Turrets' Syndrome

I just had a fairly strange CoH experience. I was playing a character that had been sitting dormant for a while and decided to complete a radio mission on my mission list. Unfortunately, the details of the mission had been replaced with generic placeholders. The mission was

"Defeat BOSS_NAME and Guards
The VillainGroup has been brazenly defying the forces of law and order lately. From the sound of things on the police band, that's probably because of BOSS_NAME."

Now, I like surprises as much as the next guy, so I decided to run the mission and see who it was that I originally planned to fight. I figured that once I got in, I would see the usual suspects of Nemesis, Carnies, Rikti or whoever. When I got to the location, however, it was an office building filled with turrets, antipersonnel guns and dual artillery guns, but no recognizable villain group other than "turrets."

When I was done, I received the rather bland notice that "You have defeated BOSS_NAME and his VillainGroup crew. Mission accomplished."

Still, I couldn't help wondering... Who the hell did I just fight? Was it the Carnival of Turrets? The Turrets of Artemis? The Circle of Turrets? Weird.

Has anyone else had this experience?

If you're holding newspaper or radio mission over a big enough patch, it will bug out and put a seemingly random villain group in the mission, and remove the appropriate boss name from the record.

If it's going particularly nuts, you can end up with some crazy level disparity as well. I once entered a 14th level character's old radio mission to find it populated with enemies over level 40.

I had level 50 eyeballs (not soldiers of rularuu, they were all eyeballs) in one of my bugged papers. Farmed the crap out of that thing for a few friends. (Eyeball bosses are one way to get Rularuu weapon customizations.)

That's pretty much what I figured. It just seemed odd to be in an office building with nothing but turrets as far as the eye could see. I initially thought that they had been set up by a conventional villain group and that I would encounter the real bad guys once I broke through their first line of defense. Instead, the turrets were the bad guys.

I also had to wonder how they got to the office building in the first place. Lets face it, turrets aren't known for the migratory tendencies. Still, it appealed to my sense of the ridiculous because, out of all the enemy groups in CoH, I can't think of one less likely to undertake such a venture than those nefarious turrets.

At least you could fight them.

If I can put in a fairly old screenshot...

... which apparently got resized at some point. Ugh.

I had a glitched newspaper mish full of high level 7th Generation Paragon Protectors on a lowbie Stalker. Had to drop it because I couldn't beat them.

True story: I once had this glitch on a tip mission, and it gave me the 'Corrupted IDF' spawns along with reskinned DE, like, almost a full two issues before the Underground trial went live.

Not as funny as the others, but every time this bug happens to me, I end up fighting Wyvern... even if I'm a hero.

Ditto. Level 50 PPs vs. lowbie did not end well.

Every time I do that hero morality mission in the 30's with Doc Quantum's base, I mention to my channel-mates that I'd like to see a radio mission to "Defeat Firebase and his Turrets crew." Apparently, the game was listening! At least no one has yet seen "Defeat Bang-o and his Explosives crew."

And I, too, once got a paper mission filled with Paragon Protectors on a level 24 character. This was back when they were very hard for villains to find, too, so I regretted having to get a GM to complete it (this was long before the "complete mission" option, too).

Yeah, the only thing I really like about it is being able to make Turret jokes.

Can a Turret, like a Sniper, be rendered mobile if enough Clear Minds or other Immobilize protections are stacked on it?

I love that Doc Quantum mission! I like blowing things up. Also, it's over pretty quickly. ^_^

I have a formerly Council radio mission on one character that I've kept as an alternate farm type mission... only now it's a "defeat Boss_Name" mission. I have no idea who the enemies are at this point, I should check it out.

Speaking of glitches... we had that Nictus Romulus glitch on an ITF last night (we had a Peacebringer on the team). We kept running into him, but the best part was when we zoned into the last mission and waited for the first ambush, there was Rommy charging straight up to the gates to take care of us personally! Lol, such an impatient guy!

One of my characters has a BOSS_NAME mission in Peregrine. The door is on a boat, but it's a Council base inside and is populated with Minions of Igneous.

At level 10 I once got to fight the fabled Siren's Call Phantoms (who never actually made it in to the game) who appeared at level 20 in my bugged paper mission.

Actually that tip is fun. If you're lucky, a nearby bomb will take the turrets out for you.

I don't know about running around, but I've seen the turrets in the RWZ jump.

Yeah a friend on Liberty had that happen to her as well heh...at the time the person was like "oh my, look at these new mobs! what are they?!"

I had to act surprised, since at the time I was in the closed beta and knew those mobs were in the UG iTrial, but of course couldn't say anything. "Woah..never seen those mobs before! take pictures!"

Had a similar experience a while back.. be glad you were able to actually complete the mission without a GM. Mine was a mission to rescue the hostage. I entered the mission and the entire THREE story building was filled with ...Villain Group .... "Hostage Victims". Not a single one had an attack and none of them were considered valid targets [KEEP THAT PART IN MIND AS I CONTINUE]. I figured okay lets head upstairs and find THE hostgae and rescue him. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ .. He was being guarded by two "Hostage Victims" that I couldn't defeat to release MY hostage victim.

I had to file a request for support and wait on a GM who had a hard time understanding what I was talking about until he came inside the mission himself. LOL He wound up Auto Completing the mission for me and we both filed a bug report. Fortunately it didnt take that long and I enjoyed actually Freaking out a GM.. he'd never, ever seen anything like that before! hehehe

Hahah that's awesome....

Now I'm tempted to get a random paper/radio mission and just hold on to it just to see if I get a cool bug like one of ones described here!

Would that be an African swallow or a European swallow?
