new poster. Shortly after that I never saw him again. I think they've even said somewhere that they go on the live servers. ...I know other studios whose employees do that...
They definitely did it in Beta, sometimes asking people sharp questions about their playing experience.
Aside from that, I really have to question just how coordinated they'd be. It doesn't always take great Video Gamers to make great games. I wouldn't be suprised if States & Co choke or get debt just as much as any other player. -
We may not all agree with the changes, but we gotta give Statesman full Props for coming down to the trenches here and defending them, again, and again, and again, and... ...good grief man!
For me personally, these changes may have been right on the money. ...Did the respecc trial today(I only do it personally for the challenge, I haven't actually used a respec yet) and I went into it thinking it was impossible. ...And we failed our first try. AND The fargin Server crashed on the 2nd Try. But we also weren't playing completely as a team or at our top level.
And the kicker was that the other Controller starts telling me I'm so gimped half way through it because he takes out nothing but Purples all day long and can fight 4 bosses at once(yeah right pal, not anymore you can't), and we were all hatin life a little at that point since it was the first time any of us failed it.
But once we got over ourselves and started foccussing our attentions on the man next to us and on all the details, started working together like we were joined at the hip, we flew through it, ended with NO DEBT, and had only 1 death(But he was a FireBlaster so that was required by law ). I'd do it all over again because we reached a new plane, We transcended the standard pickup-group and it's suspicions and akwardness and truly felt like a team of heroes.
Thanks Statesman, for raising the bar on MMO's, and our own potential with it. -
I'm still undecided about this Boss issue.
To tell the truth, the Bosses in +25 game on Test server are still slightly easier than most of the ones you had to fight back in the level 8-20 missions. Well most of them except for Tanker Smashers(DullPain) and Pariahs(damned RiktiSwords). ...those two can 1-shot a Scrapper after first knocking a few HP's off with their initial ranged attacks.
Nothing frustrates me more than some of the Bosses in Early Game. For starters you only have 1 or 2 rows of INSP's, weak sorry sad Training or D.O. enhancements, and no travel powers to help you avoid debt when you know 1 more shot is going to leave you eating Dirt followed by Jello. It's even horrible for the best Scrapper set in the game as they don't get Integration until 16....until that point they're just Blappers on a sugar rush with an inhereant Respite every 30 seconds(works great against everything BUT bosses). ...And the worst thing of all about EarlyGame, is the Borked Defense that every mob has. All our powers have ACC modifiers but the early game mobs seem to have the same exact scale of defense that late game ones have. So Whiffing 1/2 the time on a Boss, even if you have 4 Lucks stacked on and 2 Rages, can be flat out deadly anyway and is always too much demmand on our Endurance.
So Soloing a single Boss starting at level 25 who's buffer than last Issue's Bosses doesn't worry me, I can still solo them on test with the level 30 ill/kin I saved on there. He has no more trouble with one than my level 30 Regen Scrapper does.
BUT, what does worry me is 2 things actually:
1> A lot more Blind Invites from players who aren't as good as I am and who desperately need a boss killed, but don't understand that I will get nothing out of it since I won't be in the mission long enough to get their EXP bonus...
2> Respecc TF's. I can't refuse these, I love a challenge too much. But everytime I do one I end up being the Tank or the main CC'er/Offense so I have to work twice as hard against bosses that are going to also be twice as hard soon.
I did the Respecc a few times on Test, and I never died, but watching the rest of the team wipeout so much, especially those poor Dark Kheldians, had me getting pretty freakin pissed off. I mean quite a few of these people played to level 50. I don't even have any level 50's, but I kniow that very very few BAD players ever reach level 50. I don't mind a Bright Red/and/or/Purple Boss, but 3 or 4 of them at once? No Team should be asked to do that after boosting each one by 40% HP/Damage. Make bosses less common, or face the Biggest drop in subscriptions we've seen yet...It's that simple.
Plus new contact-rules need to go into effect, like having no Bosses in most timed misisons or defeat-alls, putting it in Bright orange letters whenever there IS a boss, Increasing their EXP by 160% instead of 80%, and Greatly reducing the number of Bosses that spawn for large teams in Outdoor missions. -

Yeah, the SSOCOSCSCSSCSCASSOCCSOSOSCCOSC blah foo
Uh, Career/Detective System.
Yeah, that's it. I made the suggestion about it back in summer time. I invented it see... I was all like "Yeah we should have jobs or Career paths and shiz, ways to get more influence and gadgets and temporary powers and resources and personal NPCs and families and storyarcs and mysteries to solve and other things that matter, like the Sims or Scooby Doo but not nearly as g*y" ...or something like that. Yeah, Careers works.
Issue#3 can be ballocks and Issue#4 can only need one single Patch Note for me to be happy so long as that patch note reads: "Added Career-Crafting System". Or SSCOCOCS or whatever it's going to be.

Hmm, I worry about certain posters who feel they're competing for you time will never leave this forum now while spamming the open threads in it, and many casual readers might leave the General forum as abondoned as Faultline too...

Mission customization: Choosing between "regular" mobs and +2 level mobs is not really what I would call a customized mission.

Sigh. That isn't at all what I meant. Mission Customization means, well, a mission has been customized. It's where we go back over old missions and add new art & functionality.

BTW, my compliments to the artists behind the new Drug-Lab warehouses for the Skulls. Looks like an honest to goodness upscale Meth Lab in those missions. Even the chemical haze screams: "Pack this in your glass pipe!" -

Yeah! ...not about Egos??
I'm still not even convinced that our Jack Emmert is actually a Game Designer, or even human. ...But more like a Forest Gump type real-life human-cartoon character but with a much more cynical/antogonistic agenda and just lives to prove people wrong and this whole game is just a continuing scheme to revel in that vice. If a Doctor told him he's going to die in 4 months, Jack would be there at the Doctor's funeral 40 years later just to say "In your Face!". -

It is great that the staff is looking for ways to get players to use the "ignored" zones.
One suggestion that might work:
Actually have the Faultline Trial running.
Faultline is a trial zone... yet there is no trial running in it.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not a Trial Zone. It's a Hazard Zone. Just meaning it's hazardous for someone to try and solo that zone if they're at even con due to the overwhelming size of groups.
[/ QUOTE ]
WRONG! Faultline IS a Trial Zone. Just As TerraVolta has always been as well. The fact that there's atleast one Boss in every pack is your first clue, just like in Terra. ...There's just apparently no actual "Trial" in the zone. Perez, Boomtown, Dark Astoria, and Crey's Folly for some reason are all just Hazard zones though.
Yeah it doesn't make sense right now but it will once more Content is built into the game. -
Well they're not outright Denying the dissolution of the 5th Column so that pretty much guarantees that Political Correctness has won the war here. So Long 5th Column Story Arcs They weren't as interesting to me as Dev Earth and Lost mission, but I'm sure there's a lot of X-Men type fans who will really miss the whole Ultimate-Soldier deal. ...That and the Sentininels was probably the most interesting theme I've ever seen in Para-military plots and origins...
---------------
Oh yeah, the Ubelman one was really cool though, it really reminded me of the Justic League Ep with Lazarus. I think it's there's a lot of Romanticism in it and that's why people will miss the 5th Column so much -
the Problem with a lot of Hazard zones is that the Spawn Sizes are all pretty much the same size. Now Faultline is different because the Spawns are even bigger when you consider there's always a Boss or two in them. But look what's there... Clockwaork, Vahz, and CoT... That's basically Positron's TF and everyone HATES Positron's TF because the Risk just isn't worth the Reward.
Make the Spawns in Boomtown Small enough that a Duo or Trio could take on +1's/+2's and you'll see a real resurgence there. Make Street-Hunted Clockwork, Vahz, and CoT's start occaisionally Dropping Low Level DO's and SO's and you'll see some Major population increases in FaultLine. ...SuperSpeeders may even be Tempted to LEARN the pathing in that zone if that was the case. -
Ouch.
Crap.
Reading this thread just put a kink in my intelligence and lowered it atleast 30 points. Stop living up to the over-critical Comic no-lifer Fanboy Otuku whatever thing that probably lives in a basement --Archetype or Stereotype, or whatever.... or atleast post it in the culture forum. -

1. DA, Ice Armor, Stone Armor - the f/x are going throug a redo and the powers will be made stackable. I'll tell you when as soon as the schedule is solid.
2. The changes to Fear are being worked on now.
3. Tankers have top priority post Update 3 to get their increased mob control abilities. I'd love to tie this to some twinks to Controllers - so that both have a good role in mob management - but I can't make any promises about that in particular.
4. Many upper level villain groups will have the # of minions w/ a stun power decreased dramatically. More specifically: Carnival of Shadows, Malta. Sappers will one to a spawn, rather than a current maximum of two.
5. The massive AOE Alpha Strikes will be addressed shortly after Tankers get their due.
6. I do know that Unyielding Stance and its immobility is an issue. I'm going to be thinking about that a lot in the coming week.
Here's an Update on other things....
1. We're not changing anything imminently on Electricity Blast. But we know that many Blasters find that it's sub par.
2. After analysis, Scrappers CAN NOT reach the same levels of resistance as a Tank. Regeneration, though, is a small concern.
3. +1 level mobs are now appearing in the numbers that we had wanted in missions.
If you've got anything else you want an update on, feel free to post and I'll TRY to answer questions. Please don't ask things about future features...I'll be happy to communicate the status of the "big" questions that appear to come up over and over again.
