Can some one explain....
TV shows, movies, and generally anything that isn't inflammatory, religious in nature, political, or RL stuff like the recent internet blackout.
Me.
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

I'd say about 80% of my thoughts cannot be discussed on these forums... the other 19% is a maybe and the last 1% is the stuff Dark One listed.

Comic and Hero/Villain Culture A comic based game simply isn't a comic based game without a place to discuss comic books, your favorite characters, trading cards, actions figures and more...
I get what is stated above for this Forum....however what I want explained is what does the part "and more..." refer to? |
"And more..." is used idiomatically to mean, "and more of this type of stuff" not "and more of anything else ever no matter how unrelated to this type of stuff."

I've always taken the 'and more' aspect to mean anything that can be, in some form or another, important to nerd culture.
Back in 'Tha Day' that included other games.
That said...
An obit thread for the creator of The Flash is a no brainer.
An obit thread for an actor that appeared in numerous action movies is okay.
An obit thread for a sports legend is a bit of a stretch. As the connection to comics and or good Vs Evil is harder to make.
Still, posting that doesn't really bother me at all. I'd much rather have the old CHVC section of years past, where anything within reason was okay and usually informative but thems the breaks.
*this is the time when you could offer up the evidence of JoeP's influence on you as a Hero and blah blah to justify it, which isn't even needed really, as the moderators around here are pretty smart thankfully.*

If you're starting this thread to justify starting a Joe Paterno Obit thread you made.... it won't work.

No...I'm not asking to justify the Paterno post....I have always had this particular question.
As an aside to the Paterno post, I did not post that to start a flame war....I posted it to simply state that he had died.....no one raised a stink when I posted that Etta James had died....

That Paterno post had serious political controversy which is why it is not OK. Etta James is a singer so no political controversy exists.

Right before the CH/VC changes were made by TheOcho, this subsection was indeed starting to become somewhat... cluttered.
Numerous Obit threads were created, seemingly daily, most innocent enough but some had a feel of 'haha beat everyone to the punch this time' tilt.
Thus, Obit threads became one of the central arguing points during the conversion to the new rules. With vocal detractors and supporters.
Lord of Time(RiP) was prolific during these days with daily updates on comicbook movie news and various other interesting tidbits scoured from the web. While his threads were most always OT for the section... the sheer amount of them was to much for some posters to tolerate. This led to much bickering in the land of CHVC which in turn led to a lot of Mod time spent in this neck of the woods.
One day the Mod team/Community Reps looked at their labor #'s and realized with quite a shock that they were spending much more time dealing with problem threads and posters in the CHVC section than they were in the PvP section, even the Pwnz threads!
Thus the mighty hammer fell and here we are.
So needless to say, without realizing it, the simple act of posting an Obit stirs up all those heated memories and well, there ya go.

Counterpoint:
Here we are. See what the zeal to reduce amount of labor has wrought? A forum that is a shadow of its former self. I can't count the number of people that simply aren't around anymore and we'll never see here again. It's no surprise that the most active subsection required the most work. Had they actually disciplined the worst offenders, there was one guy I remember in particular that took forever for him to finally get banned, it would never have had to have gotten to the point where they needed to burn everything to the ground.
As for the people who were mad at LoT, they had the option to not read his threads and increase the thread count per page so that their pet topics stayed on their "first" page. Instead they complained at the guy who genuinely enjoyed this forum and wanted people to know about things going on in geekdom.

Now I didn't have a problem w/LoT as a person, per say. I did have a problem with how he posted. He would seemingly bot post 10 - 15 threads at one time, several posting the exact or near exact info as currently active threads of the time. Yes, I understand he was ill and perhaps that was the best way he could of posted stuff. My problem was he could of searched a little before posting. Why start a new thread when there is clearly an on going discussion?
And to be honest, I get what Seven & Maestro are getting at. I kinda miss how CH/VC was. While I understand that the Corp side wants to keep their players interested in only their little bubble, realistically that ain't the case. CH/VC was a bit of a outlet for the Forumites to talk, within reason of course, about non-CoX stuff. Yes, it still is, but not to the extent it was.
And for the record, I have my Page setting set to the max.

All of these forums fall under the general topic of City of Heroes. However, we do allow a wider variety of discussion topics in the Comic and Hero/Villain Culture forum and on the server forums. We encourage non disruptive off topic discussion in those forums along the line that fits with the community of posters who frequent them.

I miss the old CH/VC. It's lost the community feel it once had. I could spend hours going through stuff, now it's a 2-3 minute pass through.
And unlike some, I miss LoT's posts.

and of course we know how some people can't keep their feelings out of their posts, which only brings out the controversy even more...
You seem to imply that there is no controversy because she was a singer. That is irrelevant. She, as an individual, was an inspiring, rather than controversial, figure. Profession is irrelevant. If the singer in question were Marilyn Manson or Gary Glitter, then there could be controversy.
