Okay since Irene decided to knock out power to me last night I didn't get to see this episode....

Any chance BB re-airs it before this coming Sat. night?

Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

So many classic lines in one episode. Great stuff.

The thing with River would have had a bit more impact if it was dragged out a few more episodes. For me it felt a bit shoehorned... I did enjoy the bit where

SPOILERS

Tardis is once again referd to as female, sentient, and well..awesome. How I loved "The Doctor's Wife." It says a lot about how Important River is that the Tardis spoke to her.. yet has never really done so with the Doctor outside of the one episode. *Unless it was the one to say custard and fishsticks!*

I think that Amy had real parents and the Time Crack erased them from existence and so you have The Doctor finding young Amy somehow living by herself and everyone regarded that as normal. The fixed and rebooted universe brought them back.

don't know about that, but I decided it was worth $2 to buy it from amazon.com and watch. Still think it was worth it.

The answer is 42.

Might be a deliberate homage to the late Doug Adams.

All of which makes me think that they're somehow related to the Time Agency (and yes, likely the ones responsible for River's captivity). River and Jack are from the same century, after all, though I don't think it's ever made clear how far apart they are within that timeframe.
Yup, they may be the same people for whom Jack was a "rogue time agent" for. That episode was also written by the Moff.

The question is: "Who is a screenwriter for the new Tintin movie?"

My conjecture is that before the crack erased them they were adoptive parents she was left with as a baby. When they were erased, little Amy had no way of knowing she was adopted. And the fact that she was the daughter of her own daughter and a Time Lord is the actual paradox that was causing the universe to crack.

Just a wild theory. But it offers a slightly more concrete explanation for River being part Time Lord.

You mean, like it has since 1963?

Time Lords are Time Lords because their species evolved next to a time vortex.

River is Time Lord-ish because she was conceived of two human parents who themselves were very time-affected and at the time in which they were traveling through the time vortex on the Tardis. That's why River has the third Time-DNA strand also.

I guess it also means you have a recipe for creating a new Time Lord race: The Tardis Honeymoon Suite.

The data screen on the Tesseract showed this, when it scanned Mel:

Species: Time Lord

Well to be fair to you, for the longest time The Doctor kept showing up at oddly coincidental moments to fix things as if there were some guiding hand. And that guiding hand was ignored plot-wise for the longest time. Long time companions seemed like they were starting to catch on that there was something more than coincidental about where they kept landing, and then they were gone. New companions didn't have all the dots to connect.

So, it was left to the viewers to create a reason ("aha, it's Time herself that's directing where The Doctor goes!"), or, more probably, chalk it up to really bad 60s sci-fi writing that the writers didn't care why The Doctor kept turning up at all these lynch pin moments.

The new writers, having grown up on Doctor Who, are obviously now filling in the overall plot point of why and how The Doctor keeps showing up improbably at all these lynch pin moments. And being huge Doctor Who fanboi geeks themselves, have no problem making The Doctor himself a lynch pin of the universe and the husband of Time herself.

Nonsense, we all know that the question is What Is The Meaning Of Life and we all know the answer as well.....

The Great Answer.....

More seriously......great episode, like that it seems to be finally giving some answers for us, but hey, who trusts the Moff to be telling the truth?

Well that pretty much killed my Lorna theory. Shame, I was rather fond of it. I should've seen the twist in the episode coming. I was like, "really, they're just going to toss in a new companion just like that? What?"

And spoilers...

So Amy named her daughter Melody after her friend Melody who was also her daughter Melody, named after the friend who was her daughter, which is fine enough, I guess, but then they also had to go and give her that alias which they only knew because she introduced herself as it and oh look I've gone cross-eyed.

The real question is how did Rory and Amy produce a black timelord? I think Rory should be asking some questions...

They didn't. Mels said she regenerated as a little girl, and apparently her regeneration changed her races [personally I'd love to see something where regeneration resulted in a different gender too, but nevermind that]. So I believe it goes something like this: Melody is kidnapped as a baby, raised in creepy orphanage and brainwashed by the Silence (see: earlier in the season), is inside the Impossible Astronaut suit and is shot by Amy. She escapes the suit and regenerates into Mels, where she is placed near Amy and Rory to become their BFF. Then, obviously, she becomes River Song (did she really 'concentrate on a dress size' and guide how she would appear?) and kills the Doctor, grows a heart.
