I had the British Museum dinosaur models, there was a clear distinction in design in the models molded after a certain year.
yeah, artists like greg paul[one of the best!] decided to fix them

anyway, fun fact: we have a giganotosaurus skull in the exhibit. it's wicked huge.

They've posted the wrong patch notes before, but it's usually just the ones for the next build coming down the line, and when it's pointed out to them they acknowledge it and edit them.
But for the animal pack note, they just edited them, and then deleted every quote of the lizard/crocodile part, and acted as if the mistake had never been there at all.
And it's not like it could have been a misprint either - plus, the lizard parts were at the stage where they were included in the internal patch notes, so they do exist - and it's unlikely that the devs will let the time and effort spent on them go to waste
I seem to recall it being in a producer's letter (or something similar), rather than patch notes (although it may have been both).
However, I recall it being an actual write-up (I think from Second Measure, but I could be wrong), talking about what they were delivering and such.

Unfortunately, I didn't see it until all of the edits and it was rather confusing and frustrating reading through the replies and wondering WHAT EXCITING INFO WAS REDACTED?!?!
I was hoping somebody had copied it before it was edited, but no one had (why would they?). Instead, all I heard then was the same vague mentioning as you've repeated now, "something about reptile or dinosaur or lizard or something parts that were pulled"... some even mentioned ape parts as well, but I have no idea if that's correct.

C'mon, Devs... spill the beans!

Oh, right [SNIP!]
Because every time we pick up a new issue of "The Flash" or whatever, dinos are up front and center, right?...!

Or are they?

I still say, out of all possible costume packs requested, a dinosaur themed pack remains Massive Fail.

As far as the other person nattering on about dinos everywhere having been found bristling with pinfeathers, yeah right. I'll file that right next to "I WAS KIDNAPPED BY BIGFOOT!" claims. Hope that does not sound "snobby."

Those of you who think this game needs a One Thousand Years BC theme, carry on. I'm out.

There's a gunslinger and a barbarian front and centre every issue as well. And that staff-twirling guy that shows up every issue doesn't seem to mind sharing the spotlight.

Well, the dino pack is something I have been looking forward to for quite some time, admittedly to repurpose to a dragon, but my hope is that we get the base scaly heads and then, similarly to how the feline heads in the beast pack had different options for manes, sideburns and fangs, get the option of frills, feathers and the like, as well as perhaps bone ridges lieka triceretops and different horn structures. for player characters, mix and match should be key. If they later introduce a new dino zone, either by oroboros or by some deeper part of the hamidon territory of praetoria, then it would be cool to see feathered raptors and the like. basically, dinos have been a part of the comic community for a long time, and a good "lost world" would be soemthing id love to see coh go with. heck, redo "monster island" into that sort of area, maybe make it bigger and more detailed for different dev earth monsters.

Oh and one more thing, since a lot of discussion has been on hints. the producers letter from when the beast pack launched seemed to be the biggest tip off. I had not seen it before it was edited, but it seemed based on responses to have suggested a crocodile head being initially planned, but later held back for another set.

Another hint that i find interesting was that at a recent con, either a pax or the pummit, i forget exactly, posi was asked about dinosaurs and he said that that would need a 4 legged rig. Given lead-in times for art assets, he would have already known that a 4 legged rig was being worked on, so this may or may not have been a clue. Either he knew and was leading us on with an answer that we would only understand with knowledge that would come in Halloween with the dog, or he just forgot and its a red herring.

Not only are dinosaurs a classic comicbook theme, they'd also make sense gameplay-wise - with the 4-legged rig, they're really the only thing that could fit the description of a Giant Monster that could use it

wow you can be a negative nancy. also, nobody would force you to use any parts sooooo theres really no need to be so angry about it. as a market item, you could actually *not* buy it.

<_< but seriously wikipedia: feathered dinosaurs. i posted the link. it lists about 30 of the theropods [which are dinosaurs] that have been found with feathers... O_o not exactly cryptozoological like bigfoot. but what ever, we all live in our own worlds...

lol.

and a dino pack is not massive fail. how many of our characters really fly around on a magic carpet. zero of mine. but of the zillion alts out there, how many could use a new pair of feathered or fleshy wings? how many dragons could use new heads or fancy new tails? who doesnt love a new pair of monstrous feet or a interesting new back detail?

a dino pack would be lots of win not because it's all dino, but because of the potential to mix and match for all themes. maybe for a lizard-man invasion.

:ghasp: maybe the battalion are lizard men and space dinosaurs.

But they did pull an crocodile head and other reptile parts from the animal pack - it was listed in the patch notes, but then changed very quickly, and any posts quoting it also disappeared.
The post I was talking about came from this Intrepid Informer. The discussion thread has lots talk about the removed bits, although I don't see any actual quotes of what was removed. Looking through the discussion, sounds like before it was edited, the post mentioned a croc head and how it might better fit a theoretical reptile/dino pack.

I still like the time where she skirted the edge of calling the people who wanted more gender equal costumes as being Maoist communists.

I'm sorry, but I HATE the everloving snot out of "It's not in Comic Books!" as a reason why something, be it a powerset or costume piece should not be in this game. You know what? I'm not even a huge comic book fan. I joined this game after a friend (technically against the rules) let me sit down at his computer and play CoH, and I experienced how fun it was, and how the game's costume creator allowed me to design almost any kind of character I could envision, and its incredibly open and diverse storyline allowed me to come up with any kind of backstory I wished, and roleplay it as such. There was room here for almost anything. I didn't have to be an elf, orc, or spandex-clad human.

I personally might not get that much use out of a dinosaur or caveman costume pack. But I sure would like to see what other players did with it. I suspect that once it got mix and matched with all the other costume sets in-game, we'd see lots of aliens, fantasy characters and other creative things I can't even think up right now, and that's what I love about this game- the sheer creativity it encourages in the playerbase.

^This, exactly. It's one reason why I view "It's not in comic books" as a pretty weak excuse to keep something out.

Hmm. Some dinosaurs had ARM feathers.

This makes me think feather gloves/arm pieces would be an excellent idea.

Yeah, definitely. I was totally wrong: every time you turn a page in a comic-book, a dinosaur IS looking back at you.

Or not. My bad.

As far as the Steampunk pack, I had my issues with that as well, including that the Steampunk theme does not feature much in comic titles I am interested in; however it had pieces in it that I found useful, so I kept my mouth shut.

HOWEVER. To even momentarily think that the developers should be creating a "dinosaur" pack before they address many other long-standing costume-related requests, is just.... not to mention people have been requesting a base-upgrade pack for what, SIX YEARS?!! And they *still* don't get one, nor is one in the pipeline to my knowledge.... but we're going to get dinosaurs? *facepalm*

1. I am not angry.

2. A dinosaur pack would take developer time and effort away from stuff that I think is more useful and appropriate, so am I pleased? Not so much. Despite forum wing-flapping, "not pleased" does not equal "in a titanic rage." Sorry.

Re gender equality, no one was a more visually gender-equal guy than Mao, so that's pretty much a non-starter as far as flame-war fodder. Although I do think a Mao-themed costume in the game would be a hoot. But you dinosaur-wanting people are evidently going to get what you want, so rejoice.

So your argument is that unless it appears on every page of every comic in existence, it has no reason to be in this game?

Well, I guess that rules out aliens, robots, and demons as well. Because while they do appear in comics, they don't appear in every comic book page in existence.

Oh, ma cherie, a 'greatest hit' recollection is not a flame war start. It is too fond for that.

I like your confidence in a dinosaur pack, considering reality has no backing to it.

I'm gonna miss my demon parts because Mephisto wasn't in enough danged comics.

Newp, sorry: that is not the argument I was making. Not at all what I said.

My argument was more along the lines of 'lets see things people have been requesting for years and years and years, rather than this stuff clamored for by a relative few' - the Beast pack also fits that motif by the way, borne out by the relative few I see using any beast pack part other than the Wolf tail, in the actual game. [I am on a high-population server btw]. Developer time is scarce, I say let's use it for the greatest overall good.

Looking forward to the retro sci-fi pack, I will not purchase every part of that but you know.... space, space-travel, other worlds and suchlike is a pretty prevalent theme in comics, so this actually makes sense. Unlike some birds of a feather I see in this thread, do pardon the pun: This dinosaur pack "has no backing in reality"? Awesome news.

Demons, angels, sorcery, gods, devils, black magic, white magic, mythology and all metaphysical doings are not in enough comics you say?...?

'K. They're in a helluva lot more comics and storylines than dinosaurs, I think we can safely say. A Demon pack would get a lot more use than a dino pack.... I would include Angels in that but we got Valkyrie, which has always struck me as pretty angelic. An Angel pack would make more sense as well, even so!
