What in the great googly moogly is up with Stateman's face?

There. I said it. What is up with it?

Since Freedom was announced, coh.com has a new front page. On it, you see Statesman fighting with a Warwork. WHY does Stateman's face look like that?

A lil background:

Hi! Im Pacur. I played from CoH beta to shortly after the release of CoV (played the beta there as well). Then life interfered and I was forced to quit. I came back a month ago, and have been loving it in here ever since. I was semi-infamous during my time for making rambling posts in the forums when I couldn't sleep. Maybe this is one of those, I dont know. You decide. Also, I like pie.

At least it's not another lazy eye illusion.

wow, when you look at it, Statesman does look pretty bad in that. I mean his movement doesn't feel dynamic at all, the reel back feels like it'll lead to a weak punch, and his exaggerated expression of effort and focus really makes it look over the top.
Without scrolling down, it looks like Statesman's just standing on the ground at an odd angle and is only going to punch the ACU with the force of it's own moment as it comes down, which doesn't feel very epic.
Now combine that with some game knowledge and it gets worse, because now you realize Statesman looks like he's putting a lot of effort and focus into a weak punch against a common minion than any significant threat.

He's probably pissed off at the studio for that lame-*** promotional shot.

I think States is going to be haunting my nightmares tonight.

Statesman's link to the Well (the source of his superpowers) grows weaker as players' links grow stronger?

Statesman also has "old man face" syndrome in that image. Too many shadows/lines. I know he's like a hundred years old, but he was supposedly age-stopped at the cusp of middle age; all other images of him make him look fairly unlined.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. I think he's just sad because his best mate Recluse is nowhere in the picture.

Oh, and you get bonus points for 'great googly moogly'. Haven't heard that expression in ages.

And why is he punching with his left hand? I mean, I'm sure the Incarnate of Zeus is allowed to be ambidextrous, but it just looks weird when you frame it like that, especially when you can't even see his right hand thanks to that... Blur thing.

Also, Pacur - why is there a space towards the end of your signature between the AAA AAs?

It looks a little like he's thinking, "Gawd, how much longer do I have to wear this flying rig for, it's really beginning to pinch in in places it shouldn't. Can we hurry it up and just take the shot now?"

Or he's just realised that he's about to get a metal knee to the face.

guys, guys, its an action shot. all kinds of odd appearances show in an action shot. the real problem is that the photographer selected one of the worst from his ...um, why are you staring at me?

(all kidding aside, why stage States with the 'bot? He'd rip through it like it was foil wrap. At least put Siege up against him)

Well, to be fair, I didn't say anything bad about left handed people OR lazyeyed people. I just want to know, why, with all the great source material available, including the banner up top where Statesman looks good, and all the old comics (CoX still owns the rights to those, I presume), statesman looks like....well, I don't know but, there's something subtly not right in that expression.

Maybe there's a pause for breath in there? I mean, that is a lot of As.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

Pretty much.

But back to the point: It's just...something weird about his face that disturbs me. Not that it's a detriment to the game, it just looks weird. Kinda if Captain Picard had hair.

Hi, Pacur! I'm GL. I will neither comment nor apologize for anything currently involving my namesake currently at the cinema.

I've been playing since we moved to Atlanta post-Katrina from New Orleans. About a month and a half later the wife joined up as well ("You want your own account? Seriously??") but is currently elsewhere in the 'Worlds' Most Popular MMO. I say goofy things, agree a lot, and sometimes I'm actually funny.

Welcome back. Pie are good.

Didn't mean to get all mushy there. Back to your original question...

Um...I'm going with "he's constipated".

One thing this image points out to me?

It's kind of funny how Recluse has become an afterthought.

If I were him, I would let the heroes of Paragon fight and bleed against the Preatorians and then sweep in when both sides are weakened. Also, at last count, there were three Statesmen and for him, that's two too many.

I'm kind of hoping that at the end of this Preatorian Incarnate Arc, we get exactly that. Lord Recluse showing up with maybe a few alt-recluses and a swarm of fully functional Arachnoids.

No, I think Lord Recluse would see all the Alternate Statesmans and how they're 'friendships' have gone and say "@#$% that..." and find a better plan.
I think the guy's experience with the Destined Ones given him a sense of when there's a good chance he'll get stabbed in the back.

They should have used the 3D rig of him, seen on the forum banner. And done a decent one for the ACU.

Also, why the hell is an ACU, a ranged unit, in melee? Why not a Victoria? Or a War Walker, that would have been cool.
