In-Game In-Crowd Lingo...

I occasionally read my lists to my Lady-Love if I either felt they were especially funny (in which case they're guaranteed to bomb or be ignored on the forums) or I want a sounding board to see if they are even worth posting.

Inevitably, I realize just how many of these jokes people who don't play can't even begin to comprehend. The players of any given game have their own language in a manner of speaking. With the upcoming influx of new/free players, we need a way to determine who the vets are without having to peek at their badge info.

So, like any good sub-culture, we need to invent our own slang and colloquialisms. I'll start:

* Positron Chic: No matter what level your character; only your first costume slot has ever been used. Referencing Positron's having to wear nothing but his power suit for so many years.

* Fusionette Task Force: You are on a team where one or more players rush onwards to aggro ever increasing numbers of spawns and either dying or leading the back to you.

* Last Dance with Lady Jane: Quitting a Fusionette Task Force out of frustration.

* Doing the Manticore Mambo: Roleplaying reasons for why your character who REALLY IS a pure hero/villain would ever even think of pretending to be the opposite alignment. They weren't REALLY switching sides, they were only spying/infiltrating/invading... just like Manticore did!

* PUG Ugly: Any pick up group with a combination of Archetypes in it that initially makes you cringe. Does not necessarily mean it is a bad or poor-performance group; just an unusual mix.

* Fast Forward Freak: Any player who insists on stealthing/speeding every possible mission in any given Task or Strike Force. Has been known to quit the team if other players want to take it slow.

* Super Mexicano Break: Same thing as a bio-break pause in the game, but player is REALLY not feeling well so this one might take a while.

* Nemesis Judge: Any accusation that a costume contest was rigged.

* The Crimson Horde: Any gathering that lags the system due to an announced Red-Name appearance and the huge crowd of people who show up for it.

* The Spanish Inquisition: Any suprise appearance from a red-name in-game, because no one expects it.

* My Dead Parrot: Any issue that you stringently believe is broken in-game but which the Developers insist is working as intended.

* Channeling Steelclaw: That one guy on the team who WON'T SHUT UP with the jokes and one-liners despite the fact that no one has responded to them for the last six missions and actually have put them on global ignore. Can also refer to someone who dies frequently during battles because they were typing in jokes rather than paying attention to their health bar.

* Anti-Matter Chatter: Any statement or action where one player quits or threatens to quit a team because of another team member they don't like.

* Maxed Sliders: An inappropriate reference to the size of a woman's breasts. Can be used in or out of game. Example: Look at the maxed sliders on HER!

* Package Slider: Used primarily out of game; any email or product you receive that contains the words "natural male enhancment."

* Teen Angst: The stress or frustration felt by a Moderator when someone has violated the Teen rating on the forums.

* Tastes Like Enriche!: Dying face-down in sewer water.

There's a few to start you out. Anyone have any others we can add to the City of Heroes lexicon?

Eh, I'll wait. Eventually someone will create a list while they are waiting for the bus.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Filming Run: Any mission, TF, etc., that D_R needs to record for a video, expected to take three times as long as normal, while people wait as she oohs, ahhs, and films stuff.

No Respect for the Arts: While filming in open-game, someone blatantly does something D_R has asked people not to do (roam in and out of shot, use costume codes that break demofiles, etc)

Pocket D Cattle Call: D_R needs costumes for her newest vid, so everyone heads to Pocket D so she can judge.

Mission Intermission: When cutscenes play. Also known as 'Cinematic Bio Break.'

Breaking Into Film: Positioning your character so that when a cutscene starts, you're in it.

Rifftraxing: Spamming keybinds so your dialogue appears during cutscenes.

City of PowerPoint: When lag becomes so great that all you see are screenshots.

Super-shrub: No matter how tweeked out your super villain is, no matter he obliterates everything in sight on a Mayhem Mission... he will get stuck on the one damn tree standing and get gang-piled by every PPD and Longbow on the map and slaughtered before he can get un-stuck.

Pulling a Statesman: Griping to 7 other people with the same mindset as you that there aren't any teams for a particular TF but refusing to be the one that starts it.

Synapse Flush: Saying "BRB bio" and "Back" in the span of 20 seconds.

Party Packer: That guy who brags about how expensive his build is, only to disappoint when you look at his set bonuses. (I'm looking at you, Marketing Team. I'm looking at you angrily.)

Stuper Speed: Charging in to take the Alpha and crashing out of your game client.

Praetor Keyestroke: Adding that ****ing extra zero to your Black Market bid.

Imobdiots - Controller and Doms who open with an AOE imob before the tank goes in and Can't/Wont understand why they are dead so fast. (Elec fences and Plant control...Im look'n at you)

Prostit-tots - Boys/Girls who use hight slider and kilt to shorten both. They stand in Pocket D look'n like really naughty kids a la "hit me baby one more time"

CHUDS - Creepy-Huminanoids-Using-Dinky-Size....I'm a tank...look at me! Im so big! I can rule everything!....Don't make me go first! *Sobs Softly*

Sounds like the Monday night mothership raid marathon on Virtue. Worst framerate I ever had on an MMO. (Still a hoot.)

Ms. Liberty Toon: Character that has gone from level 1 to 50 entirely in Atlas Park. Is about as effective on a team as Ms. Liberty during a Rikti attack.

Grey Ghosting: Doing a mission you outlevelled long ago to get the badge or other reward at the end.

Merit Mayhem: The process of repeating Hero Merit missions to get the prized PvP enhancement.

Moron-icide: What you have committed if you do something incredibly stupid that results in your character's death.

I actually use that one a lot while driving. Any time I see someone run a red light, cut someone off, or other idiot-related driving offenses; I always claim they attempted Moron-icide.

Other games have called that Bloodporting. I think I've heard the term Death Port.

[INSERT AT NAME HERE]-lock: Committing to what your AT goes best on teams even when your team doesn't need you to do it (and may even slow it down in the process). Usually happens with higher level players who break off from the group, completely tank/mez a mob only to realize no one is with them and it'll be a looooong time before they can finish off the group.

Scrapperpult: Building a team only to realize it's all scrappers with the occasional blapper or dark/fire brute. Also known as: "There's no problem that can't be solved by throwing enough scrappers at it."

Ragespam: When a team feels things are not going well and chooses to flood team or league chat with taunts, insults and anger versus changing tactics or agreeing on the best course of action.

Soon(tm): "That's what she said!", aka, overusing a catchphrase and claiming it "never gets old!" when actually it does.

Can't wait for Issue 21!

These are great! Already have seen some commonly used in-game, especially "Tastes Like Enriche!", "Channeling Steelclaw", and "City of PowerPoint".

Here's my suggestion for a specific variant of the latter...

Pet Slog: When an overabundance of controller/MM/incarnate/temp pets generate lag by all firing at once and/or clog up an indoor instanced map.

I've always called that the Kamikaze Express.

The best part of this is that not only does no one expect it, it retains its connection to the color red.

I heard that called the Hollows Express, way back when.

Steamrolling - Not going out of your way to hunt down every little thing (unless it's a Defeat All), but if it's dumb enough to get in your way, it's toast.

Babysitter - the player who ends up with the escort/hostage/whatever.

Bank n Badge Snatch - Safeguards where you run in, beat the robbers, take just enough time to grab the badge for the zone, and bail.

Weapons Locker - creating another tray JUST for adding a ton of temp weapons powers.

Bah-loney = how many players feel about soloing.

Captain Epic Moment: Using Self Destruct on a mob when you're only a few xp from levelling up. The result is a dead mob and you rising from the ashes like phoenix because of the ding related wakie cast. (Extra epic points if it's the last mob of a defeat all mission)

I vote this be expanded into any accidental extraneous purchasing. Buying an extra/wrong enhancement, for example.

In case anyone else remembers this stuff...

Awesome Button: That one power that looks really cool and makes mobs melt so fast that you almost wish you could use it exclusively. Usually has an incredibly long recharge time (looking at you, Ion Judgement...).

Captain Dynamic: 1) That one guy who brags about how awesome his build is, and yet never seems to actually do anything, or 2) That one guy who thinks that xp/cool stuff should be handed to him for "rescuing a cat from a shrub (not a thorny one, mind you...)". A "Captain Dynamic" may be both of these simultaneously.
