Then i went ingame and i went BOOO!!!
Now i understand you have to limit new and vet players, but locking out /whispers and majority of trade, while letting them have acces to /help channel.. this aint working.
Help was being spamming by retarted WoW kiddies, rofl n00b people and a huge discussion about AE versus 'normal gaming', while nearly every question from new/returning players was ignored.
Serious there need to be some moderation on these channels, the 'helper' tag is worth _nothing_. People just randomly reply to questions, useless trolllike replies, other people just spam away or tell them to l2p the game.
Helper title should be earned, but should also be very known among new players, so they can rely on the answers, telling people to go 'hunt fake nem in PI' if they ask where to go at 21, is just sad.
I probably gonna disable help on most of my toons, this aint what i wanted to see happening to 1 of the best communities out their, hell even Barren chat is more civilized.

Gained 1 returned friend. 1 brand new friend playing
Lost 2 potential returnees. Still trying to convince 1 other friend to 'give it a shot'.
The one friend that returned, he was a high enough tier to have everything he wanted, having played for 3 years off/on. Freedom impressed him so much he went ahead and resubbed AND plunked $15 on the store for bling!!!
The other one is in informational overload. Having never played an MMO before it's slow going, so the restrictions don't matter as much.
I really wish he had /Tells though, and ability to accept my dang influence trade...
Having to go all the way back to the core fundamentals for him, I mean core as in W is forward, Conning etc. Makes me realize just how complex our game has become over the years. We evolved with it so we take it for granted how daunting learning all this could be to new players.
We take it for granted.
Keep that in mind when arguing over the restrictions on true new. It's nearly impossible for us to grasp how daunting this game might seem to those unfamiliar with it. I'm overly emphasing that there isn't a rush, take your time so he doesn't get discouraged and go back to farmville. However, this is with a real life friend. Bridging the gap with complete strangers takes more.
We need more ways to assimilate the new players into out ranks Dev's. Get with marketing, do what you have to. You have a tremendous free resource in recruiting through us, the ViP's. Consider creation of a channel specifically for Free players, if nothing else it will ease the clutter on Help.
I understand that it only cost $5 to unlock these chat functions. I understand this but they do not. I have no easy way of communicating that fact to them either. If a $5 transaction could potentially cost my company $100's by 'turning them away at the door' then I'm going to waive that fee.
I'm not saying give them free reign over the air-waves either. Being able to /Tell and having a dedicated channel with the ability to accept trades would be more than enough!
Helper title is not only useless as it currently stands, it's actually dangerous. Help me should be avail to all at creation. Helper should be earned somehow, perhaps even monitored. I shudder at how many griefers are sporting Helper titles these days.

So now that it's out, is there any more information about 'Premium In-Game Customer Support'? for VIPs? Is this a simple case that the existing support is only available to VIPs or will we see a noticeable increase in the quality of support that we get now?
Apparently, according to the forums I'm not.
I'm being screwed. This is a slap in the face. This is not the way to retain me as a customer. Other people became VIP through much less effort. The devs don't listen. Don't pee your yellow name down my back and tell me its raining. This should have been included in Going Rogue. This is just a naked attempt to squeeze more money out of me. Other MMOs would have made me a VIP by now. The community team should be ashamed. I deserve a refund. This is like buying a sink and then one day the sink needs a new drain stopper because the peel from the banana split you ate yesterday got stuck in the screen but now your cable company wants to charge you for ESPN 3 and you won't be able to watch Jamaican hockey because you spent all your money on a new drain stopper and its all Home Depot's fault. |
You earned it.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
Personally, I think if you list yourself as a helper it should open you up to tells from anyone.
|
I rather see some 'interaction' from the GM team, they select a few dedicated ingame helpers or sortlike being tagged specialy for Q&A with newbies and returning vets.

Okay....
So what's with the Gold "VIP" name thingy?
If you go into the User Control Panel, you'll see a section called "group memberships".
If you're a paid subscriber you'll have the option to select the VIP group. Your name will turn gold and your forum title will become VIP, rather than the post-based rank it is now.

I gave up on the help channel long ago, once I realized people were putting on the helper tag and then treating the help channel as if it was just any other global channel for their entertainment. Discussions about sports, movies, game stuff, AE arguments, abound. But there's very little help. And heaven forbid anyone actually ask for help - they get demolished by know-it-all helpers who can't pass up the opportunity to deride a "noob".
I can't help but wonder how many legitimate new players may be driven away by the "help" they get in the help channel.

The helper and help-me titles are mainly chosen by veterans for the colors, not because they either wish to help people or need help. In that, they're worse than useless. The times I tried to help people with "help-me" I got put off by their replies. And I expect that if someone who used the "helper" title just for the color got a lot of questions from people who wanted help on that basis, their patience might wear thin fast.
I'm not sure why the help channel gets the off-topic spam, but it's a problem too. There should be some other channel, server-wide and accessible to everyone, for general "chatter", and some way to dissuade people from using the help channel for spam and such. Can, or should, we report blatant non-help use of the help channel as spam?
What an awesome trailer. I linked it to both my Facebook and Google+ accounts!

And then I would send someone to their house to shoot them in the face.
Which is probably why Zwillinger is a community coordinator, and I'm ... not.

"Helper" should only unlock after some arbitrary time that people would argue over; frankly, I think "Help Me" should LOCK after a certain amount of time, but I do realize that wouldn't be at all fair to returning players.
As it is, if I see "Help Me" over a player's head with a couple of year's worth of vet badges, who says something like "I just like the color LOL" I wonder what sort of person plays with their own name displayed and just walk away. If someone can't tell what character they're playing by their costume and power trays, especially after they just saw the character name and AT at log-in, maybe they should spend more time at Icon or something.
