8/28's Coffee Talk
I immensely appreciate that the developers make time every week to communicate with us - and not in a one-sided manner. Paragon Studios actively interacts and gets to know their community and it is one of the reasons I have stayed loyal to CoH all these years.
The rest of you can all burn; I solo.

Eh I would rather have developers that try and interact with the community, and they did do a short Q&A at the end which basically said Scythes for TW are not in work at all atm so nothing for Halloween.
Honestly taking half an hour out of their time once a month or so is much better than what certain MMO Developers do, such as certain games that ignore their player base completely. |

I'm T9. I have access to beta. I'm interested in the TechKnight set.
Today's CoffeeTalk was the first time I'd gotten to see it
And hell, I probably get on beta far more than the vast majority of the playerbase (the vast majority likely never having even installed it), and likely the majority of the T9 VIPs as well.
Plus, at least for me, I've not generated any tokens on beta/test since Freedom launched, so I couldn't even check it out if I wanted.

To be perfectly clear I actually favor the idea that they only do this once or twice a month. I'm simply suggesting that trying to host this Coffee Talk thing once a week is maybe bordering on a bit of over-saturation that dilutes the relevance of it.

I find that not every week must offer me new tidbits or even large chunks of new info, but find the talks a simple, fun way of interacting with the devs.
This week was really great since I gathered that quite a few of those chatting knew about the set, we got to joke around with the other devs who were chatting with us.
Also, I often see new people in the chat asking about the game in general so these chats are a way of bringing in new players as well.
I think what they mean is that we tend to get a different dev every week dropping by to give information, answer questions or just talk about some of what they do. If the coffee talks were done once a month, we'd have less variety as there'd be a limit of how long these things can go on for and how many people can be seated there.

Shooting the "S" is fine if that's the main thing you're looking for from these things. Perhaps my expectations here are just a notch or two too high for my own good. *shrugs*

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.

You've generated them on Live however. If you copy over a character from Live it "should" update your tokens, or at least it did on my account a few months ago.

Congrats - this is first "pro-Coffee-Talk-once-a-week" argument that almost makes some sense to me. Still I question the general idea of having any given Dev come in during any given week and effectively say very little more than, "Hi, I'm so-and-so" and "Sorry, I can't talk about that".

As someone else mentioned, it seems like there's always people on Twitch that are just stumbling upon CoH for the first time. I'd imagine most people don't often see the actual people behind a game regularly talking about it and showing things off (especially for one that's not a little hobbyist project!), and Twitch seems to be quite a popular site with lots of heavy gamers, so it's also good marketing (which means more people taking an interest in CoH, which means likely more monies for Paragon).
I'd probably watch them more often if I even knew when they did them, and if I regularly checked where they had the videos. Sure, I could just look up that information myself/bookmark the their page on Twitch... but writing this post saying I don't know is easier

Seems everyone's sailed past the Black Knight stuff I mentioned a couple posts up. While you're here, care to confirm/deny that set is in the works, Freitag?

Oh, I definitely don't assume we're now getting the Black Knight set. But the statement, phrased the way it was, combined with Zwi's reaction, make it look like it might be that much better of a possibility. (and, so much for this coffee talk being a waste of time and no new info, etc :P )
I'm all for NPC groups' pieces being converted for player use, and the Black Knight armor would help us work around the extremely dated "medieval" pieces we currently have. I think those launched with the game, right?

Besides for all we know Zwill was just frantically pausing on the idea about asymmetric costume parts in general because maybe there's a bigger update in the works that may be more sweeping than just one costume set.

Now see, they talk up the Tech Knight costume set, and it just may give you desire to shell out money to become Tier 9.
I know of at least one player who was nowhere near tier 9 and spent the money needed in a months time to become tier 9, just so they could access the tier 9 costume sets. |

But I mostly took that shot to show off customized Hasten and Superspeed.

Really? Every token I've generated on live is also generated on test. I purchased all of the Tech Knight pieces about a week ago: |
I don't care for these Coffee Talk things because a) they're an excruciatingly slow means of communication, for me anyway, and b) despite the fact that the company has been talking more since F2P launched they've been saying less and less.

On the other hand, most of the costume sets I've unlocked on live are not unlocked on beta.

On the other hand, since my odds of attending a summit are remote, watching one can be a good way to get to know the crew a bit, and laugh at the occasional* hijinks. I don't get to do it often, but seeing Aeon (I think) troll Zwill by having Jack-in-Irons stroll under the Atlas globe was a hoot. In that sense, I think what Zwill & crew are doing here is a success.

I think the coffee talks are pretty valuable. Rather, they do serve a purpose. It's easy for us forumites to be dismissive of them because several of us are already entrenched in the beta so all the 'latest and the greatest' is generally old hat for us. The coffee talks aren't specifically aimed at us, per se. There are plenty of players that never touch the beta or just hear hearsay and rumor so the 'repeat' info for us is brand new to -someone-.
And really it's just some of the... peripheral stuff like the T9 costumes that don't really interest me much. Or in general when they bring the artists in. That's not a knock against the artists, they're some amazingly talented people and it's really cool what they've done but for me it doesn't add anything to have them sit and talk about costume designs.
For me I prefer folks like Synapse, Arbiter Hawk (So cute), Dr. Aeon, Positron. Etc. The folks that work on things I'm interested in, that is, the power systems, missions, zone content, etc. It's pretty interesting hearing what went into a design or the -why- something came out the way it did (or even when it -didn't- because of some limitation) and the Q&A sessions usually have some interesting tidbits, even if not new info sometimes insight on a why of something or even putting a rumor to rest, etc. But see that's me, there are some people, likewise, that aren't that interested in it.
So that's why we have different people and different topics every week. I like getting to know all the devs in some form, seeing how they interact and getting some of their personal thought that goes into what they're working on. Not every week can be some big amazing reveal or Issue teaser etc. And I do have to credit zwill for putting -something- together each week and keep us entertained. It's not easy nor is it minimal work, so it's nice to know we have a community manager that's willing to put in the work and keep in touch with us.
