So basically what you've said is, "Do as I say, not as I do". How heroic.

Historically there are two types of revolution that can enact real change: violent, or peaceful. Of the two I prefer the peaceful route, which involves protests, petitions, and boycotts. Somehow I doubt that I'm the one who has done the disservice to your memories of this game.
  3. It's just what NCSoft wants you to do.

It was released 3 days ago, and I doubt they are making as much money as they expected, which is probably why they're shutting down CoH, in the hopes that many will flock to their newest game. Don't play into their hands, don't give any more money to a company that has sold you short.

Cease all business dealings with NCSoft, and at least have a clear conscience.
  4. I think that /Invulnerable Scrappers, leveraging the +to-hit from Invincibility, could easily reach 22%. Just a thought.

As a disclaimer: I didnt play the toon before 50, I used my /FA Brute to powerlevel him on my brother's account. I had to farm some tickets/prestige anyways so it was an occasion. I know I will be bashed all over the place to not go to the standart xp procedure but I really dont wanna enter this argument. I wanted to have an overall feeling of NA at 50 and the thread is just for power feedback.
Why should anyone listen to feedback about a new powerset from someone who admittedly has hardly even played it?
  6. I think you should play a Trick Arrow/Dual Pistols Defender.

    Have fun with that.
  7. My Staff/SR Scrapper is iTrial soft-capped(59+%) to M/R/A, has decent regen/recovery, and has his attacks fully slotted. Plus he has tons of recharge, enough to perma-hasten. Granted, the build is expensive, but still probably less expensive than many soft-capped resistance sets.

The only, and I mean only time I need to be cautious is against enemies with huge +To Hit: Rularuu, Cims and Nems when they've been Vengeance'd, DE with Quartz eminators out. I think those are about the only mobs I have to fight with any caution, but then who doesn't have some trouble with those mobs? Arachnos, Malta, Longbow, etc, I handle at +4/x8 with relative ease.

I like /SR because it's fun to be the only one still standing after your team has wiped(stone tank and all) and it's up to you to finish off the enemy. Yeah, it's kinda like that.
  8. After reaching level 50 and Alpha-slotting my Beast/Time MM I noticed that Dire Wolf's damage seems to be capped at about 70% instead of 100%. Is this WAI?

I haven't IO'd the toon yet, so I have 3 Damage SO's slotted(53, 50++, 50++), and without the Alpha slotted it shows about 64% Damage, while my other pets show 95% with 3 Damage SO's.

When I slot the t3 Musculature Core Alpha, my wolves and lions are showing 121% while my Dire Wolf only shows about 89.4% Damage. I spoke with another BM player and it seems like theirs is bugged also.

Can anyone else confirm that Dire Wolf is not enhancing damage to 100%?
  9. They're planning to probe Uranus next.
  10. Sure, but only if the t9 is "The Spanish Inquisition".

I'll bet no one was expecting that.

    Illusion/dark

Since you're going to want Hasten anyhow(to get enough recharge for perma-PA) just go with Shadow Fall + Super Speed and you'll be fully invisible. There are very few enemies that will see through this level of invisibility that won't also see through Superior Invisibility. Stealthing with Shadow Fall + SS is better anyhow, giving you(and your close teammates/pets) unsuppressed Defense, decent Resistance to several damage types, and protection from Fear.

I was curious about that myself so I took my Ill/Dark to one of the monster islands in PI to find out. I was fortunate in finding a lone one I could pull out into the water, but I wish I'd timed myself in bringing down the GM because I was never in any danger of dying.

It turns out that PA kept the GM pretty well taunted in my Tar Patch, nice and debuffed. I'm sure that any problem Tar Patch might cause with GM's/AV's running away would be similar for an Ill/Cold's Sleet, although the fact that Sleet causes damage to begin with(proc'd out or not) should cause creatures to flee Sleet more often I would think.

No doubt Ill/Colds are beasts that deserve mention alongside Ill/Rad and Ill/Dark, the main difference being that their -regen is single target, but they kind of make up for it with huge amounts of AoE -resist.

When I look at my current build I don't use many of the rad powerset so I was wondering on a performance basis how they compare.

    My main questions are :

    1. Will a Ill/Dark solo a GM as easily as an Ill/Rad
    2. Does having a Dark Servant make a difference
    3. How much will I miss lingering radiation

    Many Thanks
    1. Yes,. Consider that your general strategy will be the same with either: tank the GM with perma-PA, then seriously debuff both its regen and damage resistance. Whether one does it faster than the other will be up to the individual build and the player using it. With Darkest Night and Fade, along with all your other -to-hit powers, the GM will not hit you or your hittable pets very often, and when it does it won't hurt much.

    2. Yes. Dark Servant not only helps to keep you safe by reducing your enemy's chance to hit you, it also heals, it holds, and it AoE immobilizes. It is one of the best pets in the game.

    3. You won't. You will have Howling Twilight for -regen, which(unlike Lingering Radiation) will never miss. Not only will it never miss, but it also has the benefit of being an AoE stun, and should any of your comrades have fallen in battle, it's also an AoE rez.

I've played Ill/Rad, Ill/Storm, Ill/Time and Ill/Dark, and without a doubt my Ill/Dark has replaced my Ill/Rad as my "go to" character when I want to get the job done right. I still like my Ill/Rad, but I guess it's that I find myself doing just as much with my Ill/Dark, and then realizing that the whole time spent dominating everything in sight I've forgotten to even use my single toggle power. Yeah, it's kinda like that.
  16. One of my fondest memories of CoH is from an old(late 2005-ish) TV Respec trial on Freedom server when I was leveling up my first Tanker, an Inv/SS. Back in those early days of the Respec trial, I saw about 90% of them fail. I had gotten used to lying faceplanted as the reactor blew up with a feeling of utter helplessness. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, I kept at it.

We were doing the 2nd Respec with the Freakshow, this was of course pre-rep, so the main problem with the trial was the probability of overlapping waves.

We were doing pretty good, we must have made it to about the 7th or 8th wave when suddenly our core support and squishy characters took massive AoE and faceplanted, leaving myself and a Scrapper. It wasn't too long before the Scrapper joined the fallen, and I realized it was just me against 3-4 full groups of +3 Freaks. We were about to fail...again.

I remembered the importance of the Reactor Core, and watched as it nearly hit zero, then healed it with my temp power belt until it was back to full. Taunting and Footstomping I managed to kill quite a few Freaks and keep the others off the Core, but they just...kept...coming.

Eventually there must have been about 50-60 +3 and +4 Freaks, splitting their attention between the Reactor and me. My health kept dipping near zero, and Dull Pain kept coming back in the nick of time. I would taunt and run back for my red bubble, run back to heal the Core, and attack until I was forced to run for cover again. It continued like this for about 15 minutes until I ran over to heal the Core, which was at 25% falling fast, and realized I had just run out of charges on my belt!

Like a bat out of hell I ran to the control room, hoping there was still a belt temp there...and with good fortune, there was. I clicked on it, got about half-way through and was interrupted by a Juicer...the hordes were right on my heels! I popped my remaining insps and had enough defense/sheer luck to pick up the last belt. As I got back to the Reactor, it couldn't have had more than 2% left as I healed it, my team cheering me on in chat, and I was finally able to finish the remaining Freaks(within about five minutes).

Nothing else I've ever done in this game has compared to that moment. No story or explanation can do justice to that feeling of glory, of having the weight of the world dropped on your shoulders, falling to your knee, then standing back up again just to spite gravity.
  17. I wonder what his reaction will be when the magic mirror tells him about Snow White?

This game is just too easy now, mainly due to the Devs catering to the lowest common denominator. If something new presents any challenge at all then a large portion of the playerbase whines incessantly, and the Devs will change that content until it no longer presents any challenge. Unfortunately this is a continuing trend in the world of MMO's.

There are many examples of this happening, the old TV Respec trial, old LRSF, Praetoria(pre-Notoriety contacts). If the whining is loud enough, the content will become so simple that most players can complete it in their sleep. If you stack enough support(especially Res/Regen debuffs) the game's content will also become trivial. I think this is what happened with your pug group and the +6 AV, loads of debuffs will do that.

I still like this game, but for me a game becomes less fun when there's no possibility of losing. For others, a game is only fun if they can be assured that they will always win. To each their own I suppose.

  20. What you're really looking at is the difference between Illusion and Dark Control.

I've played Ill/Rad up to level 50, and my Dark/Rad is currently stuck in a holding pattern at level 42. Illusion is much more powerful, mainly due to Phantom Army's ability to grab and hold aggro from an entire group while you apply Rad debuffs. Haunt is nothing at all like PA. When you cast it the group's aggro does not go to the pets, it goes to you. This is a huge difference, as you have nothing but your big puppy to really take aggro, but unlike Illusion you don't get Invisibility from within the set, so you either have to use SS+Stealth Proc, or SS+Stealth, to be able to run past the group as your pet takes the alpha(and likely dies).

That said, I'm sure that if I ever get my Dark/Rad to 50 and IO the build it will be fairly strong simply because it's /Rad, but it will never be as strong as an equally IO'd Ill/Rad.

In the general case the condition should more properly be called altomania, altophilia or polyaltamy.
