Dev Chat Highlights, July 13: First Ward
I don't know, recall this from Seer 0511:
It sounds like they are selective about what they report, but read everything. Agreed. Drives me nuts. Another thanks to VK for the transcript. |
"Men strunt r strunt och snus r snus
om ock i gyllne dosor.
Och rosor i ett sprucket krus
r stndigt alltid rosor."
They say that magic CAN block the seers and bypass security. That indicates that doing the right things (the right spells, the right artifacts and so on) will allow that to happen. It's not automatic. Therefore, magic users in general would be "ignored" by the system until they started becoming powerful enough to know the things needed to block out seers or bypass their security systems.

Also, thank you for the transcript, OP. Mighty kind of you.

how do people react to kheldians? |
Personally, I imagine its a bit of an uphill battle. Vanguard's got all those "earth for humans" signs and whatnot, seems like there'd be a fairly strong undercurrent of "DEY TUK AR JERBS!"among the less open. Not to mention the whole mind control thing the nictus have going on...Not necessarily discriminated against openly, but there's a couple places where they'd get a "we don't serve your kind roun' here".
I just imagine that while there are plenty of people willing to go "Well those are the bad guys, not all of them are that way", theres enough nutjobs out there to make being kheldian a hassle depending on where you find them. Joe Redneck's about as much of a problem as you'd expect, but Brigadier General MaltaSympathizer likely has the void hunters on speed dial and is casually letting kheldian identities slip so he can "better protect his country from the alien menace."
Thats just my opinion of course...
I really enjoyed both the stream and the chat (I enjoy the banter I have with Beastyle and a few of the other folks there; and I think I'm becoming the unofficial filter for all things Australian as well), but I see the opportunity to talk to the Devs rather like people who work on a tv show or movie production; everyone has a unique talent to bring to the table, and the various influences and inspirations are very interesting.
Protean was obviously quite passionate about what he'd done, and I can see the Katrina influence in the style of First Ward; as a writer and someone who makes small films himself in-game, I found his answers incredibly interesting and they told me much more about what was coming up in the story than a lot of the images we were shown.
If I had half a chance, I'd love to do more lengthy discussions with them, rather like the podcast Off The Cape does.

ya know, i understand the complaint, but its a common one in mmos for a reason. all information is not given out to the players at one time to give the game a feeling of progression and to add new hooks for content. It can be difficult for rp'ers but its not unusual. your mutant example is something im wondering right now, actually, for one of my praetorian loyalist responsibility characters. his physical appearance is hideous but hes a straight up lawful good type character who initially supports the regime because he wants to do the right thing, as he has been taught since childhood, and hasnt yet learned the darker sides of the equation. now the npc's don't differentiate if you look like brad pitt or a hideous monster, so i'm forced to make an assumption that people are somewhat used to weird looking power division guys, and judge him foremost by the badge, and secondary by the scaly skin, massive claws and red glowing eyes. so while i dont rp myself, it is a question that i have to make a leap of faith on. and its one that might come up later in a future update, so the best i can do is be patient and not too attached to any one thing.
your comment sounds exactly like a comment a friend of mine made about another more medieval game years ago, and no game with a continuing story can cover all bases. lets go further, i have a praetorian that is an angel, what is the state of religion in praetoria? would he be seen as welcomed, or as an enemy o the seeming god-emporer? heck even in primal earth its not mentioned outside of the recently thrown under the bus shadowhunter mission. how do people react to kheldians? its the little details that rpers have to just make a best guess at. but really it is inevitable. |
Likely do to just not wanting to deal with the subject, but also because they mention Greek Mythology quite a bit, and the Greek Mythology didn't really have the angels we think of today.

I always got the feeling the game steered clear of any type of angel types period.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
without reading all responses here, I'm liking the look of this a lot!!!!
Also the question of magic and Cole's "stranglehold" on it is interesting.
Transmuter may have an interesting point to make on it... or perhaps not.

You're right, it is a minor complaint at best and I totally undertand that they can't cover ever base or reveal too much up front. I just wish there'd been more foreshadowing in GR.
I'd be grumbling less if I hadn't just run a magic character through Praetoria.
