...Yes, But Will You Miss the Blue Caves?

Ok I won't miss the blue caves much. Except in my nightmares. Never play Blue Cave missions when you are ill just before retiring to your bed!

I'd play CoH at this point even if keeping it around meant everything got turned into a size-approriate form of the layer cake room.

Blue caves were but a minor annoyance compared to that GIANT room in the arachnos maps. It had to be the biggest room in game (outdoor instances aren't rooms). Even worse, having to escort an aggressive NPC. Inevitably they'd fall something like 10 stories and you'd have to go down and find them, hope they survived the archnos/longbow they fell into. Grrr, I really won't miss that room.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

I'm not going to miss the blue cave maps. I memorized their layout (even the layer cake room) very quickly, but those maps were designed to kill my brain.

The above mentioned giant Arachnos room is also one I will not miss.

The only thing in coh I hated enough I'd celebrate its death was early Hollows and the devs fixed that one years ago.

There are a number of things I've taken issue with in this game over the years, and were the game itself still going on I wouldn't miss any of those things if they were individually removed. But with the whole game suddenly going away I will miss even those things I didn't care for.

This, so much this.

I would play through an original Positron's Task Force worth of blue caves if it would save Paragon.

For me, the big annoyance was always Perez Park. Low level, missions in the maze section, and if the map patch was around then I wasn't aware of it. A pity, because Perez is quite cool in some ways as well.

Hell! I'm planning on hiding out in one of the layer cake rooms so the game can't end till they find me!

Putting in my two cents on the blue caves... or the small twisty passage caves in general.

I *never* minded them. Ever.

Until I made Thing of Bigness.... And now I get it.

Those who don't know... take the biggest single item in the character generator for every category.. shoes, gloves, wings... and apply them. Heck, even the biggest Wolf tail is on this monstrosity. I got the punkin' head on him too, and it's all flamey.

I love that character. Except in the caves.

I made an alternate... after the Swimsuit invasion of Mako, where this 8 foot tall giant was revealed to be... a 5 foot or so skinny kid in a power suit (who did NOT take off his punkin' head, by the way) I changed that again to a sleeker costume... just for the caves.

And now, again, I don't mind them.

---

The layer cake was rather easy. I just ran around in a counter-clockwise circle, and the ramps would present themselves. As I was pretty much a 'NOTHING SURVIVES" kind of player... this worked well.

I thankfully figured that out pretty quickly on in a solo mission or two... the "Oh, that's how you do it" moment. (I'm sure you all did too.) Until I figured that out... yeah, THOSE rooms sucked a metric TON of <insert whatever foul material you need to here... I suspect 90% will be the same material, but there's always that 10% out there, right?>

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

I was playing with an 8-man PUG yesterday and we steam-rolled our first mission so we upped the difficulty, and the next map was full of those psi-based floaty-women... people (yeah, I'm not good on all the names).

Team wipe.

Team wipe.

Someone on the team, laying face down (as was I) piped up, "Man, I'm gonna miss these team wipes."

I'd even miss all-psi-team-wipes-in-blue-caves.

Man I hate the torches in the CoT caves. Was yearning for a chainsaw powerset that could cut them down.

I'll miss the blue caves, the Council pool room, and even the Circle of Thorns' cake-layer cave.

I'll miss running through The Hollows, without a travel power, to the opposite end, where the mobs are 4 levels higher than me, just to get to our mission door.

I'll miss doing that first respec trial in the power plant.

I'll miss hunting Tsoo in Steel Canyon to unlock my second costume slot.

I'll miss waiting for The Warriors to finally man-up and take Talos Island away from the Freakshow and Tsoo. Waiting for Scrappers to get Super Strength and Energy Melee. Waiting for some interesting content to get added to the Shadow Shards.

I'll even miss the Knives of Artemis and their 10+ caltrop patches of doom.

I'm not going to miss the RNG, it hated me .. .

Perez Park was the worst. I am still am picking leaves out of my hair.

I will miss everything except Perez Park (and possibly the Shadow Shard).

I once had a timed mission in Perez Park and got lost in the maze. By the time I found the mission door the timer had run out.

I was convinced that the blue caves were designed to frustrate brutes, with the way the spawns were so far apart that a brute couldn't maintain any Fury.
