WoW Refugee Community?

Mrs. Moo has been threatening for some time to download Warcraft. NCSoft gave her the bullet-proof excuse she needed.

I have very little interest in raiding or large guild building or things of that nature. WoW's character customization is... painful... compared to even Champions Online.

However, they do have a lot of soloable or duoable stuff to explore and a fairly huge tradeskill system. They also seem to be implementing Pokemon in-game.

Yeah, didn't expect that. I'm playing Platinum and White right now and will probably pick up Black2 in a couple weeks. Why not train my WoWemon while I'm at it. They'll even have gym leaders... er... master pet trainers. *sigh* Leafy the combat squirrel is cute, but he's no Gardevoir(m).

Is anyone aware of global channels or hangouts for CoH refugees in the Azeroth universe?

Here's continued hope that NCSoft relents or someone manages to buy them out.

I just know Co Refugee Channel is CoX and i rather be over there then in WOW right now.

Last time I played WoW I'd noticed a CoH clan/guild. Can't recall what their name was, though.

I've considered giving Pandaria a try, but every time I give WoW a chance I find I can't play it for very long without getting annoyed by the tedium. Back near launch I couldn't play for more than 14 levels or so. When I went back some time after the New Elf and Other Tauren (whatever they were called) were released I found I could get up to 27 or so before getting fed up. Maybe with the new expansion I'd find I could get up to the 40s...

Ah. The Pandaren Panda-People of Pandaria. Blizzard aren't even trying any more, are they?

And aren't they Kung Fu Panda-People as well?

FWIW, the Pandaren have been part of WC lore since at least WC3. Possibly earlier, I wouldn't know. That's way before Kung Fu Panda.

WoW is likely the only MMO still out that I will never touch. Ever.

The Pandaren were first announced as an April Fools joke before the release of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos in 2002, appeared as a non-playable Creep type in the actual game, and then became playable Heroes in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne in 2003.

Kung-Fu Panda came out in 2008.

I guess you could call them a ripoff of Kung-Fu Panda, if you assume that time travel is involved.

Pfft. Pandas have been doing kung fu (or, at least, a variety of martial arts that incorporates various styles of kung fu) since at least the late 80s.

Why not? WoW has already used time travel to invent everything they snatched from everywhere else. The police box spin both ways, you know.

Like as not, the success of Kung Fu Panda probably played some part in the decision to focus on Panda land for the Pandaland Expan(da)sion.

It's subtle, so I might have missed it, but there's this vague hint that the Pandaren from Pandaria might be panda-themed. Any truth to that rumour?

WoW can be fun, there are a lot of quests and other content.

I've played WoW for 5 years, led a top end raiding guild for a year and I'm not going back. I only found CoH after leaving WoW and having tasted the amount of control you have over your character, I can't go back to being a Tauren Druid.

I racechanged my Shammy to Panda. I regret nothing.

Had a similar experience. When they did that thing where a subscriber could get you auto-leveled to 80, I jumped on it.....and uninstalled after a day of tedium.

I am trying hard to stay strong and never go back.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

IIRC, the original Pandarians from the old RTS Warcraft days (which never actually appeared apart from some static artwork I can't find any more) looked NOTHING like the current Kung Fu Pandarians do.

There is a design difference between the 2002 Pandaren and the 2012 (and the differences are no more extreme than the other races in WC3 compared to WoW), but neither one looks like Po.

Most notably, the Pandaren are wearing Chinese robes, hats, and armor, while Po is wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. The Pandaren also have hair and even beards.

I don't think you need Mists to play Pandaren, they are unlocked for everyone so you can still do vanilla content to 60 and get expacs as you need whilst playing Pandas.

Also Draeni look awful with monk animations as their legs look like they will snap when they shift their weight during kicks.

Frankie says it best.

I'm not as concerned about pandas as I am about monks..dont you need the expansion for monks? as for the legs, i'll deal, i suffered through using the hideous looking hammers in amalur just to use a shoddy looking kick attack, i want my martial arts dangett :P

78 WoWettes (final levels) and growing

Almost caught all 100, or rather 90. The last 10 are hidden/special quest pets only.

WoW's deep questing system does indeed have a lot to offer soloing and small groups. The Cataclysm expansion introduced a lot of zone-wide linear quest chains, but MoP's scenarios hold a lot of promise for content that's somewhere between solo questing and raiding.

As for professions - and making money off them - the WoW economy is considerably more robust than CoH's. Although it's based on short-term auctions rather than consignment, ebil marketers can still have their fun manipulating it.

The pet battle system actually looks pleasantly diverting for a mini-game. As usual for Blizzard, its simple system yields further challenges as players delve deeper into its mechanics. Thankfully, trial accounts will not be able to access it, and even newbies will find its 100 gold entrance fee a little steep, so there's little chance it will overwhelm the regular game.

Not that I'm aware of, although that's a bright idea. I'm on the PVPRP server Twisting Nether (US), which is a nice little community that CoHers would probably find congenial.

I am on Shandris US PVE but none of my rl friends play anymore so I would be willing to xfer if there was an actual CoH guild or what not on a server.

I played a Human Blood Deathknight up to 85 and raided with my wife's guild as off-tank then main-tank for while. I got absolutely bored of "let's hammer our heads against a wall for 4 hours tonight and see if we can beat this boss and maybe the random number generator will give me that one piece of gear that I'd like to have" after about a month.

And after playing Diablo 3 for only 3 weeks, I totally regret signing up for the Annual Pass.

If there's one thing I'll miss about CoH, it's having multiple ways to get "that one piece of gear".

Actually, the backstory for WC2, circa 1995, was the first mention of Pandaren IIRC. Nevermind Kung Fu Panda, Pandaren almost predate Pixar.

WoW is like smoking. You know it is bad for you and you have to kick the habit.

Actually, in all seriousness - I am avoiding the expansion. I tried getting back into wow every now and then when the expansions came out and each time I found myself bored. CoH has only now let me down by being canceled.
