Beam Rifle/what?

If I make one, it will likely be /rad. Been thinking about /sonic as well.

I played it with Time in beta and hated the combo. Basically, when you're trying to keep what you're shooting at Disintegrated, it really sucks to suddenly have to switch to doing something in your secondary.

I think dropping rad toggles -> blasting away would fit it best.

Though honestly, I need to see it in action a little more. My feeling in beta was that the highly touted single target damage wasn't even as good as Fire or Sonic, and if that's the case, I'm not going to bother.

I'm really considering Beam/Poison and going for a Hard Target Debuffer build. I know it's going to be really clicky, but I think it'll be worth the effort. I may also take the Power Mastery for Power Build Up. That would enhance the debuffs, right?

Traps! Fun, front loaded debuffs, disintegration and shooty shooty.

I'm going Force Field / Beam. (Boo, hiss, Defender!) But if I had the option, I'd go Beam / Force Field (yay Corruptor) since Beam works great with Corruptors.

"Why not Sonic?" Well, I've tried sonic in the past, and all it seems to do is get you killed slightly slower. Damage resistance on a character that's hardly a tank to begin with doesn't go a long way. Whether solo or trying to avoid taking fire on a team, I got mauled frequently on my sonic. And the endurance costs, man!

With Defense, from FF or from Traps or technically from Time, you can AVOID many shots entirely. You can also stack up the bonuses from Thunderstrike, Scorpion Shield, Manuvers, Steadfast, etc. I've got a FF/Beam build right here that's near softcap on S/L/Ranged and well past it on Energy. That means something which debuffs you simply doesn't land, too.

You can do the same thing with Traps as a Corruptor, and have a wild spray of other nice tools, to boot. If I didn't already have two trappers at 50 I'd run that, too. Kinda bored of traps now.

Storm. It'll be nice to finally be able to play storm and also be able to throw out some -regen, the one thing I always felt storm lacked. I tried bots/storm for the same reason, and it worked beautifully, but just have a hard time getting into MM's.

Yeah, those of you in this thread and the other that was linked, I have tested Beam/Poison, and it hits REALLY FREAKING HARD. Granted, that's with Venomous Gas turned on and using Envenom + Assault, and the damage is crazy with disintegration.

Venomous Gas however accepts a couple of set types or enhancement types that grant you nothing - namely -tohit and -defense.

I kinda want to make a Beam Rifle/Devices blaster version of my main, but she already has two versions. >.> I'm not sure if I want/need three of her running around.

Right now I'm looking at two options, one Defender, one Corruptor. Force Field/BR for Defender, and BR/Poison for Corruptor. I've never given either of the ATs a fair crack at things, never even had a corruptor past level 5.

Beam Rifle / Time Manipulation Corruptor

It makes for a GREAT science fiction-themed character. I already LOVE how time manipulation works, I imagine beam rifle (more like beam cannon) will be just as sweet! And since they've modified the travel powers, I think it's suffice to say, we now have one or two more powers available to us to choose from now on.

I'll be honest, I'm stupidly excited! I've already got the fixings for a gundam-themed character!

Another br/rad here they go together really well. BR has awesome burst damage but it's recharge is shockingly low.

Beam is HEAVILY recharge dependent.

Time actually works really well, you just have to plan accordingly.

Chrono makes it MUCH MUCH easier to permahasten which really increases the effectiveness of the nuke.

Probably Beam/Time or Beam/Traps, although more likely to go with /Time as I have a better concept/name in mind for that combo.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I'm trying a Beam/Cold big game hunter. High single target damage plus awesome single target debuffs, plus shields and some AoE debuffing to pull my weight on normal spawns.

I see nobody is looking to pair it with Kinetics. I've never played Corr's before but was thinking about trying Beam/Kin...

Should I maybe go with something else for reasons I'm unaware of?

I thought about Kinetics but I didn't think it meshed as well with Beam Rifle for two reasons:

1) Beam Rifle doesn't have a lot of mitigation and is single target focused, so a secondary that boosts survival seems to be the way to go. /Kin is great for damage but not so good at keeping you alive to deliver it.

2) Beam Rifle's only AoE that's actually available every spawn is a cone, so it plays best from range. /Kin needs to be in the middle of a spawn to get full benefit from Fulcrum Shift and needs to be close to an enemy to heal. I really dislike picking combos that force me to repeatedly jump back and forth between cone range and melee (that's why I skipped Fire Breath on my Fire/Fire Blaster and took Combustion instead). I'd much rather pair /Kin with a primary that has PBAoE or targeted AoE attacks.

Beam/Kin would probably be a great team build but I just think it would be annoying to solo with and I like to be able to solo well.

I did it with /Devices as a Blaster. Now I've realized I have a couple more server slots than I thought I did, so I'm trying to decide between /Traps and /Poison for a Corruptor. I expect the former will be more survivable, while the latter will be absolutely murderous (to them, not me) in hard-target fights.

As a complete incompetent goob when it comes to builds, does anyone have a build for a beam/poison I can pilfer?

I rolled a Beam/Kin earlier tonight and I've been having fun with him, not bad at all. One suggestion, Take Siphon Speed and slot it for recharge fast, it's immensely useful for Beam Rifle.

I also don't really mind the whole back and forth thing, Disintegrate target, cutting beam, kill Dis. target, transfusion when others run toward you, re-distance self. Rinse. Repeat. And this is on a lv 10, later levels will only get better.

50Soulsunder: DM/Regen Scrapper
50Limitshift: EM/WP Brute
Victoria Nox: Dark/Dark Dominator
And about 5 others that change constantly...

I surprised no one has mentioned /dark. I have never really gotten into it, but I know it's supposed to be good survivability and seems to work well at range.

I was thinking of rolling a beam/dark when I come back from out of town, but maybe I missed something.

Edit: ignore 4 year old sig.

I've been running a Beam/Traps (21 so far), and I'm loving it. The front loaded nature of Traps gives me plenty of time to pew pew, and it's a strong set overall. Also I figure Trip Mine will help compliment the single target nature of Beam. And both sets benefit from chasing +rech.

I've also made a Beam/Sonic, but he's only level 10 so far, so I've less of an impression of how he's going to turn out. I don't expect it to be as strong as the Beam/Traps, as Sonic's just not as good a set, but I think it should still work out nicely. I probably won't try to solo with him much though.

I also rolled a beam/traps corr. It is almost lvl 25 and is really fun so far. I've been taking all the blasts just to be able to try them out. Seems like one of the first two will need to go when piercing hits, but maybe not with the high recharge.

Really wish mids would update, would like to start messing around with builds already. But I will probably skip most PL action and play TFs for the commander accolade, as ive never played traps, and of course beam is new to everyone.

Also, 4 hour downtime, on a saturday afternoon??? you gotta be kidding me.

With /Sonic it changes completely when you pick up Sonic Dispersion. There are several advantages of the FFG from Traps over Sonic Dispersion, but in the long run I prefer Sonic Dispersion over FFG.
