If you were a dev...

I'm fairly certain the player base already has a BURNING HATE for me (and I've damn well earned it! ), so I wouldn't need to do anything!

But, where's the fun in that? Lets make 'em suffer MORE!

1.) Super {girl,boy,lobster}friends!
All the classic supers have them! Superman has Lois Lane, Spiderman has Mary Jane, Batman has Robin, and The Monarch has Dr. Girlfriend! So why can't we have this staple of comic culture? Well, now you can! You'll be able to start on 'dating' at around level 20 or so. There'll be various character you can start a relationship with, and they can be kidnapped/brainwashed/etc, and you'll have to go out and save them.

The exact path you go down should be randomized with a large number of branching possibilities. If they ever implement the Nemesis system (HAIL LORD NEMESIS! - er not that Nemesis!), the super significant-others will make great kidnap victims.

Participation will be optional... but, after level 20, each level you gain with being in good standing with a significant other, you'll be hit with more and more severe debuffs (-regen, -res, -def, -recharge, -damage, and -hp... irresistible).

2.) Moar -tohit debuffs.
Autohit, of course. You think we nerved accuracy before? Well, just imagine how bad it'll be when we actually do! You'll be failing at a level 1 on your 50+3 Incarnate, and whiffing every single time.

3.) Make heroes fight Longbow / PPD
They already do a little bit, and BOY have people complained about how hard they were! Bluesiders obviously need toughing up, so "rogue" PPD/Longbow will randomly ambush people in any mission in Paragon. The rule that prevents enemies from using multiple location based debuffs will also be loosened, allowing them to stack their various debuffs (imagine being hit with a half dozen glue grenades at once!).

Villains will get cake.

4.) Give Stalkers Titan Weapons and Shields
This will only piss off... okay, well, no one. I'll probably be praised for this one, damn it!

5.) Continue being a complete *** on the forums
No need for explanation for this one!

To be honest, I was taking it that for the purposes of this thread that everyone quitting is an acceptable outcome. It's why I bothered to log in and post my own - I'd not advocate for them normally because I know the only way(s) to make them happen likely would result in lots of people quitting, but in this thread that's not an issue.

I'd add another Cape/Aura-like set of soloable missions to those who have achieved Level 50+3, this would unlock an in-game store that sells the recipes for all IOs below purple.

I would then make a random purple IO drop on completion of each DA arc and any more solo Incarnate arcs after. I would also add a random purple or PvP IO drop to the completion of the harder or higher tier Incarnate Trials.

Alignment and Reward merit costs of recipes and salvage would be halved, at least, where possible.

I would add an ingame browser for the forums to increase traffic and let the community have more accessability to one another. This includes F2P accounts.

The use of X more than once in a row will be an invalid name.

Trolling/trying to ruin RP and in-zone PvP duels would be punishable with an account-wide chat ban for 6-12 hours. If it continues, a 24 hour account lock would be in effect.

I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc

I would hold back on any post purchase sbe nerf until a system was in place to refund anyone and everyone unsatisfied with the new version; if not cash at least a points credit. If that means those crying about pay 2 win (in this highly, highly competitive mostly pvp game) cry harder and for longer, than so be it; that would be infinitely better than ripping off customers shamelessly.

This post is a good example of some of what I was talking about in my last post. The things I have bolded I think would actually drive people away. I know they are things that would make me feel far less super.

I would praise your name to the high heavens.

Quote:
[*]Alter the defense and resistance cap system. Nobody would be able to reach soft- or hard-caps without external buffs. Non-melee ATs would selfcap at 20% defense/30% resist. Scrappers/stalkers would selfcap at 30% defense/50% resist, brutes would selfcap at 35% defense/60% resist, and tankers would selfcap at 40% defense/75% resist. This would include all IO set bonuses and self-inspiration use.[*]Cap all defense related IO set bonuses at 5% to any value. [*]Cap all global recharge at +75%. This would include IO set bonuses, Hasten and all other sources.
I think a large portion of the player base would leave over these changes.

Quote:
[*]Add a 50% chance for friendly fire to all AoEs. Player characters in a detrimental AoE effect would have a 50% chance of suffering the effect themselves.
This could be kinda cool with lower percentages. It also was a power disadvantage in almost all of the Superhero RPGs.

Quote:
[*]Create failure conditions for all task/strike forces. Oh, you let Dr. Todd die? Moonfire TF failed. Add a 20 hour cooldown for rerunning a failed TF.
I actually like this.

Quote:
[*]Eliminate all external buff/debuff stacking. Weaker effects shall be overwritten by stronger effects.
Combined with what I bolded above, the game would not feel like a super game to me.

Quote:
[*]Disallow the creation of characters with names in all caps or all lowercase.[/list]
This one is just funny.

And then you get married. And then your spouse *IS* your nemesis. Timed mission? Forget it. He/she/it isn't letting you out of the house before the honey-do list is clear - and it's a LONG list. If you DO get out, you get a call partway through the mission (immobilize, -def, -res) as he/she/it complains about how you leave them with everything, etc....

Run something like the cape mission for a divorce. After which INF generation is cut down to 1/10.

I was going for tarring, feathering and running out of the country in front of an angry mob that has pitchforks, torches and molotovs...

But that works, too.

Also "for fun."

Hmm. How evil can I be?

* Every Malta, Knives, Talon, Roman, and IDF lieutenant on up now grants Vengeance on death. I'll be kind and make an exception for titans, cyclops, and minotaurs.

* You have to get Penny, Glacia, and Infernia to the mission door, otherwise the TF fails. Go back to start, do not pass Go, do not collect 200 reward merits.

Blood Widow Ricki * Tide Shifter * T-34 * Opposite Reaction * Shaolin Midnight * ChernobylCheerleader

Yeah, I think I misunderstood that part.

So, and all 16 of my suggestions were things I would really do. There may be one or two that would cause complaining (too lite a word maybe), but I don't think many if any would quit over them.

I think because I didn't get what you stated, that I took some people more serous than they were. I mean no sane person would really want to nerf hasten...

I forgot to include: only the alpha slot will function in non-incarnate content (as was originally supposed to be the case).

I would:

* Remove Mission TP, Team Tp, Assemble the team, Pocket D tp, Ouro TP and restore the tram lines to the old 'Green line, yellow line' model.
* Up debt by 100%
* Nerf most powersets a LOT
* Scrap AE
* Give more love to bases
* Completely remove PVP
* Either remove the 5th Column or the Council
* Buff most enemies, especially GM's
* Powers will cause property damage or colatteral damage depending on accuracy and damage type. Toons will be fined on the amount of the damage caused. ie. no fireballs in populated areas.
* A lot more day jobs
* Remove a load of badges, then replace them with one that are very similar, but you have to earn them again. Ie. remove 'defeat 100 fake nemeisis' and add 'Defeat 100 fake nemesis whilst in a green costume'
* Make civillians and villains insult your costume
* Give Carnies 'Wild Magic' - a power that mixes all your enhancments around, randomises all of your costumes, turns you in to a rikti monkey or removes your powers from the power tray and refills them with stones temporary powers

Rockshock (Druid Tanker), Medicat (Combat Medic), Dwarf From the North (Ice Mage), Rocket Gal (Energy Blaster), Graveborn (Undead Mastermind), Streeker (Punching Speedster), Op. Sidewinder (Recluse's pet Spider)

This would likely only affect the altoholics such as myself, but here we go...

Roll a new character. Make that costume nice and pretty. You like it? Good, you can have it at level 10.

All new characters would have a certain set of costumes available. They would appear handmade or mass produced, like a starting hero or villain might actually have. No, you don't get to appear as a hulking mountain of death and metal from the start... You get to be a dude in football pads and a motorcycle helmet. Prove your worth, and THEN you get the backing for the shinies.

Before you roll out, of course, you'll get a chance to adjust some things. Make sure your character stays yours... But, no, you have to undergo the rites of passage before you become awesome.

So, in a way, they did know - just not in the form they finally DID show up in issue 9.
Looks at reg date. I may remember that....

I was joking, not being snarky. I remember Statesman's system, and all of the above. At the time of ED I was just annoyed that Hasten could no longer be perma. I found it frustrating. I was much younger then, and this was my first MMO. How I play, and how I view the game has changed a lot, which is why looking back I feel ED and GDN were good things. The only real bad part of it was how it was done with little warning, little discussion, and no reassurance.

If they had said "Hey we have to do this to make a system that is in the works function. This system will potentially close some of the perceived holes these changes make."

That or just done ED/GDN and IO release all at the same time. IIRC though, by issue 8 Cryptic had cut the Dev team to 15 people. So Jack and Geko tore the system up with those changes, then left Posi, WW, and gang to deal with the fallout.

New enemy group - Sleepers: all they do is spam auto-hit sleeps, holds, and disorients that halt regen and do -1 damage. The mag on each attack is 50. They also have +10,000 stealth, capped def, rez, regen, mez protection.

First, I too would either cut down the +Def bonuses from IOs, or set a cap on how much you can get from them. This is killing Def based characters/power sets, because the Devs are having to account for people running around at the soft cap.

Second, I would put in some IO sets that carry penalties. Example: A standard set of 5 normal IOs with normal bonuses. The bonus for slotting the sixth would be something huge, but the sixth IO is a Unique proc that does nasty things to the player. Bonus: +10 Max End. Proc: -15% global recharge.

Third: Domination mode only refills your End if you're not in Domination mode when it activates.

Fourth: Bases. Doesn't matter if I do anything with them or not, someone will hate me for it. Still, there has to be some way to add new items to them, much like the vet reward decorations were added.

Fifth: I would remove the recharge on Snipes, and up the range. If you can see it, you should be able to snipe it. Once you fire, you're already in position, take aim and fire off another round, if you think you have time.

Alternate Fifth: Taking a snipe power would give you a second power, Sniper's Positioning. This would be a toggle that drops you into a sniper's pose and immobilizes you, but ups the range of the snipe and either removes the recharge or ups the damage.

Sixth: Add the occasional cat or dog to the city streets. This also includes giving groups like the PPD some Police Dogs.

Finally: Remove EXP and INF from the AE rewards. Add the "Experienced" power to the list of things you can buy with Tickets, and reduce the recharge on it greatly.

Require 10 badges per level to use trainer.

"Ms Liberty! I've done it, I have the experience to get to level 2 now!"

"Well done hero. But I see you're still a badge short of 20. Come back when you find another badge."

Or (maybe -also-?): Require an hour in-game per level.

Imagine the badge hunting leagues and "dancing the time away" parties!

Then you are correct you would have earned my hate. I like the incarnate system as is, with the exception of what I stated as my suggestion 18.

I feel the Thread system is a far better design than the shard system. I do however like the WST, and what it has done in getting the old TF/SFs run again. Which again goes back to my #16 suggestion.

I want to be a super powered super hero, that is on the same level, or at a greater level than every NPC in the game. Taking away powers that I have worked for would go against that desire for me. Again, I have trouble understanding why people play a super hero game and want to be less powerful, or want to force others to be less powerful.

You do know you do have the option to play the game in the way you have suggested. Shards can be converted to threads, and threads can be converted to the components needed for higher tiered powers. Then, when you are not doing incarnate content unslot all but the alpha.
