Michael Bay sets out to sully another 80s icon?

TMNT already had live action movies and they were Fing awesome.

Mr. Bay please won't you kindly suck an egg.

Oh yes the first TMNT movie cost only 13.5 million and made just over 200 million worldwide. That's a tough act to follow especially when your making them aliens....what a muppet Bay is.

Pretty much the same here. I thought they were decent enough popcorn flicks, but wouldn't call them masterpieces and never really had any real desire to re-watch them.

But at least he stuck with some similar origins in the Transformers movies, sounds like he is going to totally bastardize TMNT something fierce.

Wonder if it will end up like the US Godzilla movie.. A movie that is similar to its heritage in name only. And even that is debatable in this case, as Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles =/= Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Easier said than done. I've seen people say they won't buy or see a movie/game/tv show because of factor x. Yet I've seen them still go out to buy it or see it. Honestly the reason why Bay can say all this and get away with it is because he draws in $$$. The moment the $$$ stops coming in is when someone will step in and tell Bay to stop.

Its very (potential?) existence is an affront to the TMNT 'verse.

The same could be said of the 80s/90s cartoon that had taken what was a more grim, dark, monochrome comic book TMNT and had them saying catchphrases, being obsessed with pizzas, and having Shredder reduced to sometimes comedic, Saturday morning villain with incompetent henchmen that embodied 80s trends.

Not exactly problem solved. Since the problem here is the tainting of a childhood favorite.

Sure, not watching it means you don't have to suffer yourself.

Until you're 6 year old nephew starts raving about the alien turtles...

It takes what should be a bridge, a common ground for seperate generations to share, and turns it into the Star TrekOS vs Star TrekTNG culture.

Don't even get me started on how I felt when a dates 12 year old son started railing on me for having an original Optimus Prime in the box, saying those movies suck and anyone that likes transformers is lame. He'd never heard of a cartoon and wouldn't watch it at this point regardless.

Saying look the other way doesn't stop it from happening all around you. Head in the sand can only keep you feeling positive for so long.
The majority of his films get all the revenue they do, not from the fanboys, but from the 14-17 year olds that have no reference to the source material and are only looking for 'coolnesss' on their dates.

Fact is, these movies aren't made for us, and he knows it. We're just the icing on the cake that is the Twilight generation, a group he's a master at milking.

We can scream until we're blue in the face, fact is the more bizarre his changes to the source material, the more up in arms fanboys get over it, the more willing he is to go farther. The bulk of his target audience won't care at all and the rest of us will get so worked up over it, we'll have no choice but to see it just to validate our opinions.

Win/Win for him and Hollywood.
Business as usual.

At least they were still Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Even Venus, the female TMNT character from the misbegotten live action series managed that much.

Shell breasts, man. But still a TMNT.

They were adolescent, they were mutant creatures, they had superior ninjutsu skills, and they were anthropomorphic turtles.

That's closer and more appropriate than anything Michael Bay will give us.

I had a thought after my small diatribe earlier...

Could it really be any worse that TMNT III?

Personally, I liked the third movie better than the second.

This is the part that gets me. If your kid, and anyone else for that matter, actually enjoys Bay's product, then why complain? I'm willing to see if what he produces is actually a good movie or not before saying over-the-top metaphors of "Way to take a time machine, find me as a childhood, and ruin every good memory I had of this source material somehow."

I don't understand the need to screw up a simple origin story...I just don't get it ;_;

Especially when the original story is an homage.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

So if these "turtles" if we can really call them that any more are from some place in space and they came to our planet in a super advanced space ship capable of at the very least traveling threw our galaxy why the F*** would they be fighting with nunchucks, swords and other primitive weapons? See it can't make sense.

Uggg this is not going to end well. I hope this movie bombs and ends Bays career.

I can actually see him going all out and having them not actually be turtles at all, but rather humanoid aliens with power armor that looks turtle like...
Hoping to grab a bit of the Iron Man love at the same time.
This gives him the chance to come up with all kinds of high tech gadgets for them to use, I'm seeing extending staffs and energy swords and ray guns that are shaped like Sai's...

I'm also holding back the vomit.

:/

The fact that he says that he's working with "one of the original creators of ninja turtles" makes me worried, too. Because 1) They're TMNT, not just "ninja turtles", and 2) from what I've heard, he's working with the director of the first movie, not one of the original creators. That he doesn't understand the difference makes me extremely worried.
