The first issue of the new Catwoman series looks like an all-around embarrassment, something to be hidden under a mattress rather than shown to a potential new audience (in retrospect, that's what Selina's Big Score probably should have been).

Oh, and some wiseacre has come up with a meta-parody comic epilogue to that awful splash page (NSFW language).

I don't know much about Flashpoint. I went into the comic store, bought some comics, and decided against any of the flashpoint titles, as I thought..."Why bother? They're relaunching everything."

So correct me if I'm wrong, but from a lore standpoint, isn't the new DCU because Flash had to put it back together the best he could...and thusly from a lore standpoint, Starfire is this way, because that's how he see's Starfire?

If so: Damn, Barry. That's cold, dog.

No... that would make more sense.

Barry went back in time to stop Zoom from killing his mom and pulled in all the speed force which shattered time and then Barry went back in time again...collecting all the speed force again... and stopped himself from doing that and thus mended time... and then some one smashed 2 other universes into the DCU while Barry wasn't looking... and thus all the changes...or not changes... or whatever.

I keep wanting to give the DCnU a chance. But the more of this crap I see (and let's be honestly it's a BODACIOUS pile of crap at this point), the less likely I am at ANY point to finally break down and buy one of their new books.

At this point, I no longer have a pull list. During reboot and "event" pushes like this I cut all pulls. All the DC titles that interested me are gone or have been so jacked up in this reboot that I have exactly zero interest in following them anymore. I'm praying for the stupid "Fear Itself" event in the MU to end so I can see if there's anything I still want there.

Otherwise, I save a butt-ton of money every month.

Thank you Marvel!
Thank you DC!

Hahah! Double Entendre...

As to the relaunch...

Stinks of Desperation.

It's like that guy who goes to the bar and hasn't had a girlfriend (or boyfriend, maybe substitute "physical contact"?) in five years. The women (or men) in the bar pick up on that and avoid him like the plague. Which in turn leads to even more desperate tactics on his part. It's a vicious cycle that can only end with the equivalent of someone in jail saying, "She didn't look like no cop...".

Stopped buying DC.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

They still haven't figured out that people don't actually WANT "new and different".

Oh, people THINK they do. They will claim they do if asked. But the reality is most of the population really wants more of the same, even if they can't admit it to themselves.

Granted, you can't be too obvious about it, you need to dress it up so it seems like it's new and different on the surface. But underneath it really needs to be the same or it won't sell.

People prefer the familiar and known. It's not a new concept.

Dan Didio & co. certainly don't want new and different. They want Barry Allen back as the Flash, Barbara Gordon back as Batgirl, Hal Jordan back as Green Lantern, etc., etc., ignoring basically the entire post-Crisis generation of readers who have their own nostalgic attachment to the pre-DCnU status quo. They've entirely forgotten the Modernist adage about the creation of art with respect to the legacy of tradition: "Make it new!"

Pneumatic pinup reject from the 90s is for those already buying DC comics, or at least All-Star Batman. If the editorial line says the DCnU is supposed to attract new readers - especially younger ones since the current fan demographic is noticeably aging - then the question of familiarity is much broader. In the case of Starfire, the biggest exposure the character ever received was the award-winning cartoon Teen Titans series, which Cartoon Network's #1 weekly show and was watched by millions of kids and which was based mainly on the "golden age" of Marv Wolfman's run on the comic with George Perez. That's the version of the character that's "familiar and known" to their biggest potential audience.

DC's editorial decision to recast the character as a roofied-up alien Real Doll may have generated enough controversy to sell out the premier issue, but where sales stand in a year remains to be seen.

Well, based on talking to my local comic shop people, this is not going at all well for DC. Yes, the #1's sold out (I kind of expected that) but the backlash against Red Hood is huge. I doubt it'll remotely make it to six issues, let alone three. Superman, whilst written by a man I hugely admire in George Perez, is unfortunately out of step with the 'new and fresh' vibe the line is going for.

In my local store, I didn't see very many if at all of the #2's moving off shelves. I browsed titles, thought Huntress whilst putting her where she should be as the daughter of Earth-2's Batman and Catwoman, was a pedestrian title. And unfortunately the better written titles feature characters that don't interest me to look at casually.

DC's pretty much lost me though Action Comics is faintly amusing. But I don't think it'll be long before we're back to the status quo...the only thing I could live with is updates to costumes (I don't actually mind Superman's new look) and some evolution of characters. Oh, and keeping Earth-2, which I always wanted back anyways.

3 words?

Needs retconned back

I've read issue 1 and 2 every title and with a couple of exceptions (Animal Man, Batman) the vast majority of titles are either mundane or downright poor.

This is not the DC Universe that I know, and I for one will not be buying into it.

If it's a marketing ploy by DC generate a massive sympathy vote for the return of the 'real' DC Universe (and boosting sales when it happens) then it's great business.

Somehow though, I get the feeling that this isn't the case.........

Sadly, I get the sense that it's all being pushed by WB in an attempt to overhaul and streamline DC comics before they take a crack at a movie universe. It's unfortunate that they're establishing a foundation that doesn't ring true with the longtime readers that turned these characters into icons and if this is the tone and style they plan and going with for DC superhero movies from here on out, it's gonna blow up in all of their faces and essentially do to superhero films what was done to comics in the 90s.

I'm seeing less and less reason to buy DC.
