What I'm wondering is if the Rularuu = eyes thing is part of the original Rularuu canon for the game, or a recent development. As far as I can remember, the eye focus started when Back Alley Brawler made the Rularuu weapon models, and according to him he didn't even intend to make Rularuu weapons. He said that he had the idea for the look, and it wasn't until after he noticed that the weapons' prominent eyes reminded him of Rularuu Watchers that they got the Rularuu weapon names. Also, in the Shadow Shard and its missions, eyes never show up as an important symbol to Rularuu. His aspects certainly don't display any eye-like markings.
That's because we haven't met that aspect yet: "Aloore the Watcher: Aloore is Rularuu's most trusted Field General. He guards The Palace and uses his Sentries to keep watch over the entire Shadow Shard. Of all Rularuu's fragments, Aloore is most similar to Rularuu himself. This makes him skilled and useful, but also dangerous, because Rularuu is not built for servitude."

Also: I might be wrong from the promo, but given how they were talking about how we could affect things and change the world permanently via phasing tech... I was wondering if they're not going to *let us* pick Who Will Die.

Zwil's fairly repeatedly gone on record as saying they have a plan for who it'll be, specifically, so I don't see that happening. I think the most we can hope for is the trigger in our hands in the final villain arc.

Storm Elementals are Lanaru the Mad's creations, though, and even the Wisp will tell you that Lanaru is separate from Rularuu. That's not to say they're different people; Lanaru is still an aspect of Rularuu, but it seems his madness and his rebellious disobedience may have granted him a measure of actual freedom.

I really need to bring up the Verse of Lanaru from the Faatim TF...

Silos is a flashback and wouldn't need to be rewritten. The only thing that would be at all difficult to rewrite would be Twinshot's arc.

Yes, because the Storm Elementals are very cool. The SSA so far has nothing to do with the Coming Storm.

Assuming that our unknown guy is someone we know...

-Recluse already has power-siphoning tech. I also doubt he'd be the kind of guy to hang around in a bar.

-One of his LT's? Might be.

-There's the entire Imperious/Sister Airlia connection, that might tie into Ghost Widow somehow. (they're somehow linked) but it doesen't quite feel right.

-I Doubt Mako or BS is smart enough to pull something like this off.

-It fits Scirocco's area of expertise (most of the stuff's been magic-based) but it doesen't feel like his MO.

-Somehow I can't see Nemesis hanging around in a bar. Although there's always the option of an Automaton.

-Darrin Wade was involved in the plot and didn't act like they thought he would. Seems unlikely.

-One of the Council guys? The Center or Requiem? Feels a bit too subtle for them, and again, not really their MO.

-Protean? This kind of manipulation and double-dealing *feels* like him.

-Someone from Praetoria? Doubtful. There's not much Praetorian imprint here. It might be Diabolique I guess, but still doesen't feel right.

I wondered that about Wade too. I figured either he's running a much larger gambit than the Rulu-Shin, or while he's all for Rularuu coming and eating everyone, he's still against the Rulu-Shin because they're a bunch of splitters.
Yes, but can he write "Rulu-Shin Go Home!" in Latin?

Hey. The dude from the cutscene is in the last mission hero-side. Do we know who that guy is yet?

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

If that happens, I, who play exclusively blueside and have only one villain (to play with my husband when he INSISTS we have to go play over there) will take EVERY FREAKING ONE of my characters redside to kill States, if he is indeed the one to die. Count on it.

For general lore reasons, if the killing blow is done by the player and not an NPC, they'll probably need to make the identity of the killer unknown to the rest of the game world, otherwise it'd be very difficult to write the offical story of what happened to the one who dies.

You'd also have to cut him out of the LRSF and do some rewriting on Westin Phipps's "Bane of the Heart" arc.

Ok I finally finished the arc, although it was on my MA/Regen scrapper and not my PB, oh well then I ran it redside with my brute. Yeah the arc was pretty good. I have this sneaky suspision that the Leviathan will play a part in all this, I don't know why though.

The final EB is quite susceptible to knockback / knockdown. Used Focus and Shockwave with my Claws/Dark scrapper to keep him on his backside instead of swatting me with that axe.

The contact does not look like a Luddite. He looks like an anime ninja.

WHY IS HE WEARING A FEDORA?

The Rularuu Shin. Rularuu Ninjas?

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!#

Did marketing tell you to make enemies only out of purchasable parts?

Where is Numina?

OH WE FORGOT NUMINA IN THE NUMINA-THEMED ARC! QUICK PUT HER IN THE LAST MISSION SOMEWHERE!

Seriously what is this? This is just lame fan fiction.

Good point. But in that case we can narrow down which of the Surviving Eight it's not.
It's a good chance Synapse, Numina, Statesman, Manticore, Sister Psyche and Aurora are off that list.

The Hero arc of this didn't feel all that exciting. Jumping around portals was fun but the rest of it was pretty dull. We were chasing Numina's Dad's skull because it's important and ... we get the skull back and all is well.

Yay.

I've heard the Villain Version is a lot better.

Ehhh. Your mileage may vary.

Mission 1, aside from the confusion with Wade, ends on a much more epic note where you're fending off swarms of Rulu-shin with the other midnighters. For villains this mission isn't even 5 minutes. You go into the vault, kill the lone mob, get Tommy's baseball cap, then the Midnighters teleport in with a big mob of animated armors and you promptly flee (or take them off, for the villainously insane, but the mission is over by the time they show up)

Mission 2 is the exact same for both sides.

Mission 3 is almost entirely the same, except Villains have to break into Stein's vault and fight a giant eye monster, then it's the exact same except at the very end where you can threaten to crush Tommy's skull and Numina will give you a temp power in exchange for not doing so.

Those are the only differences really.

I really enjoyed this arc. Coincidentally, I'd just spent the day reading paragonwiki's articles on the Shadow Shard TF's, so Rularu was fresh on my mind. It never occured to me that he might have human cultists trying to free him, in addition to his monsters, so stumbling across them in the first mission raised the tension immediately. The second mission was cake, since I'd studied the lore earlier in the day. The last mission completely sold me on the idea of "avoid suspicion" -- I even turned on walk, to suppress my taunt aura, since I didn't know what the game would consider "suspicious". I really felt like a superhero sneaking around in his secret identity. And as intended, I was racing through the boom tubes only to yelp out loud and come to a screeching halt when I suddenly saw the glow of the great scientist's mitochondria.

Mechanically, I was greatful that at 30(+5) I had a full attack chain and most of my mitigation in place. The waves of Cthulhu ninjae in mission one was wonderful. (I just wish I had let them take out Kadabra Kill. I can't count how often he's arrested my villains.) The EB at the end was the only time my DM/WP scrapper noticed his green bar move at all. I also enjoyed dealing with the sphinx, and the infiltration. I hope they use creative gimmicks like those in future missions.

I hate that the Rulu-Shin are becoming something legitimate in CoH putely by virtue of us talking about them.

Can't we just collectively pretend they don't exist? Rularuu ninjas. Way to jump the friggin' shark.

They are a standard lovecraftian cult, whats the problem with them?

What's wrong with crazed cultists trying to free an insane god to devour the multiverse?

I think you're thinking about it too hard.

They weren't ninja. They're more like the Legacy Chain, but following Rularuu.
