The Enzyme Nerf Cometh

Im sorry but I find it hilarious that people are all up in arms about using something that THEY KNEW was completely broken and wasnt working the way it should and now are upset when that thing is fixed.

HO's are now useless ? hardly.. I use them in almost every build along with IO's to very good effect IMO and run everything in the game...

Enzymes will be sold for the cheap.. good. I have a lot of toons that will use those to great effect.. particularly defenders and controllers..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I can confirm that they also no longer buff Mind Link. This suggests to me that they probably modifed HOs (and related types) to use the same code as the Alpha Slot. The problem is that this does not conform to the patch notes. If nothing else, the patch notes should change. I have /bugged this in beta and posted feedback to this effect on the beta boards.

I find that unlikely. I haven't accepted HOs for years except on a whim. 53 Reward Merits is much more valuable on average. I get my HOs from the RSF, which I think gives a piddly amount of Reward Merits. (I used to take HOs on the STF, but I don't any more - I take Merits there too.)

I have never removed Cytos from my DM/INV because this info has been known for years and I can tell you that he is unbeliveable. By far, my most surviveable toon. By the numbers, the difference on MIds is pretty "meh" and I never had enzymes in it to compare, but I really don't think its a big deal at all.

On my DM/SD, I will have to rework.

People will spew them on the market. The price will probably drop below it's resting point before it finds its new happy medium.

I am not sure, but I think the objection is along the lines of, "There're very few things where a HO is eminently preferable to an IO. When this is coupled with the relative ease of acquisition of an IO when compared to that of a HO, the HOs are not nearly as desirable as before. They're harder to come by and often not as good or not that much better than an IO and its set bonuses"

It turns HOs into the Energy Melee of the enhancements--not totally suck, but there're just quite a number of things which are better.

But I may be mistaken.

This is good news and a victory for game balance. Shield Defense remains a very good set, there's no reason anyone should be deleting well-loved 50s over this.

HOs and Hami raids should still be very desirable to free and sub-tier-7 premium players. Targeting those players should provide a ready pool of Hami raiders.

While I wouldn't delete a toon over this, I do think people are being way to optimistic when they say "It's still in beta and subject to change."

No, it's in Beta, it's going to fix something they think is broken, and thusly it's going to be fixed barring the fix doesn't cause some major bug.

Now that said, I really do hope they decide to let it go and say it's now a feature of the Hami-Os.

Can builds be made out of the entirety of HO's? Of course! But IOs will still be better. And I do see a hit to people running Hami Raids, and possibly even STF and LRSF, as I've known people who ran them just for the chance at various HOs.

Not everyone does that of course, but it makes me wonder if less people will be willing to run them, when a lot of people run them based on rewards. *shrug*

If it goes through, it just means we modify our builds

It's not just that. They're now one of the best Def/End pieces. I have lots of builds that used Enzymes to save slots. I can still save the slots, but I need the best Def/End available to do so. Cytos will play a role in that, and I'll want to ++ them.

Good job devs on fixing a long standing and much abused exploit!

*plays tiny violin for all the exploiters*

Too be honest, calling this an exploit is over-stating it. I used the exploit because it was the one of very, very few situations where HOs were better than IOs (membranes in active defense, or low-slot defense powes). Those situations are gone now, meaning that I am down to one, maybe two situations I would use HOs. To be honest, enzymes were as powerful as cytos SHOULD be (33% def), in order to make them a viable option.

If HOs dropped from normal mobs, I would vendor them. Right now their rarity makes them valuable to min-maxers who want one more percent in a single power, but in the long-run they are less useful than even sets like Crap of the Hunter. I'm fine with exploits being fixed, even if they make a character of mine unfun to play, if HOs become a more viable build option.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

This is the dumbest "fix" they have ever done IMO. Considering how long it has been in the game I'd say it is a part of the mechanics by now. Same way how some fighting games have unintentional mechanics that get "exploited" but left in by the devs. This change will seriously bone ALL top end shield defense builds, and basically ALL top-end builds. I was coming back for Issue 22, but now knowing I would have at least 15 characters to respec due to a "fix" kills that feeling entirely. I don't even really care about the billions of influence this change is costing me, it's the time involved.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah cry me a river.. you used a KNOWN bug and an exploit to your advantage that the Devs said they knew about and were looking for a fix for and now they found a fix and you are gonna cry about it..

Love the way when something is in YOUR favor its part of the game mechanic now ( which its not ) and should be left alone but if it works AGAINST you it should be fixed and the devs are lazy and taking too long..

Sorry I have no tears when you utilize something you KNOW is horribly broken and WRONG and it gets fixed..

NONE...

This thread is like a support group for those addicted to Enzyme, a drug that's been majorly abused since Issue Nine (released nearly five years ago). So everyone retorting "lolsucks2bu", really? It may have been an "exploit," but it is also one that's been around for a very long time. People are due their chance to "/e crai" for a minute.

Don't loose hope, both 45% and 59% are still within reach! I know, I have both builds.

I just need a few L50++ Cyto's or L52 Cyto's and I'll be fine but I lost 4% resistance to everything

Oddly enough this fix has an impact on zero of my many top-end builds because I've never used it and wasn't planning to start. You seriously have 15 different shield characters?

If you think this is dumber than the GDN or ED or the many, many nerfings of Regen that were based on fallacious internal data, well... maybe you do play nothing but shield defense characters.

I agree so very much. Never did the SD HO thing myself but losing it's going to be a b*tch.

Still, after this... SR gets easy softcap, super DDR and the sweet, sweet Recharge bonus; SD gets AAO and Shield Charge and reasonably easy softcap. I'll be on my SRs /e flexing and Mids-ing up my FM/SD and BS/SD for maximum awesome with a clear concience.
