Shutting Down the Forums Prior to November 30th

Given the threats to their business, the advertisements of competitive games and the general negativity being generated on the boards, what reason does this company have to keep these forums going. If they were shut down NOW, any organized attempts at generating a negative ad campaign or boycott would be severely hampered. The few posters - compared to the player base numbers - could try to organize on facebook or someother site, but that would most likely have little success.

So again I ask, why shouldn't this game just pull the plug on these forums - keep the rest of the COH site up but just place a "down for maintenence" sign on the forums?

They are going to prior to the November 30th shutdown, Zwill already mentioned that. We just don't have an exact date.

I know what we could do.

Say nothing.

Don't voice our displeasure at the actions of NCsoft.

We could just roll over and continue to buy NCsoft products as well ... as if nothing had ever happened.

That'll work - right?

If NC's reaction is to silence the boards before addressing certain concerns, that would be terrible.

Hint: try reading the last sentence - it is a question. Usually the point of a question is an answer.

My guess is whatever negotiations are going on to save the game involve keeping things pretty much frozen in place until the deal is either completed or abandoned.

AFTER everything is settled and we hear a positive result I'd guess these forms will be archived and new ones will be created.

If we hear a negative result my guess is these boards will stick around right up until the final day. In games past they have left the boards up right till the end. There's no guarantee of that but it wouldn't surprise me.

Much of the organization seems to be happening through other avenues already.

And has been since very shortly after the announcement. The OP apparently hasn't been around much at all the last several weeks if that is news to him.

Titan Network, Unleashed and a few other boards have already taken up this mantle. I'm just waiting to hear what Zwillinger has heard regarding our subs and such and then I'm going to move on.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

So it would not hamper any organized efforts if these boards were taken offline? Unbelievable

These boards are basically living on borrowed time.

We all know that.

The existence of the boards is not necessary for ongoing efforts to salvage something from the situation.

Most people come here to give their observations - some come here to troll and rub salt into wounds.

If the CoH forums go down we have:

The Titan Network’s Save Paragon City forum where all efforts are consolidated.

#SaveCoH #SaveCoX often trending on Twitter.

Numerous Facebook Groups: I miss City of Heroes, Save City of Heroes, City of Heroes Can not Leave, Save Our City of Heroes, and many others.

The main City of Heroes Facebook and Google+ pages (are there any Google+ SaveCoH pages?)

The petition at Change.org that is nearing 19,000 signatures (keep them coming!)

Quite a few Media Articles including one iReport vetted by CNN (and the comments left at all of these)

Numerous Videos and other campaigns…

The SaveCoH drive is going strong and even if they take the main CoH forum down, it will not stop us. We won’t give up.

We are heroes. This is what we do.

So I can assume you have no answer to the question asked.

It would appear that even the most passionate amongst us about this game and the community here on the boards will not say these forums provide a service that should be recognized as something positive.

Because the concerns you're posting about aren't going to be addressed if the forums shut down. That doesn't mean they can't shut them down before hand, but there's really no telling what they're going to do considering the lack of communication we've had up to this point.

Now, why would someone choose to title their thread in such a way as to imply that the forums will indeed be shut down before the 30th? This isn't really the best time to use sensationalism to get people to ready your thread.

When you go to the petition page is says 6,000 more are needed. Needed for what? Couldn't find the information on the site.

On the Titan forums (linked at least twice above) there is discussion on how to save them at the moment. There's a LOT of knowledge on here at least worthy of archiving. If they will continue in another format is hard to say right now.

It's the way the change.org petitions work to drive numbers. There is no upward limit or "we must have this number"... when the number of signatures reaches a certain threashhold, the number "needed" adjusts to the next one. Current threshhold is 25,000. Not sure what the next one will be.

Regardless, the more we have the more we can show "this is the impact you have made not just here but in the gaming industry with your actions." It's a show of solidarity.

Read the comments, it's a show of community.

Would have to disagree with your conclusion given the number of views received in such a short amount of time and the number of informative posts written. There is some good information being presented that a lot of people may be seeing for the first time. Sorry if you don't feel this information should be shared - and that is your perogative (sp?) - but I and others posters share different thoughts on the matter.

Please go play forum police elsewhere.

Ah, thanks for that information. That is actually a good marketing tool. BTW if I wanted to sign it more than once, would I have to change login names or anything like that? Thanks in advance.

While I thank your dedication to help drive numbers, the SaveCoH Organization (are we that organized yet?) do respectfully request you only sign the petition once.

Check the Titan forums for other ways to support the campaign, and, most of all... most importantly...

Continue playing the game.

If anything, that would further prove my point. You make a thread title that would make people think the thread is going to inform them that the forums have an earlier shut down date. Of course there going to come in here to see what's up. Let's not use misleading titles in hopes of charging up people's emotions. There's been plenty of that already.

I can see how that would undercut the integrity of the poll if people did vote mulitple times (like on American Idol).

I will do what you request . . . and yes, I will definately continue playing the game.
