This needs to be fixed.

Today my premium new player friend contacted me to tell me she was stuck.

She had used the find contact option to TP into The Hollows, and as a hazard zone you have to click to exit you can't walk out.

I was able to tell her how to fix this very quickly, however new players are going to be stuck in a hazard zone if they don't think to try and click around.

Don't you have to click on the door in the tram to enter it? Don't you want to click on the portal in Ouro to leave it? Don't you have to click on doors in pocket D to enter/leave there?

I'm not seeing the issue here, as basically all modes of transportation between zones require clicking something.. Why should hazard zones be any different?

The hollows, you have to click on a police man's crotch to get out. Even though the 'doors' are wide open. Some how crotch clicking doesn't seem an obvious way of traveling between zones.

Thought you can click anywhere, the police guy, the door, the barbed wire, basically anything within like 5 ft of the entrance/exit..

Is the problem that the only clickable area is down by the security guys shoes?

I dont think its a major problem, but I also dont think its a big deal to change. The only reason you have to click is because hazard zones used to be gated by level, and didnt they change that? So really they could just do away with that and let us walk in.

No, where you can click depends on where you're standing.

Consulting an obvious NPC (as you would a trainer, contact, or vendor) is reasonable.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

The Hive is still level-gated and you can run through it as long as you're the appropriate level.

I still try to just walk through the hazard zone doors. I usually have to furrow my brows a moment before remembering "oh, I have to click the guy". And then because I'm right up against the barrier I either have to back away or play with the camera angle in order to find something to click.

And then I don't go to a hazard zone again until I'm working on a new character, by which point I've forgotten and the cycle repeats.

Now that I've got a couple years under my belt (and a worrisome proclivity for Talshak's trial), it's tempting to hand-wave and mutter about how obvious this should be.

But, yeah, thinking back on things...I remember, two years ago, excited and anxious to be entering my first zone away from Atlas Park...I must have fumbled around and backed up and walked forward and clicked around in front of me for some pathetic five minutes before I thought to click on the swat officer.

As a guy, even if I'm playing the females, I'm not terribly happy clicking the pants area of the cops. Seems... unseemly.

I agree, this should be fixed... and while we're at it, make all the trains like they were in King's Row, before they 'fixed' it. The train stayed in the station, and it was always clickable, and it just took you, no waitin' for the train.

And the thing in my signature, while I'm at it.

"And I need you to grab my crotch!"

I just went and looked since it's been a while. I can click anywhere from head to foot on the Police, from various distances and perspectives.

More importantly, there's a sign above their heads reading "Attention! You are now leaving a Paragon protected zone. Please present your security clearance card." While it doesn't sound right on both sides of the gate (and it is there), it's still a clue that the NPCs might be worth investigating.

Some people will need specific instructions not clues.

Letting someone TP in using find contact and leaving them to figure out how to leave through the wide open door that doesn't work is weird.

The gates to the Hollows and Perez have been buggy for quite some time. Depending on the angle of your toon in relation to the officer the 'click zone' can cover the entire cop or be just a sliver of a line.

If I'm turned slightly it seems I can click anywhere right off. If I'm facing straight at him, I always have to search for the clickable area and yes... It usually ends up being only at his crotch.

Though in fairness, I haven't been in either zone in a few issues at this point.

As someone who does know how it works, I still think it should be changed.

Before I got a totally sweet computer, I would frequently alt-tab out to another program (reading forums etc) while zones loaded, then alt-tab back in, click something, and find that my mouse happened to land on the policeman and would immediately send me back into the zone from whence I came.
I agree it is also nonintuitive that you should have to click on the policeman to change zones because, as they aren't really NPCs (they don't have names, they can't be selected, etc), they look more like the background.
The only other thing I can think of that you frequently click on to change zones, that doesn't bring a pop-up menu and doesn't have an animation associated with it, is the Ouroboros portal, which is much more obvious (and actually can be targeted, anyway).

It's not a major thing but I do see how it can be confusing and/or irritating. Maybe if they made it like the tunnels where just running past the guards will send you into the next zone, or like the entry into the RWZ where you click on the portal and it gives you the list of "Rikti War Zone, RWZ 1 - n, Cancel".

You're right. This needs to be fixed. They'll have to patch the noob right out of your friend.

If anything was to be changed or added, I think that having the NPCs say something as you approach would be enough.

That's actually a graphics mix-up. If you go check out all the hazard zones, you'll see most of them have it right by stating "You are now entering a Paragon protected zone" when you're on the hazard zone side. The very first time I entered the Hollows, I too noticed the sign there was wrong (it said "leaving"), and sent in a bug report. A GM replied to thank me and said he'd forward it on. That was two years ago.

The mouse cursor changing to a hand as you pass it over them is another clue.

Believe me I'm trying, but a lot of this game seems so obvious to me now I keep forgetting to tell her things.

You mention that your friend is a Premium player which to me means someone that was here before and has returned now that they can play without paying. Okay I am the first to admit its entirely possible that your friend had never visited the hollows before.. After radio missions hit and players could run to Kings Row grab a police band radio and run mission there the Hollow's popularity dropped rapidly.

But I still can't help but wonder why they had such a hard time at the gate. Yes it isn't clearly marked but anyone with any amount of game time knows if you move your cursor around enough eventually you find the right spot to click . Now as to the location you find yourself forced to click on to get out at times I agree.. needs to be corrected somehow. LOL I have never been crazy about clicking that cop's crotch to leave and I was a Taxibot back before Raptor packs. I spent a lot of time pulling shifts in the Hollows and tping folks to and from missions. I have had to LEAVE the Hollows a LOT!

Hope your friend enjoys being back abd doesnt run into too many situation like that in the future.

A new free player who has bought points is also Premium.
