New Account Vouchers from Merit Vendors
Oh, that is NICE!
A way for Free players to access aspects of the game using in-game currencies. Fantastic move!
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
Unfrotunately, the description is slightly off....I'm assuming that first one should be the AH license.

need to be a certain tier to be able to gain the merits (tier 3?)

So free players can acquire reward merits without owning any extra paragon reward tokens? I thought they had to fill tier 4 to earn reward and vanguard merits if they're not a VIP.
If that restriction is still in place, it only really helps out those who haven't filled tier 7 for Perma-inventions and pointless to get a auction-house license because Tier 4 grants you perma-auction-house anyway.
It still opens up inventions a bit more, but it's still relatively restricted and judging from the amount of merits, extremely expensive. You'd probably have to work all the Taskforces every day in order to have enough to purchase the next 30 days of Invention use.

Unfortunately, you need 8 tokens to earn reward merits at all, so this doesn't do anything for the f2p crowd I suspect it's aimed at, unless they're also changing that requirement.
Holy crap, that is awesome!
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. Of course the question is, is this a global unlock or a per character unlock?

180 merits? That's 2-4 TFs a month as long as they're decent TFs and not trying to get them off of running non stop Katie Hannon TFs.

so i would assume its account wide
This seems awesome I'll have to look unless its just on beta?
I'm not seeing it unless its only seen by premium/free players at a merit vender
Yup, it's live. I don't play on the beta.
And didn't know about the gating on the reward merits, that's kind of weak :P Hopefully they'll change it, either let freebies earn merits or drop it down a tier or something.
But it's still a step in the right direction in my mind, offering something in game that's available on the market, moving towards a model of having players consider what's worth more, 3 bucks or the time involved in earning merits.
And 180 does seem steep but it's pretty manageable, running a character through the hollows up through Faultline and completing the different arcs therein rewards a fair amount of merits, I had a 150+ when I hit Talos on one character.
<= has 6,200 ish reward merits..... :3 so 180 doesn't seem like much
But still can't find that option to help a friend that is a premium player :/
Nope, I'm VIP and I was able to see it. Saw it on release day for the latest patch.
All should note that this is not functioning yet, and while it seems likely we'll see it "soon", it's not guaranteed, and those prices might change. I'm guessing it's a future feature that partially leaked out before it was fully functional.
Edit: I think 180 (360 for both) isn't really that much measured over the course of a month, unless it's someone who's not playing much. And if they aren't playing much, well, it may not matter how much it costs.
What I like about it is that it's a way for past subscribers to get bootstrapped back into IO access. They have a month where they won't have access unless they pay for a license, but once they have a license, they can use their fully armed and operational battl... er characters to roll on TFs more effectively.

Might just be something I didn't notice before, but when I hopped on tonight I hit up the merit vendors and found 2 new options. People can now purchase the Auction house and Invention System 30 day licenses for 180 Reward Merits.
Obviously means nothing to VIPs, but something handy for Prems and Freems that don't want to drop the cash. |
If it is to allow 30 days of being able to get large inspirations for 30 days, well that is a perk that you can get for completing tier 8.

I'm guessing the AH portion is for those who toggle between VIP and premium. Based on how everything else works you could earn thenmerits while VIP and possibly spend them while prem.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
Premium Players can only earn Reward merits after getting 8 Paragon Reward Tokens (approximately $75-$90 after tier 2), which also unlocks the lifetime Auction house.

Hopefully it means they're going to rework when reward merits can be earned.
