Quote:Not exactly what I meant. I don't want them "not particularly bright," I want to know if I can make them dark. You can color the beams, so you should be able to make them not particularly bright if you want. And web grenade isn't a bad power, if nothing else I love its huge -recharge debuff, comes in very handy sometimes. Another plus is it is useful with no extra slotting needed.
Another combo that should be good is beam/storm. Beam gives you -regen which is about the only debuff storm is missing, so it rounds it out nicely.
My comment regarding web grenade wasn't that it's a bad power, but that it's one that I just don't want first. It's on my traps/dark defender and it's great. I just take it a little later.
Storm isn't something I'd considered as a pairing...hmm... -
Traps! Fun, front loaded debuffs, disintegration and shooty shooty.
-
Thanks for the replies, folks!
Corruptor is what I'm leaning heavily to, along with traps as a secondary (although I hate having to take web grenade first...). Redraw has never really bothered me -- my first level 50 corruptor was DP/TA -- so set combinations that include a hefty amount of it haven't ever deterred me from playing them. I can definitely see how a combination like beam rifle and dark miasma/kinetics or any other really active set that you can't frontload with could be (somewhat) detrimental due to the mechanics of disintegrate, though.
One final question (for concept purposes): I've been scouring through video footage of beam rifle, and it's all very...bright. Are the animations of the beam rifle attacks similar to empathy in that they can only be bright, or can they be made darker, much like blast sets like rad blast and energy blast? -
-
Honestly, hoping for a dark primary/secondary combo. With all the dark sets currently available, putting one together for dominators shouldn't be all that difficult.

Quote:I would play a mastermind if this were real.Staff Fighting is actually the new MM set miexd with sonic:
1. yell at employees: foe -rez all
2. intern: basic pet, needs a lot of texting time
3. screem: pbaoe sonic
4. train lackey: pet upgrade
5. repremand: high damage sonic
6. secrataries: 3-5 pets
7. staff meeting: leadership-like uprade for entire staff +acc +def
8. manager high grade pet
9. Restructure: after long years of devoted service, "restucturing" causes general enragement +dam and randomly targetting an employee to be fired, sending your manager in a blind *RAGE* ending with self destruct -
Try elec/earth. Electric control is all sorts of dirty fun and the aura and sleep patch are going to let you get right in close to make smashy with those wonderful hammers.
-
Folks,
I be all sorts o' likin' my support characters. They're enjoyable, I have fun concepts to play with, and I'm useful by myself or in teams. To be support is good times...except when one is a mastermind (*glares*).
With the impending release of i21, I will make all kinds o' dirty with the beam rifle set. It looks delicious and I will make it mine. MINE! Only problem is, I don't know exactly which archetype I want to play as. I already know I want it to be a support character, so that immediately cuts out blasters (*spits*), leaving corruptor and defender as my choices. I wasn't playing the beta because of time constraints, hence my coming to you -- the people! I have yet to settle on a primary/secondary (currently debating between traps and dark miasma, although I'm leaning more towards traps), but between those two and the two archetypes, is there a combination that's going to superior in terms of overall utility and enjoyment?
Thank you! -
Besides the suggestions for alternate pools (or even archetypes), I would actually throw in the suggestion that you take dark blast as a secondary. The debuffs are helpful, and you get a little more control to keep both yourself and others alive.
-
I'll throw a vote in for elec/psi. Static field, conductive aura, chain fences, and drain psyche will usually come close to (if it doesn't outright) maul your opponents' end bars. Bosses and higher might require a second application, but still, they're helpless pretty quickly. You'll primarily be in melee range with this combo, and psi gives you two hard hitting melee attacks (one of which has knockback, but you can avoid this by using electric fence). It's all 'round a really good combo.
Instead of going with Mu mastery, I went with psionic mastery for the additional ghetto control -- psychic tornado and world of confusion. Link minds is a really nice, incredibly helpful team buff that makes folks love me, and indomitable will is extra handy for folks who haven't made permadom a priority. -
Psi for both of these. Such an amazing secondary...
-
Quote:I'm not sure I agree with your sentiments. In groups, I find elec control characters' roles changed from a "haha, you're sapped and totally my biotch!" to a "haha, you're slept/knocked down/confused so my friends can get the drop on you!" You just prioritize certain attacks once the initial strike is made by the team. And if you're in a group, odds are you're not running even con minions -- jolting chain's going to be incredibly useful just knocking things down, not around. This is one of my 'gripes' with Elec. Control....in medium to large (4-8 man) teams...elec. control usually doesn't contribute much. Most people have some sort of DoT so that negates the sleep (for the most part) and if the team is moving fast/defeating mobs fast then the end. drain is negated...and of course Jolting Chain isn't very useful to begin with.
I remember when I was playing my Elec/Fire Dom. in GR's beta and was like, "wow I really like all this end. drain, I can solo pretty safely/easily!"
Then I got into a team and was like, "wow....I'm pretty much useless...(except for my attacks and ST hold)."
*shrugs*
Go for what you want, an sgmate of mine likes the set so far -
-
If you're daring enough, you can try an elec/ta controller rather than going the dominator route (personally, I think it's a better dominator set, but I love it paired with trick arrow). The two sets synergize quite well, and when you get oil slick arrow, it's absolutely amazing. The pets can be somewhat annoying at times, but just up your difficulty a bit and your enemies stop flying around the screen because of jolting chain.
-
Explain the "snub" to me, and if you say, "Well, fortitude should be getting the same treatment as the shields!" I will reach through the internet and smack you for your stupidity.

Quote:No offense, but random post is really, really random. So I totally respec my Human PB build at lvl 32. I don't like how human pb works because there's just too many knockbacks.
I went with 95% Nova and Dwarf forms. I'll change these two forms depending on what the team wants. I am only lvl 32 but I tested a bit tonight and I like the results. I may get boring soon since there's only like 3 attacks for tanker form and 4 attacks for nova and you can't use anything else. T_T
What I don't like about tri-form is that 1. slotting becomes really tricky and I end up not being a good tanker, not a decent blaster...basically neither. 2. changing forms take time (why does it take so long to change from Nova to Tanker?
I figure if the strength of Kheldian is to change forms, then I might as well give them a try. I see Human form as a more versatile of the three but I find human PB very weak. After playing incarnate/alpha Fortunata, Bane and Soldier, I can't stand how weak pb human is. The lack of mez protection and damage and team buffs is just annoying and I absolutely hate solar flare's knockback. If they change it to knockdown or hell, even get rid of any knockback, then I'll like it 100% more. There's already enough knockbacks from other attacks.
I basically fully slot all Nova and Dwarf forms and take all human shields and put +psionic resistance stuff to help Tanker form. That's about it. It's really awkward because I can't use most of the powers in either forms. T_T
To Madamme Mayhem: I agree with Big_Soto, leadership will benefit you and your team immensely. I'd go with that over fighting. -
Dark/traps. So much fun, and the two sets work great together. PGT + Tentacles + Drones + Trops + Nightfall = blind, immobilized, weeping spawns of at least 0/+8 enemies.
-
Quote:I disagree that this would be described as "limited" in terms of contribution. I'd call this "adaptable."I was on my Grav/Storm last night on a very good team . . . and my contributions were somewhat limited. I used Wormhole a few times only because I had it and not because it served any useful function. 3 tanks on the team, and the best contribution I could make was dumping Freezing Rain constantly. I would throw up Lightning Storm and and then pick some foe outside of the group to attack with my single-target chain of GD-Crush-Propel.

I was excited for this -- really, really excited. I didn't know about it until someone mentioned it in game about thirty minutes before it actually started.
"An invasion? Of Praetorians? I get to smash?"
My heart was atwitter. I raced to the boards to read more about it. I was slightly disappointed to learn that it was a THREE HOUR event, but hey, I could always leave and come back if I had to, right?
Oh god no.
It started. My team rushed to Steele to face Nightstar and Siege -- two of the more lame Praetorians (but who were gifted wish shiny, shiny redesigns); I wanted to smash the ever-hideous Chimera -- only to be greeted with red text of doom ("IT'S A TRAP!" -- really? For real?), war walkers simply popping up, and some of the worst lag I've ever experienced in this game. Luckily, most of my attacks consist of me summoning my storm "pets" so I wasn't neutered as horribly as other players. It was still pretty bad, though -- about a four and a half minute recharge for powers that certainly have been reduced to much less than that.
We did learn a valuable lesson throughout the invasion, though -- the lag does not affect any players' ability to type:
"EVERYONE SPREAD OUT! IF WE'RE NOT IN THE SAME AREA WE WON'T GET LAG!!!!1" (Brilliant. You don't even deserve a golfclap for that logic)
"My powers work fine, they just take a long time to recharge. I don't know why they're doing that..."
"SPLIT LEAGUE!!! SPLIT LEAGUE!!!"
"Haha, you people on regular machines must be sucking so hard. I'm on <insert apparently amazing gaming setup here> and there's only a few seconds delay between activation."
"I don't know what killed me or when I was hit or what just happened!"
"y r dere so many ppl here?"
"Can I get a team invite?"
"team full"
"So can I get a LEAGUE invite, then?"
"wuts a league?"
And on and on and on and on...to infinity and beyond, but less cool.
I echo the above posters sentiments. Thanks for trying. Really, it's nice that you want to keep us engaged with new and exciting content. When that content is basically unplayable for ~50% of the players whose machines shriek, melt, and light the surrounding desk/lap/table on fire (perhaps an awful foreshadowing of what might one day happen to the servers if you push them too far :s ), though, well...it's just not good. I won't describe it as unnecessarily sucking the fun out of the game because that's an understatement -- it murders fun, brutally, and with many a hell-inspired torture instrument. After a while, I just got fed up, logged off, and went outside to lay on the lawn.
Edit: "The Praetorians are tunneling up under Talos!" <-- who thought this piece of fail up? Last I'd heard, Praetoria wasn't underneath Talos Island. Praetorian level 20s end up in Talos if they choose blueside, yes, but they come through a portal in a room that is mysteriously housed in the back of a truck. If they're porting underneath Talos (see: the ground), I would seriously hope that they were all just rampaging through the sewers and surging up through manholes. If not, absent the digging machines, they're porting into something solid. If Stargate has taught us anything, it's that using a portal that has the exit blocked by something solid results in something akin to "bugs hitting a windshield." -
Quick question (not to try and derail this thread):
Is it illusion trollers generally that are having these problems, or is it specifically illusion/rad? I'm about to start doing the trials with my illusion/storm troller, and a lot of people I run with actually seem fairly excited about my character getting into it. -
Now, for this set:
Quote:A little vague for my tastes, but the idea fits well with a dark theme. How much is "some of your health" and how much is healed? The amount sacrificed compared to the amount healed would have to be disproportionate to be worth anything, but in that case, the recharge would have to change to something longer. If you want to keep the recharge as is, the amount sacrificed and healed would have to be dropped substantially to levels approaching something similar to storm's O2 boost, but with maybe a bit more healed.
Visceral Essence
Dark Empathy – Your connection to the netherworld allows you to sacrifice some of your health to heal an ally. Dark Empathy also grants a boost to health and negative energy resistance of target ally. Recharge: Fast
Quote:Dire Drain – While you toggle this power, your recovery rate is lessened, but the target foe suffers a severe reduction to their regeneration and recovery. Dire Drain also affects foes in range of the target, causing them to suffer a reduction in their regeneration, but at a moderate level. The stronger the foe, the greater the strain on your recovery due to harder concentration on your part to maintain the drain. Recharge: Fast
Quote:Eye of the Ethereal – You channel the spirit of a specter into a target ally. This specter grants a boost to recovery, regeneration, damage, and defense. Since this specter is non corporeal, target ally suffers a huge penalty to accuracy as a result. Recharge: Very long
Quote:Negation – Target ally is infused with negative energy which causes a temporary phase into the netherworld. Target ally is infused with such a level of negative energy, negative status effects are cancelled out for a while. Negation also grants target ally with stealth and defense to negative energy and energy damage. Recharge: Slow
Quote:Essence Convergence – When you activate this power, you merge with the target foe linking of your essences. When you are attacked by the target foe, you only sustain 25% of the incoming damage, and the attacking foe will sustain 25% of the damage dealt as a response to attacking you. The longer this power is activated the more taxing on your endurance it becomes. Recharge: Long
Quote:Crossing the Divide – You are able to revive a fallen ally with Crossing the Divide. Revived ally is possessed with dark energy which increases the ally’s strength, resistance, and regeneration. Once the divide is crossed, the revived ally will become weakened for a short while, losing 50% health and endurance, as well as becoming disoriented for a short time. Recharge: Very long
Quote:Spirit Asylum – You use your powers over the ether to create a spirit asylum at a location in your area of effect. Each time a foe is defeated, the spirit of the foe is drawn to the asylum, and all allies in the area of the asylum receive a boost to their accuracy, damage, defense, recharge, recovery, and mez resistance. Recharge: Very long
Quote:Well of the Furies – When you activate this power, your powers cost no endurance for a long time. During the time this power is active, you also receive a great boost to the secondary effects of your powers. Recharge: Very long
Quote:Through the Mist – You summon a large mist of negative energy to the foes location. All foes caught in the mist are overwhelmed and suffer massive damage while in the mist. Movement speed and recharge of enemy attacks are severely reduced. Damage: Superior Recharge: Very long
I really like the idea for the sets (and holy god do I want some kind of dark sets for controllers) but you're basically creating tanks out of characters that aren't meant to be. Even without IOs and temps and procs, a lot of these powers by themselves are just so incredibly powerful that they don't even compare to any potential shortcomings the sets might have. -
Quote:Not what Local Man is saying at all. Control sets follow a pattern and, while there is slight variance, they can't veer too far off course. Just because you want to make it different doesn't mean go so far out of bounds, which, I agree with him, you appear to have done.Actually it makes sense just the way it is. This set isn't meant to be like every current set hence why I didn't make it the way you think it would make sense.
Quote:And? Ever heard of Petrifying Gaze?
Quote:How are they too much when I can easily log onto my Gravity Controller and use Crushing Field which basically does the same thing minus the -acc debuff.
Quote:You do realize that high damage for a Controller is like clicking on brawl. Freezing Rain has pretty much everything this power has except I made it a primary power rather than a secondary.
Quote:Good thing this power is NOTHING like Lightform. My description basically matches what Shadow Cloak or Steamy Mist are for Defenders and Controllers currently.
Quote:Ever heard of Mask of Feebleness?
Quote:Who cares if any other area of effect holds have this. This is NOT any other set. If I wanted to make a set like any other set then I wouldn't have even bothered. FYI Volcanic Gases is unlike any other hold, it holds and does damage and if I am not mistaken it also causes fear.
Quote:Its basically Power Build Up with a recovery buff. Its not in the wrong power set considering if you look at the effect of the power it boosts holds, immobs etc which ARE the main purpose of a Controller. There would not be any problems since Devs could easily make it so you couldn't select the Primal epic to stack them. Problem solved.
Quote:How do you figure? You make it seems like they would hit like a Blaster. Are the Shadow Imps that Black Swan uses overpowered? No. They die VERY easily.
Quote:Just looking at your breakdown you basically post one negative thing after another rather than making suggestions on changes. It almost seems like you have never played a Controller (although I know you have) because many of the powers in the set are basically similar to current Controller powers with slight tweaks here and there. Some have Defender aspects to them, but that isn't far from reality seeing as some Controller powers are also Defender powers too.
Quote:I know where it should, but I chose to post it here because this is where I wanted it. Just like Illusion Control I am looking at this as a Controller only set because personally I don't care for Dominators. -
Also keep in mind that trick arrow gives you a second targetted AoE hold. The set as a whole synergises quite well with elec control.
