Blappinator?
Try elec/earth. Electric control is all sorts of dirty fun and the aura and sleep patch are going to let you get right in close to make smashy with those wonderful hammers.
Talen_Lee: Taking absorb pain is like branding 'H' on your forehead. Which stands for 'Failure'
Scarf_Girl: ever since I six slotted my Rp with cyber/emo Hami-O enhancements they haven't been able to touch me
*/elec: 2 melee attack + air superiority (+ build up)= melee attack chain + soft control
Primary:
-elec, ice for defensive paboe or fire for offensive pbaoe.
-any strong control primary.
Electric/* seconded.
The sleep and the confuse make melee safe, and the aura rewards melee by buffing regen and recovery. My dom has had zero endurance issues almost from day one. Conductive Aura also drains endurance so anything awake and not punching its neighbour will be drained and slapping at you ineffectually with Brawl. I went with elec/eng for the stuns.

Ice/
Elec/
Paired with:
/Earth
/Energy
/Elec
are all fine choices
/thorn is also good and has a lot of AoE. It animates too slow for my taste though.

I ended up rolling an Elec/Earth, for basically the reasons already listed. Plus, I decided to go for an 'elemental' theme, so it worked out quite well
One thing I noticed, though, is that in the character creator, in the 'real numbers' for Synaptic Overload, it says that the confuse duration wobbles between somewhere around 25 and 30, going from 25 to 30 and dropping down multiple times as you level up... is the power actually bugged and the duration drops down at various places as you level up? Or are the real numbers just buggy? Or is that actually just a weird mechanic and actually intended?

Mind/Energy dom, can solo easy most foes on +4 by the teens. Lots of control, and heavy hitting single attacks. Solo is a beast, its fun on teams too.
Spec
mind/earth is fun too..standard group of three...mez one, dominate the other the third target lev. and hammers bigger groups mass hypnosis start locking down while killing mez. last a longgggg time right out of the box

Another fun combo is Ice/Thorns. Ice likes being in close for Arctic Air and it goes pretty well with Thorns.
Thorns does have some slow animations but the Cone attack is the most melee friendly thanks to it's wide angle and quick animation and Skewer is quick animating too. Plus you get Aim, which is nice for a bit of Spike Damage. All of your attacks can slot the Achilles Heel Proc as well.
The downsides are that the PBAOE takes an age to animate (hits hard though), your Tier 2 Blast uses that "pitching a baseball" animation and you have to wait til 35 and 38 to get your last two attacks and it's mostly Lethal with a side order of Toxic DoT.

The cone in Thorns is great, because all you have to do to hit most foes is to jump straight up and use it, no need to reposition due to wide arc.
I can't advocate Elec/Thorns combo due to thorns DoT damage. It has the nasty tendency to wake slept mobs. I know the Elec sleep is a pulse but still, you don't need that kind of trouble. Fire/Thorns is a nice pairing IMHO.

I'll second elec/earth. It just sounds amazing
Ice/Thorns..
seriously.. thank me later..
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
Another vote for Elec/Earth. It almost feels like playing a Brute, except Elec has beautiful control.
Wild Streak - Lv. 50(+3) Beast Mastery/Sonic Resonance Mastermind, Amnesty - Lv. 50 Staff Fighting/Dark Armor Stalker
Solo'd the RSF with /earth. 9 hours on 1 toon? Damn well BETTER be fun. Do it. Or you'll hate yourself.
I got a elec/thorn.. I enjoy it... I am thinking about making a fire/thorn thou
Elec/Psi. At low levels you can probe/tk (fight at +1 so mobs dont get knocked back) and sit in the middle of the sleep and suck up regen/recov with aura. You can point blank dart or the other ranged attack if you want to; it does about the same damage as probe. You also get DP at low/mid level, which really enables survivability in melee range, and psiwave after that, which seeing as you are already in melee range, makes for a great psiwave/probe/tk/psiwave/probe/tk attack chain with enough recharge. You need a LOT of recharge though. Waking things up with psiwave is a nonissue because with enough -end mod in your aura, by the time you get to it mobs are already drained and can only whiff at you with something weak. Then they go back to sleep.
I've done all sorts of doms, and elec/psi/ice stands by far as the most smashiest brute like control freak of a monster ever.

I'm in the mood to roll up another dominator, and this time I'm wanting something on the Blappery side. In the past I've played a Fire/Fire (39), Mind/psi (45), and Plant/Psi (45), although nothing in the last year+.
If you're wanting to go melee heavy, what Dom secondaries can provide that experience? Is /Earth really the only one that you can reasonably go all out with the Melee attacks without having to resort to ranged attacks at point blank?
To add to that, do any of the primaries have any extra synergy with a melee centric dom playstyle?
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
