Stuff to buy to improve gameplay?

Hi,

so I look at all the "Stuff" to buy using points or tier merits or real money and am in a state of angst about what to start with.

I appreciate that any answers will be subjective but all info helps towards the decision making process.

I am not interested in anything "Costume" based, just stuff that increases an AT's power or abilities or indeed general gameplay assists like respec unsloters(for enhancements).

I mean stuff like enhancement enhancers, temp powers, special insps et cetera. Which gives more "Bang per Buck"?

What do you prioritise? What goes at the top of your shopping/wish list?

Am like the kid in the sweet shop with a handful of birthday money at the moment.

Thanks

PS. I have all 9 tiers filled so am also interested in which "Muti buy" tier 9 stuff seems best buy.

I see you're on a VIP account from your gold forum name, so there's not much else in the store to enhance your performance. You could get enhancment boosters, but they're terribly expensive to use on any meaningful scale. You could get the insps or temp powers, but spending points on single-use items is silly.

How many points are we talking about spending here?

If you don't care about buying any of the powersets (remember that Staff Fighting and Titan Weapons are coming "soon"), maybe stuff like XP boosters could be a good option?

The rocket board is kind of pricey but I'm glad I got it. There's just a lot of situations where I say "Gee I need to get to place X" and then I can whip out the rocket board. Handy little thing.

There are several threads discussing the enhancement boosters. In certain cases, they are noticeable improvements to performance. They can make two IOs almost do the work of 3 IOs (mostly due to ED cutting down the performance of the third IO). This can free up a handful of enhancement slots to be slotted elsewhere.

It would be like being able to slot another 3-5 extra enhancements.

The rocket board is very good, especially at low levels.

I have my eye on the +10 enhancement slots. That way, when doing a respec you can strip 20 enhancers off at a time. I run 2-3 mains at a time, all tricked out. When I get a new main, I tend to strip one of the old ones thru multiple respecs, pulling all enhancers off, and deleting the character. The extra slots mean that I could do it in half the repecs time.

I have bought some minor costume stuff, mostly stuff I wished they had in game for years.

The new power sets. I bought the Beam Rifle, now kinda wish I had not. Will not buy the melee combo set. I might get the Titan weapon set, but I hate weapons in this game, so prob not. This is due to redraw issues and my mind not understanding where the weapons are when not with the character. Sorry, i am a graphic perfectionist.

Most of the stuff that makes life easier for me are the vet powers. 3 vet attacks, team tp, base tp, reveal power, etc. Also, the buff from the magic pack, which is now available on the market.

Before I got the rocket board I leaned on the rocket backpack from Good vs Evil, and recently started supplementing with the steam punk jump pack. Also, I made trips to the 50 level maps for flight packs for all characters I ran a lot. Most of this paragraph boils down to "You will not regret buying rocket board"

*edit, I remember I also bought the ability to re-size characters off the market. Meant to buy it as part of the old science pack, never did. Again, I am a costume junky, and am constantly re-tweaking a look. Glad i did. i rarely need that much character modification, but when i do it is priceless, saves me a re roll and slog from 1st level.

Yea for me if I were going to focus on "improvements" I'd probably go for extra inventory for enhancements and, if I really felt the need, boosters to push my main those few extra % on specific enhancements.

I find beam rifle fun - I like the sound and visuals.

Street justice is treating me alright so far - it's combo system is a lot better than Dual blades, I think.

Windfall, xpboost and prestige boost did not impress me.

Dual and team inspirations are interesting, but not so much so that I was like ZOMG MUST BUY MOAAARRR!. The few I got free were a fun experiment. I'll probably never get more.

I'll chime in that the rocket board is awesome.

Unslotters I haven't used, all my characters need full respecs and so those aren't as handy for me. Anyone with solid builds might get good use from them.

Enhancement Boosts definitely have potential, BUT you need a lot of them. Even to get haste down to 2 lots instead of three you're looking at using 10.

I haven't had the opportunity to test the signature power or signature summon, but they look cool, but not worth a month's investment.

Beam has been pretty good so far. I know I'll get titan weapons because that's what I wanted out of BS way back on my very first character.

In the end, for me the best bang for the buck I've found were the extra storage items. I got one each of the enhancements, recipe, salvage and two of the auction house expansions. Dear god it is glorious and has totally improved the fun level. I rarely hit salvage full warnings or recipe full, as I am now just above the point where my storage fits my length of playtime available so hitting the market at the end of the session is just in time. and on my farmers the extra enhancement slots really cut down on trips to the crafting table and back.

I don't need to be more powerful, but not having to leave loot behind is very nice. And being able to buy/sell more is awesome.

Now that I think about it, I wish I had purchased some team purple inspirations for the Positron 1 TF. Those shadow versions of your team absolutely dominate people when you're in an uncoordinated team. Trying to make people pop inspirations is quite a feat as well.

Along these same lines, I'd suggest either Ninja Run or Beast Run, depending on which you think would work better for the majority of your characters. They're both effectively a mid-point between Super Jump and Super Speed, giving you about half the height and speed of each. They're also faster than the Flight power's speed cap right out of the box when used in conjunction with Sprint.

Ninja Run looks pretty awesome while carrying a sword, as well!

Just in case anyone's not aware, you can buy 2 of these, which means you have room for up to 30 enhancements in your character's tray at any one time (and yes, the purchase applies to all characters on the account).

On my second account, I will be picking up stuff I really like that my main account already has. That includes Ninja Run, Beast Run, and the powersets like Time Manipulation, Beam Rifle, and Street Justice. I would pick up Mystic Fortune if I didn't already have that booster on the account.

So not a lot of stuff I will actually purchase, at least in terms of gameplay improvements like you are asking for. I will also be picking up stuff like costume bundles, auras, and such, but nothing you are really looking for.

I am using the Enhancement boosters on my main, but only the ones I get from the Reward Tokens. I don't see myself spending money on them, at least not any time in the near future. The Windfall is somewhat enticing, but only somewhat, since I already find I level faster than I want most of the time. (I like redoing the story arcs, well, most of them.) They may become more attractive when I get some of my alts into the low 40s.

That is really all I have considered for the Tier 9 stuff. I am more interested in the VIP Tier 9 section overall.

Gameplay-affecting stuff I either have purchased or plan on purchasing:

- Rocket board. Very situational for me since once a character gets toggles (and most of my characters end up with toggles) it's more of a pain than a benefit. Still, a great boon to my lowbies.

- Enhancement boosters. I have one character in particular that has a tight build and could benefit from a few +5 IOs.

- The self rez temp power. Unlike even a large size Awaken, it has the all-important phase effect for a few seconds. I *LOVE* being able to rez in the midst of combat. Can't do that with normal Awakens since you'll be killed again almost instantly.

- The salvage/recipe/enhancement inventory increases. Just nice quality of life improvements. Makes crafting and respecs easier.

- Ninja Run or Beast Run. I already bought the booster packs for these but they're seriously good "lite" travel powers. Well worth the purchase.

- I bought one of my lowbies a Karma Knockback Protection IO from the store. It's not a question of being too poor to afford it from the auction house, it's a matter of supply. I love that the IO is automatically the right level for me. And it's account wide so if I tire of this character I can use an unslotter on it and email it to another character.

If you're looking to beef up your character's combat ability, Secondary Mutation gives your character a random mini-buff each time you cast it. While you can't predict what exactly you'll get out of it at any given time, it's almost always helpful in some way. (Recharge, End discount, To-hit, Def, among others)

This is why you don't cast it in the middle of a fight.

@Draeth Darkstar
Virtue [Heroes, Roleplay], Freedom [Villains], Exalted [All Sides, Roleplay]
Code:
I24 Proc Chance = (Enhanced Recharge + Activation Time) * (Current PPM * 1.25) / 60*(1 + .75*(.15*Radius - 0.011*Radius*(360-Arc)/30))
Single Target Radius = 0. AoE Non-Cone Arc = 360.

I thought that WAS the reason to use it during a fight. =)

What about the attuned IO sets? They sound great for people with more money than time (or patience) on their hands.

Would be if they had better options. Red fortune is the one that will probably get the most play of the ones they do have.

Just because a power has a downside does not make it useless. See: Hasten, Granite Armor, Rage, a number of Tier 9s, and although I don't see it some would say Vengeance. Now I will agree it isn't necessarily good for all characters past the low levels, but I wouldn't call it useless.
