Who Will Die Part 2 SSA - Thoughts
I have cleared away all his minions and when he spawns a batterling I kill that too, I have used all kinds of inspirations (reds, lucks, oranges, greens, blues you name it) I just couldn't kill him, but that didn't stop him from killing my pb toon a dozen times.

Then there's the extremely-temporary, less-than-one-issue "death" like States got between the first couple of issues of the Hickman run.

then promptly lobbed a ball lightning and booked it. O
Now my dominator, I'm kind of tempted to see what will happen when I throw a Seeds of Confusion into the crowd.
Enjoyed the arc, really liked the Numina picture despite some of the oddities in it, and generally liked the enemy power design. I have one complaint and that's the fact that the sensors were automatic based on location rather than using the ones from mayhem missions. I understand why but the other sensor really should be used more.
I'm calling it right here: Percy is the main baddie behind all this. He's using the obelisk(s) to steal a heroes power for himself, so that he'll never have to be rescued again.

Ever since I played through First Ward, every time I see that little weasel I want to jaw-pop him...
Wait...when did I kill Statesman?

I like both the releases so far, I have only done the red side on my dm/sd scrapper and I found them both fairly easy to solo.
I really hope that there is a death and a good old betrayal, perhaps one of the heroes BAB can align with the new enemy and force both hero and villain factions signature characters to work together in a AV / Hero mega mission. Im sure when the dust settles and all of the freedom phalanx, the vindicators and the recluse cronies are gone we can get our TFs from teller machines.
I thought we were suppose to be destined ones and all that, I mean I have a badge that tells me I am. I think its time for these Signature characters to find a quiet spot to die.
Just imagine if you as a hero had your sights set on the top job, well I have news for you and its all bad.

Is up. The contact in Talos Island was accepting missions, so I ran it not an hour or so ago.
Level cap seems to be 27, as I started it at 27 with my Necro/Dark Mastermind, hit 28 at the end of the 1st mission and remained exemp'ed at 27. Min level is 20 according to the market How does it play out? Nabad, pretty fun actually and the finale, while not quite as epic as part 1, has a pretty awesome locale for the final battle. I actually ran the first SSA before I ran this, since the character hadn't done it yet. Actually what made me try if Part 2 was open was running into a Supernatural event in Skyway City. Can't describe it more than that since... well, I don't think I did it right XD But I think the new Halloween event is live. Ooor it's just a new event period >> Mission 1 is short and just *nuts*. Just wave after wave! I don't look forward to trying to solo this with non-Masterminds, but shoouuld be plenty doable. Mission 2, pretty quick and easy, honestly nothing much worth mentioning, waaay easier than part 2 of SSA1. In fact overall I'd say this arc is easier than 1, the only actual spots I had any trouble with were the end of mission 1 and the start of mission 3. Mission 3... the opening map is a bit laggy, aaand it's easy to miss where to go, I spent a few minutes stumbling through, royally cheesing off all the guards XD but after that it went smoothly. The wormhole jumping is pretty cool and it was a HUGE eye boggle moment when i popped out in the final. Luckily... it's mostly a tease, but I won't spoil it. It was my first time seeing him in game so it was pretty 'omg they didn't!'. Again it ends with an Elite boss who.. I dunno, my zombies didn't have much trouble with him, bit easier than Lemkin since he had the super speed and the mass PBAoE knockback. I'm not even sure what tricks, if any, this guy has. And the story? It's alright, kind of interesting since it involves the Midnight Club and the Rulu-shin. It really focuses on Tommy Arcanus rather than Numina, in fact, I don't think she appears at all in the whole arc. And another hook with Mr. Teller in the back of a bar and some more foreshadowing. The Rewards table is the same as it was for SSA1. So how does it rate? Not bad. It doesn't have quite as epic as feel as the first one, but it's got some pretty decent flavor and there aren't any flaws like the first episode had. Everything is pretty straight forward and the mobs aren't too absurd (your mileage may vary, especially mission 1. WAVES!) |
1... very doable my 32 level SJ/WP Brute has soloed it twice, The first time he actually soloed taking out every wave before it got near the back room and the Midnighters and the second time was a breeze with the help of the Midnighters.
2. Yeah I liked the crypt map they used but basically it was pretty simple and on my 2nd run through i answered all the Wisp's questions right and din't even get the ambush there.
3. Biggest problem I have here is they tell you when you enter TRY not to arouse supicion. Okay by my second time I knew where the file cabinet was and what drawer to access to open the secret passage but you can't just wander back there and do that.. first you have to alert the security guards and beat some up. So much for being discreet. I enjoyed the worm hole effect as well and the EB at the end was mildly challenging one on one but In popped a few inspirations to keep my health up and he was down and out.
I have to say your level cap info seems off to me. Like I said I have run this a number of times now with some different characters. My 31 level Brute was exemplared to 30 and so was my 50 level MM. Then of course they got to continue to use power selections up to level 35.
I agree.. I do like this one better than the first and enjoy the inclusion of a new villain group. the Rulu Shin proved very interesting and I'd enjoy seeing them used more in other areas. I am just a bit curious though.. If they are a group that is devoted to Rularuu and come from the Shadow Shard .. how did they get here. Last I checked General Hammond and his men at Fire base Zulu were protecting the only known link between the Shard and our world so did these guys slip past the guards or is there a secret portal someplace else we need to be looking for so we can seal it.
I'm interested to see what we get next time

Tried to solo it on my stalker, but that end boss packs a huge punch, even with bucketloads of luck he crushed me
enjoyed the arc, the final boss was scary. He tore through Rock twice WITH sonic buffs, which is just absurd. eventually i locked him down and finished him off.
Thoughts on the story: less interesting to me than the first time around, mostly because numina felt sort of like an afterthought to the whole thing. The locales were great tho. im very glad we didnt have to go out further into the water during the final fight.
Thoughts on the arc as a whole: since they flat out stated that the means there were using wouldnt affect Numina, she probably wont die. probably a red herring, but who knows. I still stand by my stance that Manticore wont die, he's too pivotal to certain story arcs to eliminate without some hilariously goofy rewrites (Silos anyone?). overall, i still think itll be Positron or Statesman, because Citadel and Sister Psyche are too easily fixable and feel like giant cop-outs.

Then they became interactable and murdered my face. It was pretty funny.
I have to complain about some things. I've only read pieces of this thread and maybe one of the others, so apologies if these have been discussed to death.
1) Are the SSAs not tested? This is a serious question. Do they not go to the Test server? I've gone the villain-side mission twice with my Villain Scrapper. The first time, I attacked the group guarding the thing in the back of the vault, and two of the enemies immediately ran off and jumped into the ceiling.
The second time, I attacked the group and one ran off and immediately jumped in the ceiling. I'm playing on +2/+3; I can't kill everyone in one hit before they can even move.
I petitioned both times. I didn't see the option to abandon the mission, and I didn't realize the Quit TF button was in the Team window, so I thought I was stuck. I waited for the response each time, so they're at least quite aware that it is an issue. However, what good would resetting the TF have done for me? From my perspective, if you don't alpha all of the enemies, at least one of them is going to run off and jump in the ceiling 100% of the time.
2) Rezzing Rulu-Shin are annoying. Try as I might, I just can't seem to kill all LTs before they get at least one rez off.
3) The Elite Boss made Lemkin look like a chuuuuump. I died a couple of times, then had to jump back through the portals. It was annoying, but a nice challenge (I just wish I had Revive for the first time on my /Regen.
4) My guess for who is behind all of this? Cynically, I think they're trying to kill off Statesman - He's the heroic personification of the former developer, why keep him around? I think they'd like to besmirch his name beforehand, so I thought he would be the one planning the deaths of the other Freedom Phalanx members. However, the dialogue we've seen in the SSA cutscenes wouldn't necessarily fit Statesman, so I suppose not.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
All I could think of when I ran this arc was The Bowler from Mystery Men.

I like the new picture of Numina, makes her look good for a dead folk.
I might have missed something, but not sure why the Rulu-Shin are in the Abyss...I took it that they're trying to harness Hamidon's power (he's becoming the new Terra Volta reactor...everyone wants a turn) or somesuch, I'll read the clues a little closer next time.
Overall I enjoyed the arc. Still think it's Nemesis/Cole though.

I'm surprised people had trouble soloing this; I did it just fine solo on my defender, which I use as my measuring stick. If defender solos just fine while exemped, everything else I have should be good, too.
I enjoyed the cameo that ponytail guy made in the last mission.
The last fight was definitely tougher, and I dislike missions that have a 'stand around and wait for ambushes' component, but they spawned and died quickly enough.
Overall I give it an A, because the awesome factor outweighs my minor dislikes.
The first mission is weird, in that... Why did Darryn Wayde show up? Doesn't he want to "bring Rularuu to the here and now?" Why does he have Warshade powers? Still, the standoff was cool, and it was nice to see Montague actually doing something, other than being murdered by Master Midnight.
|
I WANT THEIR GEAR! |
The last mission was even more weird. I didn't know I could speak with anyone in there, and I didn't go into the vault because... The rest of it is portal-hopping, and I'm happy to see the Horta Vines being used. I do wish they'd get a bit better graphics, though, as they remind me of the Xen teleporters from the OOOLD original Half-Life. Still, nice idea. Ending up in the Abyss was a cool move, as well, and without actually letting us reach the Hamidon, I don't think. The elite boss at the end was kind of annoying, as I realised all too late that the lieutenants could heal him to full. Oh, well. Still beat him without dying. |
Also... Why did a man named Tommy name his daughter Tammy? Did he WANT their names to be confused for each other? |
