The Dead Pool

The only reason I said manticore is because A) he does not appear much in the promo's

B) because sister Psyche loseing control...Much like anothert Psionic super hero...who turns into a darn fire bird like...thingy (Not trying to break the rules)

Seriously..it could go either way, but considering SP has been around a long time, it might me more shattering, if one of the main cannon, out of pure rage becomes a pantheon beyond what we have.

And since all thing lead eventually to it...Love or loss there off...might be the catalyst to some amazing...and I mean amazing story.

Also to add...In most movies when there is a big wedding production...which occured. If one dies...you then get...DRAMA!!!

One will either go dakr B-man style...or one will Go Crazy Psychic style.

Either way...it's both head games and both are effective

For my money though, I'd like it to be Blue Steel. He's always seemed a rather pointless addition to the signature characters. Besides, he spends all day guarding the giant penny he stole from the Batcave, and him being a cop and all...it's just not right...
Not to mention Blue Steel beats up little kids. Which in turn goes all giant brain in a jar, just saying he kinda has it coming.

Seems obvious to me.

Step One: It's going to be Statesman. For a while in game Statesman will be replaced as a contact for his taskforce by Miss Liberty. Not Ms but her mom.

Step Two: For the next issue Statesman will be revealed to actually be alive but he will be wearing a new version of his costume. He will explain that he was not completely dead, just mostly dead (to blave). And that the incarnate energies being generated in Paragon gradually leeched into his tomb and restored him.

Step Three: There will be gathering storm type hints released. It will foreshadow a huge betrayal. Story lines will be released showcasing Statesman's gradually increasing lack of self control and growing proclivity towards solving problems with violence. Brawler will agree with Statesmans methods claiming that in these new climes a no nonsense attitude is necessary. Manticore will suspect that it's somebody masquerading as Statesman. Sister Psyche will read his mind and assure everybody that it really is Statesman but strangely changed.

Step Four: It will be revealed that the body of Statesman was actually stolen by Praetorians. All these months it has actually been Cole taking his place. The reason he has Statesman's memories is because Mother Mayhem and Neuron combined science and psychic powers to impress Statesman's engrams on Cole in order to allow him to play the part to perfection.

Step Five: The devs will read this post and realize I guessed their entire story arc for the next year. So at the last moment they will change it to Citadel dying (or being broken to pieces at any rate) and they will eliminate his task force and replace it with one for Blue Steel. And there will be much rejoicing as the "Groundhog Day" TF will no longer cause people to hum "I got you babe" as they struggle to stay awake while playing it.

I'm not sure what the Blue Steel TF will be but it will contain much gratuitous violence.

A-ha. I see what you're doing. You're trying to ferret out who's in the CB (by the fact they post here in this thread but don't send you Inf). I refuse to play your little game.

I wager one thousand Lv50 damage IOs that Statesprat bites it.

He's being used more than ever to market the game, and his helmet is being used a lot for icons/buttons in the market and reward screens

That's just to make his fall all the more dramatic!

You mean he is the 'faceplate' of the game. And, again, we don't know that it's even Statesman anymore! It might be...

IT.

We can no longer trust Statesman. As Wellathoth's little puppy, he's a tremendous liability - all that power, susceptible to control by an ultradimensional mad... thing. It cannot stand! Something must be done! Heroes! Villains! All must unite to save the world!

For Statesman IS the Coming Storm!

Unless it's really a Cookbook...

That was particularly effective with the Jim Carrie avatar on display when I read it.

As for Statesman being the face of the game, that hasn't prevented him from dying twice already. Superman is the "face" of DC in many ways and they managed to create a whole saga about killing him, and he's still around in the end.

I'd say that nobody is immune, but I'll also say that, given how many supporting characters die the True Death in the story of Paragon City, that I'll be very disappointed if a signature character of any sort dies a "comic book death" instead of a True Death.

It's you. Your character is deleted when you complete the arc.

And your alternate reality clone takes your place?

*Preps post to be removed* My guess is Ms. Liberty will be passing on and we will have a new hero greeting us in Atlas as a result. It fits with the whole moving forward theme.

She's not one of the surviving 8.

If we're the ones to hit whatever wannabe do-gooder that's going to die, I guess any of the Freedom Phalanx, with the exception of Positron and Synapse, could do. For me.
Oh, and if it counts, I'd put my vote in for Ms. Liberty (or Miss or whatever; the half-brained girl who's 'keeping' Excalibur).

No, I don't hate her. Not any more than any of the wannabe heroes that are put as the 'pinnacle' of heroism in this game.

Yes, blue side's signature characters are pretty meh. Their back stories aren't bad, but the characters themselves are nothing exceptional.
Not that red side is incredibly better, anyhow. They just have Scirocco, nothing much more really.

Slick, comic book writers reserve the right to have ANYONE "get better" a la Monty Python, even after DECADES of "being dead." What is even more aggravating is when it is another writer down the road that pulls the stunt. If it isn't some ridiculous explanation of how it only "appeared" that they died, it is a Deus Ex Machina miracle resurrection. Of course, in the comics, "miracles" happen so often that they should be called "regulars."

As I have noted elsewhere, Captain America's sidekick Bucky died during WWII, but has reappeared. Abin Sur died in the late '50s and has shown up again. They were dead as parrots, so we thought.

And while we are on the topic, Ghost Widow and Numina are dead and it does not slow them down a whit. Meh, it's a living.

CoH is a fantastic game, but again, when it comes to writing stories, the Devs can be fantastically ham-handed. Hey, they already killed just about everyone in FP in the comic using for the most part just ordinary Rikti and *poof!* just as quickly got them all better again. Dead, shmead.

Whoever dies, the likelihood is that it will only be "for a season." I shant point out any examples in-game of the dead not staying dead, but just postulate that whoever wins the Dead Pool will be someone not likely to remain dead for the duration.

My worst fear? They kill off Positron, Numina "ghostifies" him and they incorporally "go on patrol together" *snigger snigger* for the duration, *hee-hee*. What a revoltin' development.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

It will be one of the following:

Statesman
Manticore
Back Alley Brawler
Numina
Positron
Synapse
Sister Psyche
Citadel

As they are the Survivng Eight. So, anyone speculating Ms. Liberty or ANYONE else but the above eight is just wishing/hoping. Meanwhile, my guess is on BABs or Manti.

Don't be too sure. All I heard Matt say in yesterday's Ustream was "signature character". He didn't say anything about "Surviving Eight" or "Freedom Phalanx". "Signature Character" could mean Azuria or Fusionette or Lord Nemesis if Matt and Company felt they could create a dramatic story out of their death.

All that said, my inf is still on Manticore, though this business of Positron being sweet on Numina might be a way of signing her death warrant... er, her undeath warrant... or something.

Although, a new one has occurred to me. MISS Liberty (States' daughter, Ms Lib's mom) might be the one to buy it. Co-founder of Freedom Corps... and she may be the one helping 'keep the peace' b/w States and Ms Lib. If she goes, it could be enough to drive the permanent wedge between the two, Ms Lib goes off half-cocked with Longbow and does something astronomically stupid... can you imagine if Longbow as a whole went vigilante?

Just watched the video of the entire panel that GameSpot has up, and Posi specifically showed a picture of those eight characters and said that one of them would die.
