I have a few friends that do a movie review podcast, and they loved this movie, even the one who is magnificently scared at horror movies. They all gave the movie high marks, and while they said it wasn't going to win picture of the year, they all agreed that they wouldn't have changed anything about it, which I think is a pretty good review of a movie.

Am I crazy or did I see a reference to the webcomic Something Positive in this movie?

Namely, when they had the board of possible villains up on the wall. There was a line that said, "Angry Molesting Tree". I wonder if it's a reference to the Redneck Tree.

Evil animated trees are a fairly old trope. Just take the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter marry it to a Hentai tentacle violation scenario and you'd come up with an Angry Molesting Tree.

Mermen would be cooler, though.

Given the way it used references, I would assume the "Angry Molesting Tree" thing was a reference to the infamous tree scene in the first Evil Dead.

Saw this tonight. Fun movie all around.

What did Joss do, go through his list of actors and actresses from his previous shows and see if they were interested in a job? The three I spotted, which were obvious to Mutant Enemy fans, were Amy Acker (Angel and Dollhouse), Fran Kranz (Dollhouse) and Tom Lenk (Buffy, guest spot on Angel).

Neither of those quite cover it: Awesome is a far more accurate descriptor.

I very much enjoyed this flick! So glad that I decided to see it in the theatres.

Something else also familiar....I'll just say if there were inscriptions of a Wolf, a Ram and a Hart somewhere in this movie, they would not have been out of place.

Two thumbs up. Funny, and scary, and kinda creepy. Very fun movie. Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins just kill in all their scenes.
