Traps

No, but I read into the dead silence and meaningful looks by the live chat devs when someone mentioned dark miasma for controllers....

I can hope at least.

If Traps ever gets 'ported over to Controllers, expect to see a LOT of Grav/Traps Controllers. The idea of Wormhole onto a pile of Trip Mines is just sick.

I agree Grav/Traps would be fun and has great synergy. Just about the slowest way to defeat a spawn though... Great soloist. I think I'd like to try Electric/Traps. Get in close with all the overlapping controls and Trap it up. More of a Team-y build I think.

Grav, Ill, Plant, and Mind I think will all play well with /traps.

I'd go with Elec, Fire, or Ill.

It's a neat party trick, but on high level teams I've found my similiar trick of Wormholing onto an Oil Slick / Disruption Arrow combo just interferes with everyone else. High level teams just steamroll too quickly.

If it does happen I'll be trying an Elec/Trap I think. Drawback would be that Trops and Acid Mortar will interfere with the sleep patch, with the mortar being the biggest drawback.

Maybe time bomb would be worth taking

It *is* worth taking. It gives a big enough bang that most of any spawn will be dead and cleaning up any Bosses or Lieutenants left over becomes a breeze when solo. It's a different matter on teams, of course.

On the other hand, if Controllers got Traps they might just get Detonator instead. It's a little clunky, but if you manage to spot your pet about to die with enough time (2s?) to cast it, Detonator can do wonderful things.

I'm thinking Not a Chance, even if it would work with control set pets.

It'd be clunky at best, and highly favor sets with multiple pets, since losing a single fire imp is far less detrimental to your performance than say, blowing up your Jack.

I was on my Grav/Storm last night on a very good team . . . and my contributions were somewhat limited. I used Wormhole a few times only because I had it and not because it served any useful function. 3 tanks on the team, and the best contribution I could make was dumping Freezing Rain constantly. I would throw up Lightning Storm and and then pick some foe outside of the group to attack with my single-target chain of GD-Crush-Propel.

Which pretty much sums up Gravity - all of the best powers are in your secondary.

L50s: Tanks: Cryofission - Ice/EM - Dr Celsius - Fire/Ice - Saint George - SD/SS | Controllers: Psichosis - Ill/Kin - Major Chaos - Ill/Stm | Scrappers - Neutron Crusader - DM/SR

Currently Levelling: Angelic Blade - BS/WP Scrapper | Seeds of Destruction - Plant/Kin Controller

I disagree that this would be described as "limited" in terms of contribution. I'd call this "adaptable."

Trip mine with controllers would be unbalanced. Controllers aren't supposed to have direct damage abilities as good as that.

If they put "Helpless Kitten--A little kitten meows 10 times, causing a slight tohit debuff in observers" in place of trip mine, it would be okay for controllers to get it.

Well, what do you call Oil Slick Arrow? Lightning Storm? Tornado?

The glaring issue with Traps is Illusion Control. Why? Because Traps offers both Containment and a huge -Regen debuff in the same package. So picture all those Illusion/Cold trollers except doing double damage all of the time. And soft capped to every position. With perma mezz protection from Hold, Stun, and Immob. And. Yeah.

The only real glimmer of hope may be the fact that the trial AVs are basically immune to controls. Or maybe the devs are smoking crack.

If I had to pick a "most likely" set for prolif it would be Pain Domination. It's just the easiest choice by far.

Dark Miasma is also possibility if they somehow handle the overpoweredness of the Fear cone stacking with Mind and Illusion control powers. In the past I've suggested switching the cone out for a 12ft radius version of Cloak of Fear instead, which would offer synergies with many more sets if they choose to take advantage of it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see further proliferation once Freedom launches as unlockables in the Paragon Store.

I call them not as reliable damage for a controller as trip mine. Trip mine is easy AOE damage and its only restriction is that you need high def and/or to have the mobs controlled...oh wait...I think that isn't a problem for controllers.

They could do bring it, but it would unquestionably be unbalanced to my mind.

How about Detonator as a long recharge St hold that turns your held target into a ticking time bomb? Like a Sticky Mine.

Maybe replace Tripmine with an Oil Slick mine.

/Traps for Controllers...just seems wrong...it's like playing a Thug/Demon Mastermind. Not only could a /Traps controller hold everything FOREVER they could easily wipe out spawns...*shudder*.
