Dev Chat Highlights, September 22: Flipping the Bird with Positron during the Downtime
It was either message Zwil and tell him the name was available where he wouldn't get the message from me till many hours later and the name might have been snagged by another person to use for griefing (like the previous owner did) or snag the name to be sure that it got in the right hands.
pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats
Arachnos Commander: actually, I am
pohsyb: I mean you kinda were one already anyways ^_^
Arachnos Commander:
Gee, I always thougth that male widows were called widowers. And also in Z's defense, I've been here since release and never assumed that Widow VEATs could be male since there are no NPC male widows that I have ever seen in game.

Oh wow. I've been playing the game since the day it launched, and I didn't know that. Never even thought to try it.
Everyone seems to be getting on Zwill's case about not knowing something about the game.
The game is BIG. Everyone misses something. I told a designer the other day that you can combine two enhancements that are already IN a power (i.e. not including one in your tray) and they had no idea that was in the game. Been there since launch (or a little after), not many people know it can be done because the UI was set up for simplification in this case. |

There have, historically, been a number of threads that have argued the whole widow/widower thing. Also, does no one remember the promotional photos for I12? It was only 2008...

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
How could anyone who's watched Zwill for as long as he's been here - find it hard to believe that he'd miss such a thing as VEAT genders?
And I say that lovingly, Zwill!
Sheesh... never admit to not knowing something!! It will prove your complete unworth!!
Thanks again, again, again, again, again, again, Von Krieger!
And shame on you, Zwill, for NOT mentioning VK's transcription during the ustream!!!

Read what Posi wrote: you can combine two enhancements that are already IN a power slotted. I didn't know that. I figured once they are in the power they are there for good.
Then what was he deliberately implying?
How long has that designer been with the game? I can forgive people that in the days of IOs, but that was the big min-maxing move for years in this game. So long as he was new, it's an understandable mistake. Exactly like Zwillinger's. |
You are confusing that with just combining enhancements regularly like we've all done for years.
Two different things.

Or they could be re-evaluating like they did with base salvage storage (edit: you know when they changed it from 2,500 items to 30) in Issue 13. You can't honestly say that after 3 years changing one value in a database is that <censored> hard.
Re-evaluating prices doesn't meant you are going to immediately make a change based on a small and limited amount of feedback. Re-evaluating means you look at ALL of the information available, weigh the negatives along with the positives, and then make a decision. And the decision may even be "we don't have enough accurate information to make a change right now". And that's not even factoring in the part of the process that goes into deciding what the new price should be.
Sure, there were several posts with feedback on the Pirate costume cost, but there is also feedback that we the players can't see and that is how many of these were purchased at that price. Not all players post on the forums, Facebook or Twitter. And there is even more data that we can't see that PS can see that they are likely to use in their re-evaluation processes. |
Re-evaluating is Paragon Studios-speak for "we won't do anything about it."

No I'm not. I've always done that, and it's always been there. You can do that today. It was always helpful when you had a good SO drop. Bam, you could make room inside a power for the new SO, and get a new +1 in your DOs out of it.

My point stands: if I didn't know about that, it could be considered information that might not be on the top of every Paragon Studios employees to-do list to learn.

I demand this designer be publicly flogged, on Ustream, while Zwill goes on a tangent about Corduroy shorts no longer being in fashion.
Oh, and thanks again to the team over there for running the ustream.
I hope Posi and Zwill make it out to NY for the con!

What ZM said here. I'm sorry, but if that wasn't a poorly transmitted joke, I think that any blocking of power/patron/epic pool customization by PvP concerns pretty deeply ignorant.
Besides which, we know you can control the two independently.

I have a male Widow... errr HAD. Also, buttcapes are STILL gender-locked to females.

I'll agree that changing a single value in a database isn't hard if it doesn't affect any other items in the database.

Re-evaluating also doesn't mean that they aren't happy with how something is.
They may have re-evaluated the change to base storage and determined that it was where they wanted to keep it. They may have re-evaluated it and decided it should be changed but couldn't agree on what to change it to.
That doesn't mean that all of the players agree with the decisions they make when they re-evaluate things. But it also doesn't mean that it is code for "we won't do anything about it" as you put it.
Of course, we've had this discussion before about what they said and what was meant by what they said and what they really meant by what they said.
You still haven't admitted you were wrong about the Praetorians choices as they level having no effect on the choice they get to make at level 20 as to whether they go hero or villain.
I'm still done with you unless you start trying to twist my words again.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I'm the same - things like power sets are mostly a mystery to me - even MA/Regen

Whoah. Me and ZM agree on something.
ARGH!!! <slams head into desk>
Will someone please let Positron know that PvP isn't Magic:The Gathering where if you see someone playing a Yellow Deck (i.e., has Hasten on) then you change the strategies of which cards you pull and play. "Oh, no! I see that he has Hasten on! That changes... EVERYTHING!!!!" So, Posi, this "Really?!" goes out to you: You think that being able to see which powers are being used by a player foe has a significant effect on PvP? Really?! Really?! Even after Diminishing Returns, it's important to know how much recharge another foe has, even though there can be up to another 100% recharge working invisibly in the background from IO Set buffs? Really?! You think there's someone out there, who, if they could hide the fact that they have Hasten on, they would be overpowered in PvP... Really?! <heavy sigh> This tirade brought to you by how long it's taking to enable Power Pool customization and the inability to even say it's coming. |

In case you didn't know, exempting the hiding of GFX in PvP indicates that at least some Devs do indeed think that hiding GFX in PvP is somehow unbalancing. Which is pretty absurd considering:
1. No one can change their build or toons on the fly based on what powers they see their foes using;
2. The ability to re-color powers, even in PvP, means that you can't rely on color to identify powers anymore;
3. The current set-up of all powers using GFX creates a blinding and garish white-wash of overlapping GFX making the identification of powers nearly impossible; and,
4. There are some pretty powerful buffs from IO Sets (e.g., making someone with no Defensive primary or secondary powers soft capped) that have no GFX at all. That invisible advantage doesn't seem to bother the Devs in 'balancing PvP.'So, you pretty much gave the very reason why it should not be taken as a joke. Because, even *if* Positron meant it as a joke, in practice, he's stating their actual policy, which is inherently ridiculous.

I saw it was free, snagged it, and messaged Zwil that I wanted to turn the name over to them. No charge. Nothing.
But I can say that Zwil was beyond generous and showed his appreciation for me giving him the name
Thanks again Zwil! XD
