Discussion: PC Gamer reviews City of Heroes Freedom

PC Gamer has spent some time exploring the new features of City of Heroes Freedom, from the new player experience fighting Shivans in Galaxy City; to new early level missions and the Death From Below Trial; to checking out the revamped character creation. The review also goes into detail on what players receive at VIP, Premium, and Free tiers, as well as touching on the Veteran Reward System, so it's a great primer if you're new to the world of Paragon City, or are a returning player wanting to get caught up on all the latest developments in City of Heroes Freedom!

Head over to PC Gamer and give this review a read!

The article itself is pretty fair.

Why so modest when the review provides so many enticing pull quotes? What about "How free-to-play gaming should be done, in a superhero MMO thatÂ’s yet to be beaten for fun" or "one of the most generous free-to-play games ever"?

Congratulations on the good press. Here's hoping it leads to more VIPers.

My wife found this a few days ago.

I was impressed they actually...you know...played the game.

I remember that Game Informer GR review that was plagued with misinformation (I remember they kept claiming Cryptic was working on it still and they had been released 4 years ago).

Meh. It's probably a mistake on their part, but if I were writing a review, I might do the same. The MMORPG public knows what a guild is. They don't know what a super group is.

Oh and I think Paragon should thank their lucky stars that this got written before the Super Pack fiasco.

Saw this yesterday as well. Puzzled why it wasn't promoted.

Could do without the "evil testicle" caption on the picture. I blame the hip sarcastic spin that today's youth expect in their reviews.

I'm still trying to get a gaming community (263 on Facebook & over 15,000 on their website) people to give City of Heroes a try. However, its more likely 5 to 10 people would give it a chance.

Anyways, the review seems fair.

I was a PC Gamer subscriber a long time ago and I enjoyed their publication. I wish I had kept the issue that talked about City of Heroes.

This is a fair review, even with a few errors and talk about -guilds-.

This is more attention than I've seen Beckett give us.

I used to read my buddy's copy - the same guy who got me into COH 5 years ago - all the time. I loved their reviews as well as numerous articles on both hardware and software.

And I'm really impressed. An 86 (out of 100)? Way to go!

A slight change in the review is all it would have taken:

"...such as not being able to play user-created content in the Mission Architect mode or join supergroups (CoH's guild equivalent)."

Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine when people call supergroups guilds (even though they're practically the same damn thing).

I'm working through it though. My therapist says I'm getting better but I'm not well enough to let PCG slide from calling SGs guilds twice in that article.
