Most of the time I'm asking questions that the guest can answer. I don't ask about bases when Protean is on or about lore questions when Black Scorpion is on.

I also seem to have a great sense of timing and manage to get the question just as they are looking at the chat.

RE: Seers.

I always assumed the Seers weren't so much constantly reading everyone's thoughts as they were set to go off at certain thoughts (eg. violence or other types of "breaking the law")

Hence why Syndicate and possibly Magic Users can operate: THey don't show up as "blanks" it's just that when they do stuff the Seers don't go off.

It also helps if your questions are at least tangentially related to the subjectof the Q&A I've noticed.

Yep, forgot to say this earlier. I can't get to these chats so the write up is exceedingly helpful. Many thanks!

Thanks again for the write up VK!

FYI folks, my apologies for being relatively radio silent the last 5 days or so. I've been heads down in preparation for SDCC and still have a lot of things to accomplish.

Fingers crossed, but I should be coming to you all live from SDCC next Thursday and Friday (probably a test run on Wed to make sure everything is sanity safe). That's live, from the booth! (yaaaaaaay). And maybe, just maybe, I can get something up and running to be live from the Meet and Greet .

Thanks!

I read about ten times faster than people talk. Sitting through one of these "live chats" is excrutiatingly boring.

I don't know, recall this from Seer 0511:

Quote:
...I just love the way Enriche tastes, don't you?
...We have a meeting in thirty minutes, make sure to read the report on...
...Kevin, do these pants make me look fat?

<your character> Resistance. Syfotine Industries. Forced Entry. Innocents in danger. Gunfire.

...Don't roll your eyes at me...
Attention Network: This is Seer 0511. Syfotine Industries requires immediate PPD response. Resistance forces have occupied the building. Innocents are in danger. Gunfire has been reported.
...Mom, I don't want to log in to school today, can't I play Guardians of Praetoria online today with Jonny? We're almost level...
It sounds like they are selective about what they report, but read everything.

Well, yes, that helps too.

I realize that they are trying to promote a product with the ustream chats. So if you want them to answer your question, it is better to ask questions relating to the subject they are pushing that broadcast. While the players are important, the message they want to send is as important. So if you give a little (ask questions related to what the chat focus is), you'll end up getting more from them. Sometimes you'll end up getting more than they are initially wanting to give, despite the control that marketing (Black Pebble) has.

actually, I think Seer 0511 is supposed to be a special case, one that, literally, has trouble filtering things out properly all the time.

You know who also tried, and succeeded, to control/destroy magic on their world?
The Rikti.
And they're trying to do it again on Primal Earth, according to some villain arcs.

The Rikti, Praetoria and Cimerora all seem to be involved in the Coming Storm somehow.

Hmm.

"But in addition, I know a Seer who has a hard time filtering thoughts from voices."

Not subject matter, though.

Uhhh, when were we ever prevented from choosing a magic origin when GR came out?

Also magic PLAYER CHARACTERS aren't treated in any way. What is done to and between NPCs should really have no bearing on your rp.

Well, if the seers can't read your mind, then you are magic.

They say that magic CAN block the seers and bypass security. That indicates that doing the right things (the right spells, the right artifacts and so on) will allow that to happen. It's not automatic. Therefore, magic users in general would be "ignored" by the system until they started becoming powerful enough to know the things needed to block out seers or bypass their security systems.

To use a modern example, in the United States you can own a firearm without having to do anything super special to get it (background checks being the most common). However, if you want to get your hands on something particularly dangerous, say a minigun, you have to be specially licensed and vetted to even have a chance of buying one. If you get your hands on something extremely dangerous, say an anti-tank weapon, the government will roll over you like fresh pavement. Magic is the same in Pretoria, if you can use it in general, you have a firearm; if you get very good with it and grow powerful, they take notice and you end up with "paperwork" problems (or, you know, shipped off to who knows were for "training"); and if you get VERY powerful Cole's people try to turn you into a smear on the pavement if you're not properly working for him.

But if you're trying to create characters that are consistent with the game world, then knowing that a certain origin is frowned on by the powers that be is useful to know. Let's say I roll a Mutant origin character who is a successful Powers Division recruit. The people love him and he's popular with the Praetors. Then a year later, some information comes out that states that 'mutants are regarded with fear and suspicion in Praetoria'. Suddenly the story for the character and the game world are inconsistent. It's the equivalent of pulling the rug out from underneath you after a year of being compatible with the game world.

I find it irritating because we had a number of threads after GR came out asking 'where's all the magic in Praetoria?' Player speculation aside, there's been nothing in the story arcs or in the GR background information that would suggest that something was causing magic to work differently in Praetoria (aside from the 'Whispered Rumour' tip already mentioned). Clearly they had a plan for the magic side of that world to be introduced later in First Ward but nothing other than its absence from what was in GR indicated that anything was up with that origin. Just a hint or something from a contact that stated that magic was treated differently would have given us something to go on. One NPC having his magic power broken does not equate to 'Emperor Cole controls the magic in Praetoria'.

Ho hum.

ya know, i understand the complaint, but its a common one in mmos for a reason. all information is not given out to the players at one time to give the game a feeling of progression and to add new hooks for content. It can be difficult for rp'ers but its not unusual. your mutant example is something im wondering right now, actually, for one of my praetorian loyalist responsibility characters. his physical appearance is hideous but hes a straight up lawful good type character who initially supports the regime because he wants to do the right thing, as he has been taught since childhood, and hasnt yet learned the darker sides of the equation. now the npc's don't differentiate if you look like brad pitt or a hideous monster, so i'm forced to make an assumption that people are somewhat used to weird looking power division guys, and judge him foremost by the badge, and secondary by the scaly skin, massive claws and red glowing eyes. so while i dont rp myself, it is a question that i have to make a leap of faith on. and its one that might come up later in a future update, so the best i can do is be patient and not too attached to any one thing.

your comment sounds exactly like a comment a friend of mine made about another more medieval game years ago, and no game with a continuing story can cover all bases. lets go further, i have a praetorian that is an angel, what is the state of religion in praetoria? would he be seen as welcomed, or as an enemy o the seeming god-emporer? heck even in primal earth its not mentioned outside of the recently thrown under the bus shadowhunter mission. how do people react to kheldians? its the little details that rpers have to just make a best guess at. but really it is inevitable.
