What would you pair with Plant/ and Electric/ ?

In contemplating a Dominator I'm looking at Plant/ Primarily and Electric/ Second; wondering what I should pair with each, and then which one to make first ?

Well, with Plant you ideally want good AoE; /Fire, /Thorns and /Psi all mesh well. Although any of the secondaries work.

For Electric there's /Electric for more endurance drain, /Energy and /Earth for good single target damage and Power Boost, and /Psi for Drain Psyche which neuters their recovery.

There is only one thing to pair with Elec. Psi. Just be prepared for a slog to 50. However, if you fight solo 0/2, or spend time in groups, you can do pretty well with your melee attacks and whatnot. 10 thumbs up.

this confuses me, even with the addition of the end game content, the "GAME" is still the journey to 50, if the combo you mention is THAT BAD from 1-50, wouldn't that mean it's NOT a great combo to try?

Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

screw your joke, i want "FREEM"

sorry this is a raid game now, the "GAME" now starts once you reach 50 and start incarnate stuff

plant/ pairs well with thorns, but IMO /thorns kinda under performes compared to other sets. I would go with/fire or /psi for the plant. I have no clue on the elec/ since I dont have one.

The "GAME" is what ever you desire it to be.

For you the game is 1-50. For others 1-50 is the waste of time required to be able to play a toon that doesn't suck.

I would think most folks fall somewhere in the middle but either viewpoint is valid since it is after all your own personal enjoyment we are talking about here.

You have gotten pretty good advice on plant/* so far - the three secondaries suggested already are all going to be great with plant, so I will focus on electric control.

Electric control relies on its AoE sleep patch for initial control and conductive aura's end drain as the followup control, with some extra control added via chain knockdown and confuse. A lot like ice control, with arctic air, you are going to need to be in melee/close range to drain end, so secondaries with good melee damage, pbaoe damage and some way to supplement the end drain are going to be beneficial. So, the most synergistic secondaries are likely to be psionic assault, ice assault and earth assault.

Psionic assault gives you drain psyche, which will not only boost your end and healing but will floor your targets end recovery, making your end drain very effective. It also has the best pbaoe damage power in the game, psychic shockwave, and 2 fairly good melee attacks. The drawbacks to psi assault is that the pbae comes very late, so you will have to rely on psychic scream for AE damage until L38, and cones don't mesh as well with with conductive aura. Finally, the second melee attack, TK Thrust, has a lot of KB and will tend to knock things out of your end drain aura.

Ice assault is a nice middle of the road set for electric control. It offers good melee damage (ice sword + ice slash) and you get a decent pbaoe attack (ice sword circle) quite early on. You also get power boost, which will boost your end drain considerably while its up. The only real drawbacks is that icy assault really IS middle of the road - it doesn't really excel at anything.

Earth assault is very melee focused. It is pretty much the single target damage king of dominator secondaries and offers probably the best damage + control power you can get: Seismic smash, with a mag 3 hold (mag 6 with domination). It also offers power boost to help with end drain. Its area damage is pretty sad though, tremor is basically the worst pbaoe attack that dom's get and fissure is ok, but not great. You can supplement the AE damage with mud pots but it has a very small radius (8') and will wake up mobs in the sleep patch.

From the main forum the thread title displayed as "What would you pair with" and my immediate thought was fire. Then I actually read the thread. I would still do plant/fire (although thorns is conceptually similar I highly discourage it. I have one and have come to the conclusion: I hate thorns) but instead of my first reaction (/fire) for electric I'll join in suggesting psi.

Linea -- Plant/Fire/Fire is crazy good, the brute of Doms. Starts strong and stays so. You could go Plant/Fire/Ice for Sleet and S/L def, but honestly Embrace of Fire plus Fireball/ROF is insanely good (plus Roots to hold them all in the burning mayhem).

Here's an older build -- I've subsequently re-slotted Roots for damage and procs (Posi Blast and procs).

I took the single target immobilize on my Elec/Psi in part to deal with that problem; unlike the AoE immobilize it has -kb.

Psi for both of these. Such an amazing secondary...

I have two Elec Doms.. one /Elec and one /Psi.

I like them both a lot.

Psi is not so bad at lower levels. Also I disagree. /Stone goes very well with elec.

While I agree /psi is amazing (I went to 50 with my ice/psi before the dom changes without stamina and running arctic air 24/7 because of D.Psyche, and in my 40s I was spamming PSW in the middle of romans with no defense besides AA because of the instant-healing levels of regen fom DP) this is like saying 'if you play a blaster go /MM or /EM the others fall below'. And Doms have great secondaries, even if you think they are not as good as psi (I myself am on the fence too, I'm sick of psi but I don't think there's a better secondary to min-max)

It's only one phase, but I don't like using psy damage at low levels on skyraider jumpbots, council/5th mechmen, (or Rikti drones). The only thing I would avoid on Elec/? doms would be a secondary power with a long DoT like combustion, but fire works, too.

I made a elec/thorn... that im thinking would be a lot of fun

Elec, Thorn is fun . I think Electric is amazing with /Icy Assault.

In the future though, I am hoping with all my soul that there will be a solo path to the incarnate goodies. It might be rocky, and full of thorns, but that would be ok as long as there is such a path...sorry, just had to plead my heartfelt wishes before leaving this thread

Nah. While the dev team's concentrated on 50 for a bit, you've still got to *get* there... and the path can be a great deal of fun. Or, at times, frustration, admittedly (thinking of Masterminds, 18-23, vs Scrapyarders... bloody demolitionists.)

It's good that 50 isn't a dead stop as far as progress, with the incarnate stuff. But try to enjoy the entire trip.

They've added pre-50 Task Forces, and are about to revamp several low level zones and implement a new round of Powerset Proliferation. We've just had a pair of Issues heavy on the new Incarnate content; that doesn't make the game all about raiding at 50 any more than Issues 6 and 7 meant the game was all about villains.
