Shutting Down the Forums Prior to November 30th
Paragon City Search And Rescue
The Mentor Project
Hate to say it but now that NCsoft has posted an update on the front page, I think the days are numbered for these forums (as soon as September 30th).
I think the barrage of emails sent to NCsoft executives recently shocked the **** out of them - and now they're wise to folks using these forums to get organized. Kill the forums but leave the front page up and they'll eliminate the centralized voice being used by we, the protesters.
If you haven't found a *new* CoH forum community by now, I suggest you find one soon.
I really need to know the exact date of the forum shut down so I know when I post what I think Lighthouse can suck on and post my playernotes file.

Rock, rock on Hamster.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
The forum shutdown date is likely to catch us off guard, without warning, and it will do no good for us to seek that information from NCSoft in advance (they will not answer).
So it's better to be proactive. I recommend we pressure the Titan Network to send out a Call to Action to abandon these forums completely, as an undivided community, on or before the moment they're shut down, and move all discussions to the Titan Network forums. You might THINK everyone assumes this coarse of action already, but do not underestimate the thousands of current and former players who are too busy with work, family and life in general to read everything that gets posted here (or just playing the game instead of reading the forums). These players will be left out in the cold if the forums are shut down without warning.
We can do this in a way that causes NO interruption for our community, but we need the Titan Network to give us the signal.
I REALLY think this is the best way to handle things, otherwise we risk splintering the forum community before the game even shuts down. That will not be optimal during a time when people will need a place to come lay their baggage and/or continue to organize themselves and keep in touch moving forward.

NCSoft is well aware that they can make all of this go away if they sit down and negotiate nicely and let someone else buy/maintain CoH.
They assumed we would go away when they said "End of game", take their credit-on-another-game and go away quietly.
We did not.
They assumed we would go away when a week had passed.
We made more noise.
They assumed we would go away when two weeks had passed.
We are still making noise.
They assume we will go away if they give us real money back. Some people want to do that. But this is a game of Stare Down and they just blinked.
We need to start showing them that we are just more than a bunch of game-dweebs who don't know how to do anything but whine.
Go to CoH Titans Save Paragon. We have work for you.

Doesn't a negotiation require having an interested and engaged seller? What we have is a bunch of pleading, begging and toothless threats. I'm not sure that counts as a "negotiation."

The devs have said that there are discussions going on in the background between the management of Paragon and NC Soft (and "investors" - their words, not mine) that we're not privy to, at least one celebrity player has made a direct offer to NC Soft (free advertisment for at least five years if they don't shut the game down), and, to move from certainties to rumors, a major board/card game company owner (and CoH player) may have offered to buy the game outright and rehire as much of Paragon Studios as he could to continue running and developing it. This game has been around for nearly a decade and has attracted more than just kids and working stiffs as players. There are big-name players with the resources, influence, and backing to keep the game running, if NC Soft is willing to play ball.
As I've said before, we, the players, are not the Big Guns in this whole thing. We're the ammunition that the Big Guns can use against NC Soft, to help convince them to play ball.

They are going to prior to the November 30th shutdown, Zwill already mentioned that. We just don't have an exact date.
|
Thanks
I'm not saying Zwill didn't say that, but could you post a link to it? I think I missed it and I'd like to take a look for myself. It most likely means I missed some other information as well.
Thanks |
Took me a bit, it was about ten pages back.

I can see why you were thinking that they would go down before 30th November, but there is nothing in that post to suggest that they *will* go down before November 30th...
I fully expect the forums to last until the final day of the game, when they finally switch everything off at the same time.
Couldnt find a place to put this post - just met up with a friend havent seen for a few months - she plays computer games but not much mmorgs so I was suprised when I mentioned CoH she has heard of the Campaign on face book etc keep spreading the news it is being noticed in the wider world

When the company is trying to shut the game down, sending the message that they are afraid of players talking to each other is not going to make players back down. And unless they shut down the game early too, they won't even have removed the primary method by which players communicate.
Also, I haven't yet seen anything on these forums that poses the slightest credible risk to NCSoft's interests, and certainly nothing that would go away if these boards weren't here. Having the boards up just keeps whatever players are plotting nice and centralized and easy to figure out.
