Best server for pickups?
If you have global chat access, the global channels are a great way to find a team - on Virtue for example there is "Virtue LFG Beta". As I recall premiums get permanent access with Tier 3 of the rewards system - 5 tokens.
In the forum in each server's specific forum there are a list of global chat channels.

The most active servers are still Freedom and Virtue, so by default it would be easiest to get teams on those two servers.
Freedom is more active during East coast prime time, Virtue is typically more active during West coast prime time, from my own observation.

Aha! From what I remember that is true. That's where I have the other two characters that are not in Justice. I'll try there. Back in the day, I could assemble a pickup team within 2-3 minutes of logging in (:sad tear.. those were the days.
Stand by Ms. Liberty and try to join a "DFB." Those happen pretty frequently.
I don't know about Freedom or Virtue specifically, but as mentioned the global channels are currently where all the teaming action is at. Some free players have access to those, some don't. Look into your Paragon Rewards in game, it'll tell you. I think your tier has to be 3 or higher (that's 5 paragon reward points, iirc).
Otherwise, the Help channel is your best bet, as it's server wide.
Please buff Ice Control.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Texas Justice listed the two key channels for Justice. Get Both, the activity on each varies. Off hours can be a little slow, but I sure like the community on Justice.
There's a joke about Virtue Pocket D here but it's probably better left unsaid.

Between my somewhat weird sense of humor and the late hour, my first thought at the thread title was "there aren't any pickup trucks in Paragon City, only some weird vintage cars that ALMOST look like real ones, like the Buick Riviera boattail, and those small generic boxy Yugo-like hatchbacks."

30 level 50's: 12 scrappers, 7 other random melee types, 11 blaster/blapper/support squishies, two accounts, and a TON of altitis since 4/28/04
As others have said, Freedom, Virtue and lately Exalted VIP appear to be the most populated.
You could make sure your Looking for Team chat window is enabled, filling it in with a informative/funny remark can help also. Many's the time I dont seem to be getting invites I find that my LFT window is disabled, open it up and the invites soon come in.
There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown

Zippie,
I play on Justice, Virtue and Protector mostly, so I can only speak to those. Virtue is always hopping. Justice isn't as busy but it's still really active and I see a lot of other players. It was my first home here. Protector seems fairly sparse IME.

I think some other games have pick-up trucks.

I'll agree that Freedom stays the most active, with Virtue a close second, but there are other alternatives.
For blueside, Liberty stays relatively active; it's not Freedom or Virtue levels, but it offers an option for players who aren't as comfortable with the roleplaying on Virtue or the collective cognitive challenge that seems to be most prevalent on Freedom (but by no means limited to it).
If you like playing villains, Triumph remains a viable choice, with a pretty active redside most of the time. SFs, trials, even hami raids. It's much like Liberty in terms of activity and general caliber of play.
Just go with Freedom.
Levels 1-10 look in AP... levels 10-20 Steel Canyon (also, sewer trials forming regularly are still good for xp) ... Levels 20-30 look in Talos Island. Levels 40+ look in Parigrine Island.
I didn't list level 30-40 because, things slow up a bit there. Brickstown and Founder's Falls both sometimes have teams running Radio missions... and sometimes I'll go back to Talos Island and pick up teams there. Luckily in that range you're starting to complete your build and can generally fly though solo missions for good xp rate with nearly any well built toon.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
I'm thinking about coming back but last time I tried to come back I couldn't get a pickup team for the life of me. If I come back, what are the best bets for pickup teams or SGs? What about servers? What's this VIP server, is it more populated? I currently have like 6 characters on justice and one or two on another but I can't remember because I haven't played in more than a year, and it was like 4 years before that.
I would like to add that this was the best MMORPG I've ever played to this date, but if I can't find teams I can't play. I would absolutely love to come back but it would be nice if the servers were more populated.
