Also: pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth being rather excellent.

For those of you who are not obsessive fans and worshippers of Joss:

(a) WHY NOT? HERETIC! HEERREEEEETTIIIIIICC!!!

and

(b) If you're wondering how Chris had time to grow those muscles for Thor, the flick was actually finished in mid-2009. However, it got rolled in with the massive financial screwups at MGM that nearly killed the Bond series, sold to LionsGate last year, and has finally rolled around to a release date.

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

I plan to see it, yeah.

I heard a "non-spoiler" review that claimed that this movie supposedly took the classic horror movie formula and turned it on its ear and made something truly cool and original out of it. Still not sure I'm interested enough to see it ASAP but I might see it if there's enough people saying that yes, it is really unique enough to be worth it.

I plan to see it this weekend. I thought it was coming out later in the year but at least I have some Whedon to tide me over until Avengers comes out.

First show tomorrow.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

I'm a fan of Whedon's stuff. My wife is a super-fan.

Not to mention that the movie is sitting at 92% at RottenTomatoes (from 85 reviews) which is pretty damned good. There's been nothing worth seeing the last few weeks, so I'll probably see it tomorrow or Saturday.

I caught the midnight showing. I found it to be a surprisingly good movie with a lot of wit, plot twists, and homages to other horror movies. I recommend it a lot. In a way, Cabin in the Woods is to monster movies what Scream is to slasher movies.

By the way, I waited until the end of the credits, hoping for a bonus scene; Unfortunately, there wasn't one.

I just saw it. In the interest of being spoiler free on the first day, I'll just say "yay".

And ditto the prior poster, don't stick around waiting for anything past the credits.

It didn't feel as short as it was, there was so much going on. Well done, Mr. Whedon.

It was awesome. Definitely a Joss Whedon type of movie.

All right. Today, I'm going to see The Cabin in the Woods again. Who's with me?

Also, I found a spoiler-heavy essay about who the villains of Cabin really are. It's a good read. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/54997

Say hello to your new favorite horror movie.

Something witty and profound

So very good.

It's definitely in the horror genre, with suspense and a little gore and other horror elements, but there is one part that had me laughing out loud like I NEVER do in the theater.

What's that movie about anyway?

To give away too much of the plot would take too much out of the film. So I'll say this, its as if Scream and Monster movies had dirty kinky sex and produced a love child. I don't know if its good to see in the theaters as it lacks a lot of the cinemetography that you want to see in the big screen, but it is hilariously entertaining. Plus as one critic said, who can resist a killer unicorn...ok one spoiler. It's also holding at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is well deserved.

Maybe it's just me, but methinx yon advertising for the movie was a little trixy as far as who "made" it. Longtimeish Whedon cohort Drew Goddard was the director and co-writer along with Whedon.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

I was hoping to see this, and had my wife on board by saying that Mr. Whedon co-wrote and produced it but completely lost her when I said something about horror or thriller. Looks like I'll have to see this when it's available on-demand.

I hear it's quite the good time though. Bummer.

If your wife has an issue with horror movies, it's best that she stays home. I will say there is a... significant amount of blood in this film.

Just got back from it and it was awesome. Loved the Shaggy's bong and how genre savvy he was. Fred was neat. I laughed at the dirt bike bit.

Whedon was also second unit director of this. It's more funny than scary, but yeah some bits did make me jump and push back into my seat.

Unmitigated awesome.

The only thing keeping this from being Whedonverse perfection was an absence of Eliza Dushku.

The "Village Voice" reviewer who put the movie's ending in the first line of his review, which popped up at the bottom of the listing of showtimes as I was figuring out when to go, ought to be drawn and quartered, though.
