10-disc Avengers Blu-Ray set revealed, includes working Tesseract*
Some tapes got erased, others were lost to either time or fire as I recall. I think they have pretty much canvassed all the TV stations for any old tapes so finding any lost episodes now would be pretty astounding. Unless some of the cast from those days have copies in their estates I don't see any of them being found.

As said, occasionally an episode is found somewhere. TV stations from different countries find one buried in a box on an old reel for instance. Sometimes a fan finds one in a car boot sale!
In fact a couple were found recently and are being restored. There's full details here on Wikipedia.
Who knows.....there's always hope
As for that Blu-Ray set.......daaaaaaayum!!

(From Wikipedia)
The actors' union Equity had actively fought against the introduction of TV recording since it originally became a practical proposition in the 1950s.
Prior to the development of workable television recording, if a broadcaster wished to repeat a programme (usually a one-off play), the actors would be re-hired for an additional fee to perform it again live.
Equity's concern was that if broadcasters were able to record the original performances, they would be able to repeat them indefinitely, which would cut down on the levels of new production and threaten the livelihoods of its members.
Although Equity could not prevent recording altogether, it was able to add standard clauses to its members' contracts that stipulated that recordings could only be repeated a set number of times within a specific timeframe, and the fees payable for further use beyond that were deliberately so high that broadcasters would consider it unjustifiable to spend so much money repeating an old programme rather than making a new one.
Consequently, recordings whose repeat rights had expired were considered to be of no further economic use to the broadcasters.
Well it looks like the 10-Disc Avengers Bluray set has been delayed. According to this Disney and Marvel will redesign the briefcase that the set comes in to avoid the lawsuit. However in doing in so it will delay the launch of the set around Spring 2013.

When will the bad news end?!?!?!?!?!
I've already forgotten about most of you
You can still get the regular Bluray or DVD set, just not this one. The thing that has me interested is that the article states that they've recalled the 10 disc set. So odds are that they're instock at some retailers. Maybe find a mom and pop store that's willing to say 'phooey' to the recall and they might sell you one. There's also online bid sites, odds are there's going to be a few employees that see this as a quick way to grab some extra cash since it's a rare item.

Don't believe everything you read; I spoke to a store that put a pre-order on Amazon for me, and that order has not been cancelled. This close to the date, the items have yet to be fully put together, let alone distributed to anyone. EW has it grossly wrong here; no retailers have them a month out from release. Disney can't send a notice for something that hasn't happened yet.
And does anyone seriously believe that Disney aren't just going to settle this out of court to hit the release date? Yes, they may've slipped up in not getting the licensing right to use the case design, but consider two facts:
1) If Disney bails on this and doesn't pay, it makes them look like misers (this being the company that produced the highest grossing movie of all time) and it also makes the German company involved radioactive to do any business with as far as product placement is concerned.
2) There's no official word 16 days out. This is coming directly from a business owner who needs to know these things with pre-orders sitting out there that are worth a lot of money to Disney, especially on a Collector's Edition with limited numbers.
Disney will make this right; there'll either be a generous cheque involved, or negotiations will be rammed through to make this happen. But delaying the release of a limited edition set of the hottest movie of the summer, let alone the last five years?
You tell me if Disney would pass that up.

This looks semi-official:
According to Amazon, "The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as we originally expected. We know this delay is disappointing, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this causes. Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and we expect it will be available in the spring of 2013. Additional information will be available on our website and via email when available." |
I really should do something about this signature.
I saw that on Amazon too, but until pre-orders are confirmed as not being honored on the date originally advertised, then it's still going ahead.
