Patron Pools available Heroside
I concur. Heck, I'd even pay for the option of having them unlocked without needing to do the missions - in the same vein as purchasing access to capes and auras.
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be
-- The Fox and the Hound
I would love to have this happen. My suggestion in this vein, to keep it fair for vills, is to have there be a set of missions where your hero discoveres some information that allows them to attack a patron directly and in the course of the mission, take their power. Would love this to happen as soon as possible, really don't want to take my mermaid scrapper redside just to get leviathan powers. maybe also make things fair by letting heroes fight recluse solo, rather than forcing us to do the stf or rv to get a poke at him(or a very lucky safeguard mission)

Well Villains don't have to fight statesman to access APPs do they?
|
Leviathan Mastery for example... the "shortest" of the Patron power arcs, and yet, you fight EBs at the beginning AND the end.
Black Scorpion is the "easiest" of the arcs, and yet, fighting the EB in the power armor at the end is certainly no picnic.
So, who do heroes have to best to gain access to their ancillary powers?
I'll wait...
Yeah, no one.
Hell, you have to fight for a piece of fabric on your shoulders (or get them unlocked, I dig). You have to fight to sparkle or glow or smoulder (or get them unlocked, again, I understand).
I am not complaining about the unfairness... Villains get cool stuff all the time, far more useful as a matter of fact (Mortimer Kal versus Sutter for example), but granting double access...
Since we're talking about unfairness...
Why can't I get access to the Witch Hat Villain Side?
What do I have to do to get the Task Force Commander Pauldrons unlocked?
Yes I know those are Costume parts and not powers but they require specific Badges to unlock. So do the Patron Pools.

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.
|
AUGH! Why did you have to mention those damn pauldrons?! I'd just managed to forget about it, too
|
Because I've spent too much time over the years cataloging the various inequalities between sides.
I've also spent too much time in discussions to improve the inequalities between sides(particularly in regards to PPP) to have some entitled hero player with no knowledge of the history of PPP's complain about hoops.

Maybe the arc could even run in parallel with the redside arc, having you first fight an aspiring patronee (???), then the Patron themselves.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
Devs hate heroes?
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.

I bet they kept it like this to keep a reason to go red. The red side is less populated than the blue. Its a fact. Take away one of the few reason people have to go red and what will you leave them?
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
I'd be fine with Arcs being added that accomplish the same idea. But would like it if it were only 1 per pool, and that it doesn't happen until afteror at the same time that the Villain SF gaps are met. While Kal does cover those gaps Red Side needs more SFs added in. The Weekly Strike Targets make that blatantly clear.
Red Side also needs a way to unlock Witch Hat and Pauldrons
Fair is fair after all.
It's not a reason to go red, just switch red for a long as it takes to finish the arc and go back hero. Whether the OP's idea is good or not, this isn't an argument against it.
|
Just to switch over and back you were on the red side for a time period that you wouldn't have been if patrons were on blue side.
I know when I switch sides I start tip mission teams. And I have to do that for at least 4 days. That's 4 days of me populating the other side and running missions that I never would have if patrons were on the blue side.
Not to mention I rolled a brute and went red after praetoria just because of darkest night and my build plans. And some accolades are easier to get red side so that and the patrons pushed me to the red side.

I like that there's something different on both sides. And this is one of those differences.
Almost all the Patron Pools havea corresponding APP theme...
Soul can easily be replaced by Dark. Mu by Electric. Leviathan by Ice. And Mace...well you get an Arachnos Mace, why would you get access to that? What if you avoid all Arachnos missions (it is possible).
Patron Powers tend to have a unique power in them worth having (the shields alone are worth having imo, as they're concept friending no matter which you go with).
...
That all said, I'm suggested before...
Sidekick Power Pool, pick a Freedom Phalanx Member to sidekick to, and get a shiney permanent gold title that says "[Insert Freedom Phalanx Member's Name Here]'s Sidekick" as a reward.
BrandX Future Staff Fighter
The BrandX Collection
I know, it's not as easy or as accessible as the Katie Hammon Task Force, but it is there.
But Villains are still barred from those Pauldrons, so feel free to kvetch about that one...

I beg to differ because it is.

I wouldn't mind if they moved the Patron arcs and made a blueside equivalent where you beat the guy up and take his powers, that's fine. Just don't make me waste my time side-switching to do it.
That's you. That's not most people. When I'm side-switching JUST to get a PP, I don't run teams. I don't talk to people. I blast through tips as far as possible at -1/x0 using stealth if I have it. It's just an inconvenience - I add nothing to redside by being there for the 4 days it takes me to get my PP and leave.

I'm on the fence.
Currently, it cost me 4 Hero Merits effectively to get my Blaster a defence based shield that doesn't have intrusive graphics. (ie do 4 alignment shifts to get the Scorpion Shield and go back to hero).
While I was there, I picked up the Demonic accolade, since its much easier to get than the Eye of the Magus. I have gone the whole way round on one other hero just for this acoclade in fact.
It felt like a bit of a pain having to do this, but to be honest it gave me something different to do, and it wasn't hard to wrap this all up in a story in my head and quite enjoy it. I also helped a friend out with his Patron arc while I was at it., and got to see some other stuff. Different scenery, different villains, and I dont really need those Hero Merits anyway. I like having a varied to-do list on my characters, and this was more fun than just getting the power and then grinding the same hero tip missions for points I dont need.

See what I did there?
Villains and Rogues already get APPs now without having to jump through any hoops.
Please make the Patron Pools available blueside without having to swap all the way to villain, do the arc, then go all the way back to Hero. I understand there's a flavor to the Patron pools, but seriously. The convenience needs to go both ways. |
So Villains/Rogues still have to jump through hoops, they just don't have to side-switch to get through the first one.
Tyger (50), Mutation-Controller Mind/FF - oldest Mind/FF on Union
It's not 'convenient' for Villains at all, it's frustrating. For a long time they just had one pool only then the patrons were unlocked wholesale and there was still the ever-present disparity of having no ancillaries automatically. And in those fights? E-Bs aplenty that not everyone can handle solo and powers that only the mission holder gains access to.
So Villains/Rogues still have to jump through hoops, they just don't have to side-switch to get through the first one. |
Are you saying villains actually have to unlock APPs?
If so, that's rubbish as well. Let everyone have ALL the APP/PPPs available to them without having to do ridiculous acrobatics!
