I've been gone for a while (left after the 5th anniversary) but the thought of missions where I get to decide exactly what action to take, has tempted me back.

Then yesterday I was doing a mission, defeated a Nemesis Colonel and received a tip from his broken fob watch communicator. This lead me to one Nemesis base which in turn lead me to another where Nemesis were creating duplicates of prominent people including myself. I had a Foot-Stomp-Off against my evil doppleganger before rescuing FrostFire and mopping up the remainder.

I realise that these are trip tricks and little more than window dressing but (excuse my English) BLOODY HELL YES! More of those please!

ps: I think FrostFire was nerfed when he became a hero

I realize I was gone for nearly a year, but when did this happen? Between 2004 and 2006 I, and my posse of heroes, kicked his sorry backside over 600 times. Literally. I find it hard to believe so consistent a criminal would change. What is the Prime world coming to?

Run hero tip missions.

I do love my tips, I do. They may be small bites of story but they allow my heroes to be heroes and my villains to be villains. And my various collection of shades of grey in between be nice shades of grey in between.

Now if only the same philosophy could be applied to every area of the game.

I agree, the writing on the ones I've seen is usually head and shoulders above the older stuff. I'd really like to see them get a chance to re-do the others.

You can choose to do them or not. You can choose which version of them to do. And they may even give you more choices in the mission. You can allow them to change your alignment or not.

They can lead to temp powers and powerful Alignment Merits.

Lots of choices, and good rewards.

I am sure they will get round to it eventually.

Since I've been back I keep running into new features that were asked for in these forums, only to be told would never happen. I should start a list

It would be nice if Tips worked in the manner you described (which is quite a coincidence) but unfortunately the way they drop is completely arbitrary, you could have gotten that Tip off any 20+ enemy, be they Nemesis, Carnie, or even Tsoo or Devouring Earth.

Had my first "real" disappoint* with the game last night, in that I did a Resistance mission and ended up feeding innocents to a bunch of ghouls. I checked in the "Going Rogue" forum just to make sure I hadn't missed something but this story arc does not give you a choice beyond accept the mission or not.

Surely this story demands a morality choice? There is no way my character would have stood by and let these guys be murdered. It seems like a missed opportunity, if the only option and been to become a Loyalist I would have taken it. This could have been part of the story that shows that maybe both sides are as bad as each other? Anyway this is exactly the kind of mission outcome I thought the "decision-tech" was suppose to remove.

* Okay, I am also disappointed there's been no base loving in over two years but I wasn't really expecting any

If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Heads up. Nobody said that the Resistance were the good guys. In fact, you will find they are just as bad as the Power Loyalists. Really, the best option you got for being nice is the Responsible Loyalists, and that is interesting and sad at the same time. I think its closer to how a war between two sides would be fought than the red v blue that we currently have, excluding some of the high level red mish.

I kind of assumed that going in. After all, we are expected to get fed up with both sides and leave for Paragon of Mercy Isle. I just expected to be able to use the new technology to "do the right thing."

Really? My experience is the opposite. Tip missions for me are like missions pulled at random out of an AE arc. Somewhere, I know, there's a complete story written about Silent Blade or whats-her-name, the cold chick, but I never get to see more than chance glimpses of it. And like most AE arcs, they story is focused on some uninteresting second-stringer whom I could not care less about. So I've never made any effort to follow up on them.

I'm glad someone likes them, but to me they're what we get now when the devs can't manage to put together a real story arc.

Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

Yes, really. They're not intended as full-out story arcs, just little stories. The fact that they feel like there's more behind them is already a step-up from a radio/newspaper mission, plus you can't beat the rewards after doing ten of them.

Except there's a couple times where you can end up killing people, depending on which option you choose.

There are times that that happens. But mainly my advice would be to pay attention to the warnings given when you're given each contact. Crusaders tend to be nastier than Wardens, and you can take a few simple steps to avoid running for the meaner contacts.

a. welcome back, wondered where you got to.
B. yeah tips are amazing. the writing is great and i feel they really revitalized the game. if you have a 50 hero, do "one good spider" its a morality mish that drops after you fill your hero bar. it is the definition of a "big damn hero" moment.
C. oh yeah, the resistance..you know the old saying, one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist? well, praetoria is a 90's comics era gritty story, there are people with good intentions who do bad things, and people with bad intentions that incidentally help some common interpretations of the greater good. praetorians will get their hands dirty, that can be used to enrich a back-story with layers, but you wont do a full on pure good or bad guy. generally power loyalists are glory hogs, responsibility loyalists are good cops in a bad situation(usually) crusaders are terrorists and wardens are generally freedom fighters, but everyone gets dirty.

Apart from the devs and the meta-story, including the Incarnate content

The Resistance are allies of the heroes in their fight against Tyrant and the loyalists - although, like with rogue Longbow, if they overstep the line, we need to knock some sense into them

Agreed. Its an excellent mission for making you feel like a "real" comic book super hero.
I hope they expand the number of tip missions. They need a lot more, specifically ones with heroes being naughty and villains being good.

So a villain character can only come to Paragon if a Hero runs the "One Good Spider" mission, right?

While badge hunting over the weekend I discovered I needed one more flashback mission to get the next Ouroboros Badge. Looked through my list of missions not done and found "Bad People, Good Intentions". What a great mission! Rescuing people from a fire, excellent. That made me feel like a proper super hero. The rest of the mission was good as well, but its nice to see some new game mechanics once in a while.

More of those please Devs!

Yup, because enslaving young girls, committing extra-judicial executions, supporting a psychic vampire, and killing a former ally because he finally wants to get the truth out is SO nice.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
