I Want Axe Wielding!

So Hubby and I saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter today (fun film, good solid summer entertainment), and I came away thinking, if there's an MMO game that could do an axe wielding powerset on the level it was used in this movie, it's this CoH.

Assuming anyone else has seen AL:VH, would you agree that axe wielding might be a worthwhile powerset to implement here?

We do... but once you see how it's used in AL:VH, you really appreciate how fast and furious and ruthless a powerset it can be. Axe wielding in the movie utilizes a lot of extremely quick "baton swing" movements and potentially offers melee toons a bit of ranged damage which is ultra rare.

Slow-motion battle axe just doesn't compare.

No axes for Dual Blades.

Want axes for Dual Blades and faster/more acrobatic attack animation options for Battle Axe, War Mace and Broadsword.

Wish Dual Blades had both Axe and Mace patterns to use.

The problem is, you can't exactly make powersets "faster" because that ruins the balancing/performance of the set. And the devs already said they would rather make new powersets than animations for older ones. (unfortunately)

I think the best you're going to get is axes for dual blades. Let's just hope whatever the new costume bundle is includes axes.

But sometimes you can make them feel faster by padding the actual hit with fancy twirly fun stuff. Maybe if the devs see that movie, they'll be motivated to create a set of alternate animations for Axe... but probably not. They could create an entire new powerset for the same animation labor. I doubt if another melee set is high on their list right now, but if they ever make a new melee set (tonfa anyone?) maybe they could somehow leverage that to provide some alternate axe animations.

Boy, it's been a while since I've seen a powerset suggestion based on a movie. It brings back the heady days of Spartan Summoning.

Also, axes for Dual Blades are a fine idea, I don't personally care for showy, twirly fast/slow fight choreography as we see in the movie mentioned, and I wouldn't mind seeing the animations for the existing Battle Axe set sped up a little. (Think I hit everything there.)

While I haven't seen AL:VH, I remember a great battle axe vs sword fight early on in the Shaw brothers classic 36 chambers of Shaolin. (Seriously an eye-opener in ways to fight with an ax if you've never seen it. Although I was young when I 1st saw it, I never would have thought of using the ax handle to strike with as much as the double-bladed head.)

It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.

Don't have to change the animation time to make faster movements in the attack animation. Some of the alternate punches for Martial Arts looks pretty fast, but don't alter the animation duration.

I'd just like to see alternate daintier/acrobatic/show-offy animations for Axe and Mace, as well as axes for Dual Blades. I want an acrobatic axe-wielder for a modern version of a classic/stereotypical pirate and dual axes for a barbarian character.

And Sticks. Other than time, the old excuses flew out the window when Staff was added and it had plain a staff, and a staff with a blade on it. The old argument was that the damage type didn't fit, that seems a bad reason not to include a weapon model in the current game.

To be true to the movie, I think it would need to be a GunAxe, and not just fast axes.

Black Pebble is everywhere. He shows up in Community Digest AND Dev Digest.

Must be so he can keep an eye on both groups.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.
