I would guess that Rhode Island has some sort of law about contests like this (which means it's out of the devs' hands), although the irony is really pretty hilarious.

Got that both from attempting to apply from the NC master account screen, and from the "Upgrade Account" option for my CoH account.
Don't try to Upgrade Account. Click the User Serial Code link at the top of the far right-hand box. This is on the first page after logging in. It is in the same location on the page after clicking on your game account.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Please note that this promotion is limited to residents of the United States (excluding the State of Rhode Island, and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. territories, military installations and commonwealths), Canada (excluding Quebec), or the European Union.

Actually, thought the same thing when I saw this. I don't have a facebook page. But my game account now does. Facebook still knows less about me than they do about D.B. Cooper.

Yeah, Facebook has no way to verify your personal information. I have one account for friends and family (still with very limitied actual personal information) and another for the character I play across pretty much every game.

Still waiting for an answer on this already used code thing tho so maybe there's something to that...

I'm in Rhode Island and got a code. Though I didn't tell Facebook I'm in Rhode Island... :P

My understanding is that Rhode Island has a law requiring the registration of sweepstakes where the total prize value exceeds $500, and that registration comes with a fee of $150. The codes have a stated theoretical cumulative value of $5000 according to the Official Rules and Conditions page, which means if the offer was good in Rhode Island they would have to register the sweepstakes and pay a fee. If the value exceeded $5000 they would have to do the same thing in Florida and New York. I doubt its a coincidence the total value of the promotion is exactly $5000.

Ok, so after remembering the defining principle of Ingsoc, doublethink- I get
'you can't use the supplied serial code'...

I suspect i've found the problem. On the fb page, click the small american flag icon in the bottom right corner and try again. Seems to have done the trick

Got off work, went to get food opened my laptop, saw the page, went to facebook, got my code, now i have a new emote. I must just be special.

Quick technical note:

Apparently players in South America are unable to use either the US or EU codes to add the facepalm emote to the game.

Why should NCSoft ignore Facebook just because some of their players do?

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I do not have/use Facebook, nor will I create a fake/pretend account. Aside from moral reasons, I'm here for the superhero MMO, not Facebook games.

Devs, will this be given out in other ways at a later date? Say, in a way that ISN'T a contest of some kind, and isn't linked to anything OUTSIDE of the game?

Since my characters got the emote and not me (I've had that emote for years), my characters signed up for the Facebook account. They did so under an alias, but that apparently was consistent with their ethical standards as masked vigilantes who have saved the Earth and most of the dimensional plane of its existence numerous times.

I tried to explain to them that this might contravene Facebook's terms and conditions, but they just slapped their foreheads and walked away.

The promotions page won't load for me. Have been trying repeatedly. On different browsers. On my cell phone.

Oh well. I guess it'll be in the store?

I'm sorry, but this doesn't even make any sense. Are you belittling people who don't use FaceBook? I don't use it, because I have no interest in it. This would be akin to saying to you, perhaps, "Why should NCSoft ignore postage stamp collecting for special events, just because WHF doesn't like it?"

I'm not morally opposed to stamp collecting. I don't have a deep seated hate for stamp collectors, or people who don't collect stamps. I just don't care about stamp collecting.

In the same vein, I don't care about FaceBook. I was asking if there were going to be any giveaway alternatives.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

They shouldn't, but they shouldn't ignore some of their players either. At least previous code giveaways on Twitter and Facebook were open to everyone (Twitter and Facebook members did have a bit of an advantage, though, but that's fair).

Anyway, I remembered that I already had a Fakebook account, so Mr. ***** *. ***** was able to snag a code for me. Funny though, I thought I was the only one who had thought to do this.

Which is why I won't make a "not-me" account. I know a lot of people do it, but from what I understand it IS against the rules, yes?
