hmm Ryan Reynolds....
oh yeah highlander .. franchise has already gone down the toilet, maybe it'll renew some interest and fix it.
After Highlander 2, I don't think Reynolds can do any further damage that hasn't already been done.
You know... the original was pretty awful, too.
"There can be only one!" --- ummm.... why? Magic? Science? Aliens? Plotholism?
Was there any doubt that the protagonist would be 'the one'?

It had music by Queen in it and led to the most kickass music video ever...your arguement that the movie was bad is invalid

Fine film. Fine, fine low budget film.

My main reaction to this is yet another wave of disappointment that I didn't save the column from the Wall Street Journal a few years back where the author spent seven paragraphs describing horrible, annoying things that were still better than Ryan Reynolds. (Internet video reviewers don't have a monopoly on complaining about things geeks can't stand using outrageously hilarious hyperbole.)
As for Highlander, I have long considered it beheaded, i.e., beyond revivification.

on the bright side, the franchis has no where to go but up.
the original movie was decent, and the TV series also pretty decent
but the movie franchise got worse and worse, well beyond the point you would think they would make yet another movie.
The first movie was bad. It was so bad it transcended bad and became awesome. Awesomely bad, but still awesome.

It had Clancy Brown playing the Kurgan, too.
The fact that the protagonist was expected to win is about the worst argument one could make to support it being a bad movie. That's true of most heroic action movies. Anyone who went into Die Hard seriously expecting McClane to be the one who dies hard was an idiot. Anyone who expected Conan to be defeated by Thulsa Doom was truly naive.

I can see it working.

(If you'll notice in 1 & 3 the women only sleep with him after they find out hes immortal.)
A bunch of immortals fighting to the death for the prize of mortality. That makes absolutely no sense. Now a bunch of mortals fighting to the death for the prize of immortality makes sense. Or immortals fighting to the death for the prize of omnipotence makes sense as well. If an immortal wants to die, then they have the fun of finding an interesting way to die like being ground zero of a nuclear test or flying a spaceship into the sun. Mortality is the most boring way to commit suicide.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
Poor Johnny.

Actually if I remember correctly the Prize WAS Omnipotence, that the final one would become a God...atleast that was what it was in the original movie but been a while since I've seen it

After roughly a month of negotiations, Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast in the lead role for HIGHLANDER. Reynolds will play Connor MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final Prize mortality. |
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
After a climactic fight at the Silvercup Studios building in Queens, Connor defeats and beheads the Kurgan and receives the Prize, which manifests itself as a massive quickening. Now mortal and capable of having children, Connor moves back to Scotland with Brenda, and prepares to live out his life with her. With the Prize, Connor has awareness of the thoughts of all the people around the world, and the ability to exert some influence, which he uses to encourage cooperation and peace. |
Say it ain't so....Ryan Reynolds will be The Highlander in the reboot of this franchise....
