Unwelcome change to Montague's Arc
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Ok, seems I forgot/mis-interpreted the patch notes. I thought this barred you from doing the 'complete while doing the missions in tandem' route.
So, not quite as dire as I thought. This is what I get for posting at 3am...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I've never joined a team to get the badge needed to enter the midnighters club, so cant say im all too fussed about this change. Doesnt affect me in the slightest
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
A poorly written, poorly designed, and all-around asinine story arc that pits you against one of the game's most annoying enemy factions and has to be run with every single character you make if you have even the slightest interest in doing Cimeroran content (including one of the game's most popular pastimes in the ITF) or IIRC any of the other Midnighter arcs.
Outside of the Incarnate stuff, that's about as onerous as it gets in this game. |
Main Hero: Mazey - level 50 + 1 fire/fire/fire blaster.
Main Villain: Chained Bot - level 50 + 1 Robot/FF Mastermind.
BattleEngine - "And the prize for the most level headed response ever goes to Mazey"
A partial solution would be to get a Midnighter club access as a Vet Reward
I don't think the arc per se is bad, but it's monotonous once you've done it the first 47 times. Once we've done it a few times it would be nice not to have to do it for every toon. It's not like the ITF is skippable content is it?

Oh i hope they never add access to a vet reward/the reward tier, theres already a huge gap between a new VIP and anything above tier 6.
Edit: I even saw somebody in local chat the other day being confused that a player couldnt use /auctionhouse thinking that all VIPs had it [love that btw! Aint been near a WW since it came out!]

MAybe not a high tier but I'd just like to get access without doing the arc every time... it's not like the Midnight club is a secret any more.
Thelonious Monk
Boo hoo.
Welcome to how it's always been on villian side.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!
I imagine this was the solution to fix the actual bug.
The one that allowed you to talk to the Latin Student, earn the badge then abandon the mission. Picking up the mission again put you at the point of talking to the Latin student, so you could earn the badge for another group of players. |
That's nothing new. Years ago, before the ability to flash back to old arcs was added with Oroborous, people used to pay big bucks to lowbies for a spot on their Fortuneteller mission team. If you'd missed the Fortuneteller mission when leveling up, which is frankly pretty easy to miss, you couldn't get the Atlas Medallion accolade. I know someone who routinely hired himself out to as many high-level types as he could find every time he got a new character to the level for the mission.

Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Get rid of the lock all together.
There's nothing so special about the zone that it should be stuck behind a lock like this (and heroside one of the most annoying suicidal NPCs around) anyway. There's almost zero content there besides the ITF, which is already level restricted, and two NPCs, also level restricted.
Either that or make the badge a global one. Run it once.
Of course, I fully expect the devs to read that and interpret it as "Hey, an Empyrian merit reward, 20 of them per character to unlock without running the arc!"
Besides, getting rid of the lock would get rid of the rather stupid discrepancy between hero and villain side. Heroside, run at 15, get the fluff "Origin of Power" arc at 35. Villainside, get the fluff arc at 10-15, then run the unlock at 35. So, for someone that switches between characters and sides...
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
Not being able to get vanguard merits doesn't keep you out of any zones.
Not having Dimensional Warder doesn't keep you out of any zones.
Not having this badge does. I hated key quest lines to unlock raid access for each and every character in that other game.
"Hey wanna do an ITF?" "Sure, this guy hasn't done one yet. Sonofa... Nevermind, have to go save Percy, again, have fun storming the castle."
"Hey, wanna do an ITF?"
"Sure! Oh wait, haven't unlocked it on this guy yet, let me get my fender instead."
Boooooooooo!
And I was saving the "Talk to" part on one of my toons for the next time I run an ITF and someone doesn't have the zone unlocked.

You know, if we're talking about a new player who's never run the arc before, maybe they should try it before running the ITF. It's a neat arc. By the time they're done with it, another ITF will be forming.
|
And no, it's not a "neat" arc. It's a fairly ridiculous arc with a suicidal NPC in the middle of it in an undroppable mission, heroside, and a time-waster at the end as you wait for a ridiculous recharge on a temp power that does something that gives you zero XP (not that you'd get XP for Lost at 35.)

This is one of those arcs that really brings teams together and I honestly don't see the reason for this upcoming change.
Completely against this train of thought. If you're on a team and get help to complete the arc, this badge should continue to be awarded to all. This is a team sport and you're removing the incentive , I honestly don't see the reasoning. |

If they're teamed with friends, surely these friends would be happy to help them with the arc? New player, everything is shiny, let's help her with the lady jane mission so that the worst case scenario you're describing doesn't happen! But no, you say these friends are so keen on an ITF that they'll abandon their cohort at the drop of a hat. Tell me, Stormbird, are these people really friends?
By the way, everyone I know has run over one million ITFs. Nobody ever says, "We need to run an ITF before it's too late!!"
Don't like this change. It's not a huge deal to run the arc, but it was nice to be able to jump on the final mission to get the quick zone unlock.
They really ought to have changed the Lost Curing Wand recharge to something close to immediate. The current recharge is nonsensically long. Toss us a frickin' bone already.
I've suggested it elsewhere and will suggest it again. Similar to aura and cape unlocks, sell Cimerora access in the PM. Like capes and auras, the option remains to run the arc and get Cim access for free, on a per character basis. Or, pony up, say, 400 points for an account-wide unlock.
IMO.
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.
1387 badges, and counting
That said, kind of a silly change, but not quite end of the world either.
It's not just this MMO either, it's all over. The golden age is over, now it's all about self.
