I rather have McBarky, that's how i call him, growl like the Dire Wolf. Once in a while isn't so bad, just the constant basking is VERY OBNOXIOUS!

I thought people were exaggerating until I got mine.

I don't know who in the art department thought making "Arf-arf-arf" go off every 5 seconds when idle was a good idea.

Indeed. I mean, really if they actually played with the set for 5 minutes they can't have NOT noticed how frequent and repetitive the barking is. Could they?

Are there any emotes that you can make the MM wolf pets do that will silence them? (are controller pets capable of doing petsay commands?)

I know that you can get the demons to quiet down if you get them to do some of the emotes.

Then came Demon Summoning, and the exact problem you describe happened... And is still happening to this day. Demons are constantly grunting and growling. I wonder if we need another blow-out flame war over it to get someone's attention and please just kill the repetitive background noise that's out of our control.
Ah, the good ol' days of having characters I would only play with the speakers turned off...

I won't even go that far.

I tried a Sonic Blaster the first day they were released, and haven't touched
the set since.

I won't go near the Demons with a 10 ft cattle prod, and on the rare times I team,
and the rarer times I've gotten stuck teaming with Demon MM, I'll usually find
something else to do.

In the couple iTrials I run regularly, there's enough room to avoid them (and the
infernal racket) to the point where it's tolerable amidst all the other stuff going on.

Thankfully, I've not encountered the barking mutts yet, but if they're as bad
as folks are implying here, I'll be adding them to the "Stay Away" list.

As for Sam's comment, you'd think the dev's *would* learn, but unfortunately,
they don't seem to, or once they actually do, they move on...

I see a lot of "repeat-mistakes", that were once thought to be solved, these days.

All pets should make about 1/4 of the noise that they do; I am even all for mostly silencing the clank-clank-clank continually emitted by Robot MM pets.

Allow me to recommend Group Fly as a means of silencing Demon pets. Standing around in DA waiting for a league to form? Why make everyone listen to "AAAAAAAAAAA-RooOOOOoooOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" every got-damn 15 seconds? Toggle group fly and shut them all completely up. Works for me. Besides, they look pretty cool all hovering around you.

[I have other uses for group fly as well, but it cannot be beat just for its ability to completely shut up the demons.]

edit: I am already not liking the yips of pain emitted by the wolves every time an attack lands on them. I know these are not real animals, but I simply do not want to hear this, I find it distracting and yes, laugh if you will but I even find it upsetting on some level. I dont want to hear animals getting hurt! I find it sad that every time I play a MM I have to run around with the sound turned off.

Hi B_I!

Way back in the day the wife wouldn't let me play QUAKE because the yipping of the mutant dogs freaked her out too much.

I won't make a BM mm because when the wolves die they whimper and yelp and that is sad to me. I know you might think that is stupid but I teamed with a BM mm for a few hours this past weekend and I wanted to cry everytime one of his wolves died.

Ha! Exactly.

Umbra Beast really is too loud, too often. Giving people non-gameplay reasons not to team with each other seems counterproductive. And giving an awesome power a terrible noisy side-effect, to the point where people don't want to play the set, seems counterproductive too. Occasional noises are fine for pets, but the constant barking and howling is definitely too much -- about as bad as Demon Summoning howls. Maybe there are some people who like these sounds, and their volume/frequency, but I have yet to meet any of them.

It would be great if a "Turn off pet sounds" option was added to Null the Gull for those of us who want that. Playing the game with no sound at all is no fun (for me, anyway), but some of the pet sounds are just too over the top.

Hope the devs find some way to fix this.

i took your advice ZM and silenced all of the dog sounds, it was driving me nuts

Any thread about "infernal racket" is automatically referring to Demon Summoning.

The worst part? It's such an amazing powerset. The demons are superpowerful, so plenty of people "put up" with them for the power, which is just ALL TOO AWESOME. I mean it's like, what, uh, what's the opposite of irony?

Good lord, you are even worse than me.

My Beast person is a lowbie, so she hasn't had any pets die yet. Now that you say this, I'm not looking forward to it at all; its bad enough when you dismiss the two bigger demons and they're howling and clawing the ground as they're being sucked back into Hell. That's a downer.

I'm just a little too softhearted, I think.
