Rolled/Changed alignment to a Hero instead of a Villain because 'nobody plays villains?'

...or because 'red side is dead?'

Congratulations, you're the cause of the complaint.

This ain't rocket science.

I only make heroes because a traveler from the future told me that one day the Thread of the Damned would vilify the pure and condemn the just. That day has come and my preemptive retribution has proven to be completely sound.

90% of my toons are confirmed villains, never felt dead to me lol

I'm... so.. is this thread just to be confrontational? I'm not sure what you're hoping for except people going "Yup" or "nope" or "The REAL Reason redside is dead is..".

I play redside as little as possible... doesn't bother me that it has a lower population, because I never stay there anyways

What might really throw you for a loop is being asked if that traveler from the future wasn't actually me.

I'm hoping that people will stop using the reasons above to contribute to their own problem...that is, if they really do dislike the idea of half the game being less populated than the other.

Gee, you say the majority of people that choose to play a super hero game prefer playing super Heroes?

Really? I'd have never guessed that. I'd have thought they'd want to pretend to be accountants.

Red side was less populated even before side switching. The cause of red side being less popular is that it is actually less popular, although switching to the more populated faction has made it worse.

...and you know, Rogues exist for players that want to team with a lot of people but also play redside.

I've never wanted to be a villain - there's enough of those in real life.

Larry: Owen, what the hell did you do to my wife?
Owen: Well I don't want to say on the phone - all I can tell you is that I killed her last night.

You want villainy? Take Agent White there, lording that cute avatar in front of me. Can I hang him by his little neck until he stops breathing? Then beat him with a stick until his guts come spraying out like bloody candy?

...or am I...the villain

Apples and oranges. This thread is talking to people who go with Heroes because they decide the Rogue Isles is too unpopulated, thereby perpetuating the problem. You must have thought I'd said something else.

What you're saying here is that the cause of people having an opinion on the subject is that they actually have an opinion on the subject. The first half of your statement doesn't really say much.

Ex: The cause of tea being is more popular than coffee is because tea is actually more popular.

Popularity is something that individuals assign to a given subject; the subject doesn't actually possess some inherent popularity independent of people's opinions.

The second half of your statement says more; that is, it actually proposes a cause for the popularity...or rather, a technical lack thereof.

Your first post asserts that people who wanted to play redside, but left because of low population, are the cause of the low population problem. I'm pointing out that red population has always been low, not just because of people eventually giving up and going hero. If red population wasn't low in the first place, people wouldn't feel a need to go hero.

I don't mean "popularity" as in "how much people like red side", I mean "how much people actually play red side", which is objectively measurable, and only indirectly a function of opinion. It is less popular ("less populated", if you prefer) than blue side, and always has been.

Blaming the players for being in a Prisoner's Dilemma situation is rather silly.

He's only blaming the players that see population as an issue... then, instead of staying as a small boon they leave making it worse... and then telling other people that's why they did it. Which, arguably, is worse than just doing it.

I roll Heroes because I get money for nothin' and the chicks for free.

I switched from villian to Hero because of the Welcome Wagon basket when I got off the sub in IP. It had cookies. Yummy white chocolate chip and macadamia nut cookies. They were still warm.

Reminds me of the good ol' days when Perfect Pain would go on one of her rants about how we didn't need merged markets, we just needed everyone to play villains.

Fair enough. My intention was to assert that they were a cause of the problem. Also, thank you for clarifying your last post.

Are you proposing merging sides completely?

Villainy is so much more versatile and fun though.
Unless you're born into the role of dictator, being a bad guy IRL is pretty difficult.
And I'm playing this game to do things I normally can't do...shoot lasers at my ex-wife, drop a snowstorm on my coworkers, go invisible in the women's dressing room at Macys etc.

I switched from hero to villain because of the chumps smiling over welcome wagon baskets they received when getting off the ferry in Cap. It had cookies. Yummy white chocolate chip and macadamia nut cookies. They were still warm...when I took from them.
I then...

path A - enjoy the cookies with a nice, cold glass of tears...cackling all the way back to my base.

path B - sell the cookies along with all the other stolen cookie baskets in a bakery that fronts as my evil base of operations...cackling as people come in to buy the baskets that I stole from them in the first place.

VILLAINY!
BAKERIES!
WORLD DOMINATION!

heavens no!

Just pointing out that players do what they do and suggesting everything would be fine if only they did the 'right thing' is silly.

This is the whole reason I have 3 times as many Villains as I do Heroes.
And they stay redside.

I agree with both sides of this and actually play both sides (more vills though). There really isn't any shortage of redside action if you're on the right server. The same people that say redside is dead, if I was on that server...I would probably say bluside is dead as well compared to where I play.

Get on the global channels, get into an active SG/coalition and let the high optempo, villainy goodness commence.

Done.

Guilty as charged. Rather than hanging around and making a miniscule contribution to the population count, it's frankly more effective to just hop over to where the action is, and get your friends to come too. That's not rocket science, either.

So they should stay where they aren't happy and they should lie about it? Sorry but that sounds like a recipe for disaster that will drive customers away from the game.

I'd much rather them come blueside where we have pie and bacon and they are free to be happy and honest.
