I see what you are saying here. That while being a VIP member, you are still going to have to 'purchase' new powersets. As Acranaville and others have stated, we have done that already with CoV and GR. Think about it this way. If you don't pay with freedom, you can still play. If you pay with freedom, you get 400 points a month... every month you are a VIP. You can still purchase them like many of us did with the preorder of GR and then the in game pak thru the store.

Think about this.. many of us paid RL cash for the booster paks, which anyone playing (and thus paying ) that did not buy them had no access to. So yes, it is fair. If Jo Blo has the money to get new fluff, then Jo Blo can purchase them. If Sam I Am does not have the extra cash for the fluff, then Sam I Am doesn't buy them and thus... no new fluff.

OR... you can save your month fee for a month and go premium.. use that sub fee to buy the new fluff and then resubscribe. Simple solution giving you the Freedom to choose. Hence City of Heroes FREEDOM! Seems equitable to me... but then again, I don't think the self entitlement issues of today hold any merit.

Just my 2 cents

The difficulty is, the extras you get with booster packs aren't game-changing in that they affect your ability to stay competitive with other players. I'm not a PvPer, but if I was, I would be absolutely horrified now; the thought that other - richer - players will have the ability to simply buy extra, potentially better powersets, which would give them a tactical advantage over them is appalling. As it stands, everyone who pays the subscription to CoH has a level playing field, same powersets, same selection of IOs, same combat attributes, etc...

There's a very good reason why you're not allowed to simply buy Influence with real-world money, and its to prevent people from simply buying their way into superiority in the game; I'm very, very concerned about the possibility of Freedom changing that for the worse.

Again, no, that's not true. Until COH and COV merged, you either had one or paid to get both. Until Freedom hits, only people who bought GR have the new powersets, the Incarnate system and the Alignment system for A-merits.

Even then, the players with the most time or access to resources (influence, people to run activities with, etc) have an advantage over those who don't. I hate to say it, but there's no thing as a fair fight. All the powersets being available do not provide equal footing.

As one player to another, I thank you for providing your feedback, though, and I really do hope the devs do address your concerns. Certainly, there's a lot of ways for them to act on this issue, so our collective feedback is very important for not only current players but the future ones. With as big a change as we'reseeing coming down the pipe, we absolutely need as many different viewpoints as possible, especially ones that disagree!

As for RMT jerks? Earning inf is a time-sink, and RMT was prohibited before Inventions. It cuts short in-game time sinks (time vs reward), but also generates stolen accounts and credit card fraud. Credit card companies can and do fine companies that regularly have disputed claims, fraud, etc, and its not cheap (can be in the millions over time).

Just so I'm clear, are these the current possibilities?

• New powersets are free with subscription for VIP usage, paid for Free and Premium

• New powersets are "free" with subscription stipend (400pp)

• New powersets are subsidized with subscription stipend (400pp+)

• New powersets also purchasable as a Veterans reward in addition to one of the above, similar to Controllers and Masterminds for Free/Premium players

Am I missing any others?

As a "VIP" customer maybe they should be allowed early access to them, similar as to what happened with dual pistols and demon summoning prior to GR? The examples given about "buying" powersets in relation to CoV and GR is moot. You were not just buying powersets, you were effectively buying a whole new game to add on to what you had that included new powersets for AT's or new AT's in CoV's case. Maybe even a discount on the cost of the new powersets could be implemented. That would also give another incentive for free/premium players to become VIP players as there would be a discount on powersets if they were VIP.
Just a thought.

With COV you were getting a stand-alone game (well, an "expanshalone"), but it also expanded COH a little too (bases). It was still a chunk of content that was unavailable if you didn't buy it for quite some time.

GR was not stand alone, though. I'm sure there've been arguments made that it should've been part of our subscriptions, too. Only folks who pre-bought it directly from NCSoft (expansion only, so no booster pack, no extra month) got access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning early, so arguably we list out on $15 worth of stuff to play with then early.

It GR was released piecemeal after Freedom, I'd say players would be able to choose what they wanted from it or buy it bundled. Certainly, Electric Control and Demon Summoning were two things I would not have bought if given the option... Bundles are good, but so is ala carte.

maybe it's too early to ask this question.

When we go f2p, and SG transfers go live, what kind of cost can we expect?

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Thanx for the clarification.
Was wondering what was the value of those 400 points.

So now I can buy individual things from boosters instead of buying the entire pack? That's pretty cool I guess.

FYI, Posi has already said that SG transfers will NOT go live with CoH Freedom, and will come sometime down the line.

(Obviously, I don't know the answer to the cost question.)

One cost will be much wailing of people whose SG moved servers and left them behind.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

FYI, just to clarify something there's been a little confusion over, I asked on today's Facebook Freedom Friday about the 400 PP cost for Signature Story Arcs. This was Beastyle's reply:

"@Chad Gulzow: Each Signature Story arc will be 400 Paragon Points--you will purchase them by arc. Once you've purchased an arc as a Premium player you will always have access to it, however if you want to access NEW arcs you would have to purchase those for 400 Paragon Points each."

And of course, the unspoken corollary: V.I.P. players get these as part of their subscription at no additional cost.

So, since we know that 400 Points = $5...

400-point stipend
400-point arc
...
Looks like VIP's are only paying ~$5 for continued access to the full game and the other $10 goes to the 'free' points and signature arcs. And that's only if you pay on a monthly plan...

I have a 14-month plan that renewed in March....I am HAPPY that I won't be charged again until May and am essentially only paying about $10 a month to begin with. People on a yearly+2months subscription are basically going to be playing the full core game for free and their 'subscription' goes towards store-goodies and/or equivalent value stuff.

Forgot the free server transfer, so they are actually paying you $5 to play. I'm happy with it, moar slots on protector for me.

According to Freedom Friday last week, he's already got the post written. I guess they're just waiting to publish it for some reason. Friggin' marketting.

Have they addressed how game codes will work after CoH: Freedom launches?

ie. I have an unopened CoH Collector's Edition DVD box set with an unused game code inside.

1) Will I still be able to use the code to upgrade my account &/or add time to it?
2) If I use the game code to upgrade my account, what do I get:

Premium access, 1200 Paragon Points (equal to 1 month sub), plus unlocking the goodies (power slide, cape, etc)?
30 days of VIP access plus the goodies?
30 days of VIP access, plus the goodies, and 400 Paragon Points at the end of the month?
I apologize in advance if this has already been answered >.<

Craft your inventions in AE!!

Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!

If you haven't applied the CoH Collector's Edition DVD (US version for NA accounts, EU version for EU accounts), then the answers should be:
1) Yes.
2a) No.
2b) Not quite.
2c) This would be accurate, provided you haven't used the code on that game account previously and have the right region (NA or EU).

Are there actually people who think like this?
